Matt im a newbie to the R2R , I just picked up a x1000 , but its stuck on fast forward and the operational buttons will not stop it. any helpful assistance or videos? also When i search for parts for the x-1000 i come across the x1000R, any suggestions to locate parts beside ebay? what other X series can interchange internal parts to rollers parts?
First thing I look at is the heads. If there worn