Judging by the way you dealt with a person with his problem (I read below), you are the master who can be trusted with vintage equipment for repairs. There are many masters, but few decent ones!!!

Good afternoon. I want to ask you a few questions. If you have the time and desire, I will be very grateful to you. I want to buy device Teac X-300r , but here are the problems. Rewind is weak. Auto reverse doesn't work at all. Fast forward is good and forward playback is fine. Do you think it's a belt or maybe the motor ?

@@VintageAudioFan. I want to thank you for your video and for your integrity. I bought the device I wrote about above. There really was dirt, dust and old grease. Cleaned everything, lubricated it, changed the belt and it's like new. Without your video, I would have gone to the service. Thank you Master!!!

How do you remove the little slide guides on below the left and right tape holders? I wish you’d included the disassembly as that’s the part I wanted to see most.

Great instruction-video, VAF! Thanks to you I've been able to put in a new capstan belt in my TEAC X300......All went smoothly, however: when I now press the play-button, the reel goes fastforward....??? Any suggestions? Thank you, and stay healthy!

You may need to adjust the pinch roller pressure. It will run higher speed if the pinch roller doesn't move up tight with right pressure against the tape when you press "play" button. Please check out my other videos for adjusting pinch roller information. Thanks.
@sampalermo9472
@sampalermo9472 3 месяца назад
@@VintageAudioFan That is exactly why the Pinch Roller solenoid is not taken lose as then if you do, you must take more time to calibrate the Pinch Roller pressure using either a fish scale or a digital bike scale which is what I use. There is a lot of stuff missing from this video that a good Technician would do including setting the speed with a speed tape. I don't see any thrust bearing check or oiling of the capstan bearing and I do not mean drops from the front that do no good.

Well done and helpful. I have an X300 that needs this. Where is the best place to get a capstan belt? Still avail from Tascam or is it look for 3rd party on eBay? [Updated] just found on eBay but if you have an opinion, I'm open and thanks.

I usually shop and purchase belts from eBay. So far, I don't have any problems. eBay provides customer's reviews on merchandise and vendors, also money back guaranty. My suggestion is clarify the specifications of belts (include model number, diameter, thickness....) prior to ordering. Ask vendors if you have questions. Check out review for the vendors and you should have no problems on your purchase.

Vintage Audio Fan thanks very much for the additional info. I will explore I believe one of the vendors that has the belt I may need had good feedback. I have not yet opened up this machine but going to this weekend and see if the belt is decayed or broken.

thank you for posting this video, it was well-done and informative. a question -- i noticed that when you removed the headlock to lift it to insert the new belt, you also removed the plunger from the solenoid (for additional clearance, i assume). how does one remove the plunger from the solenoid -- is it merely inserted into the solenoid, or is there a clip or other mechanism that one must remove first?

Great video! I have a Realistic tr-3000, which is almost identical. I did not play either, so I replaced the belt like in your video. The flywheel turns, but the reels do not turn in play mode. The spool, but they will not turn in play mode. The break mechanics work, but it seems like the motors are not activated. Do you have any clue what might cause this?
@VintageAudioFan
@VintageAudioFan 3 года назад
There are 3 motors in TR-3000. 1-capstan and 2-reel motors. I assume that you are talking about the right reel. I suggest you measure the voltage of reel motor lead wires while the deck is in the "play" mode. There are 2 scenarios: (1) If there the power is on but no voltage on the motor wires (right reel), then there is a problem in the power supply PCB. You should check the fuses on the PS PCB. (2) If there is voltage on the motor wires but the right reel is not turning (when the deck is in "play" mode), then you may have a bad motor.
@njalpaulsberg8091
@njalpaulsberg8091 3 года назад
@@VintageAudioFan Thanks a lot for the reply! You are correct in assuming that I am talking about the right reel. Since the fast forward function works, is it safe to assume that the reel motor works? I have checked the fuses on the ps pcb, and they all work. I am a newbie when it comes to measuring and repairing electronics, so I am not quite sure how to measure the voltage on the motor wires. There are four wires going from the ps pcb to the motor, red, white, black and white with a black stripe.
@VintageAudioFan
@VintageAudioFan 3 года назад
Does the reel turn when the deck is in the "Fast Rewind" mode? If the right reel turns on either "Fast Forward" or "Fast Rewind" modes, then the reel motor is good. The problem is in the control PCB or switches.
@njalpaulsberg8091
@njalpaulsberg8091 3 года назад
@@VintageAudioFan Yes, they turn in both fast forward and fast rewind modes! The play button activates the mechanisms that free the wheels from the "breaks", so the play button is fine, at least. Can you tell me which PCB the control PCB is?

I don't own neither a TR-3000 deck nor a service manual. So I won't be able to point it out for you. Maybe this step will helps if you can take some photos inside of your TR-3000 deck (all the PC boards). You can send the photos to my email address (listed in my RU-vid channel home page under "About") and I will help you to identify it.

Iso is a waste of time. All shops I worked at Teac and Sony used Denatured alcohol that is obtained at the hardware store- some people have used ammonia but I can't stand the smell but it might also work- I have used Denatured for 48 years so far and I still operate a shop in Chicago area.

Use AMSoil Signature series 0W30 which I have used for the last 4 years and you will never find a better oil and I have seen some remarkable results- this guy fails to lub the capstan bearing and motor so this video is rubbish- there is a lot more to do that what this guy shows and never take lose the Pinch Roller solenoid as that then requires a setting of that and he does not even check and set the speed. Amsoil is found at Automotive supply- it is synthetic.

Great work! I have the x300r and an x-3 /tr3000 or two (almost all the same). Do you think removing the headblock caused the pinch roller to become out of adjustment?
@VintageAudioFan
@VintageAudioFan 5 лет назад
No, I don't think the pinch roller assembly is affected by headblock, The pinch roller provide stability of tape playing speed by pressing tape against the capstan shaft. The action of pinch roller is control by a solenoid and arm assembly which may cause the losing pressure due to the aged built-in spring. The adjustment of pressure is shown in page 5 of service manual. However, it is a good practice to do the head and tape path alignment after belt replacement (because it may cause the headblock out of the position).

Any idea what the problem with no sound on one of the channels on my x3r? the tape path is clean.
@VintageAudioFan
@VintageAudioFan 5 лет назад
@@SDsailor7 It may be something wrong in the play amplifier if no sound on both forward and reverse play in same channel. But if no sound only occurs when play either forward or reverse direction, then your X-10 may have problem on the play head relay. Please check out my other videos regarding this issue. There are some other factors also may cause no sound for example: defective power supply or bad contact on source/monitor switch. You just need to diagnose all the possibilities one by one.

I removed them just for cleaning the rubber residue. Sometime they break into little pieces and hard to clean them with only removing the front panel.

@VintageAudioFan
@VintageAudioFan 4 года назад
The X-3 has three motors which include (2) reel motors and (1) capstan motor. It seems that the capstan motor may be defective because it drives the capstan shaft under the "PLAY" operation. I suggest that you can check the pin #32 on power supply circuit board (or #4 & #6 on Servo Motor Control PCB). If there is a 24V output reading but the motor not turning when playing tape, then the motor is defective and due for a replacement. I hope this info. helps.

Check the pushbutton switches. There are two sections to some of them, and the power-control section can fail due to an internal plastic part shattering inside the switch. @@VintageAudioFan

Hello dear, I have a problem with speed, it goes faster than normal. Do you know where I can set it from?
@VintageAudioFan
@VintageAudioFan 5 лет назад
The speed of capstan motor is control by Servo PCB. You can adjust the tape speed by changing trimmer resistor (mounted on Motor Servo PCB) setting according to the Section 2-8 Tape Speed (page 6) in X-3 Service Manual. Also you need to check the pinch roller pressure shown in Section 2-6 (page 5) which may affect the tape speed as well. Let me know if these steps work.

It comes off with a hex 2.5mm fasteners, three screws at the bottom which are Philips and a shaft with a retainer at the right of head block area. Tension rollers have to come off and knobs. There is a longer Philips screw at the left side of the head block area. How do I know this? I am a past Technician at Chicago Factory Service of Teac and have worked on hundreds of these machines since 1982. You want the right info ask me as this video leaves tons of stuff out and only an ignorant person will think it is correct. There is a small washer that can be at the bottom of the right shaft when you remove that shaft- it is conductive and should be collected. I was Lead Technician at CFS by the way.
@Nightrelic
@Nightrelic 25 дней назад
Mine was different than others are describing. I had to take the back off first (6 screws, 3 on top, 3 on bottom.)Then there are 6 screws inside that hold the front panel on. You need to remove knobs and unscrew the other three parts in the way of removing it. Behind the head cover was another screw and a metal ring fastener. Then three screws on the bottom. I had to remove the feet to get to two of those. It was much more complicated than this video made it appear.

Can't see the belt going on in the video, arms?
@sampalermo9472
@sampalermo9472 25 дней назад
Yes that is kind of missing but logic or the parts diagram of the manual will show you it goes on the motor pulley at the left and then under and around the flywheel. It is necessary to oil the Capstan bearing and top motor bearing if you want to do the right job and even take the flywheel off to get the capstan shaft out of the bearing to oil with AMSoil 0W30 signature series synthetic oil. Many things you are suppose to do are left out. The lifters section needs cleaning and new grease as well and I apply Lubriplate 105 which in all my years has never hardened up- I use it still today.

Could be a number of things to check as well as motor run cap. These are AC reel motors so they do have motor phase advance caps- the reel switches in these decks which are the larger Alp switches to the rear are known to open and some short- maybe the fast wind one is shorting- you need to check with a meter- I have had two in my shop recently both with opposite effect.
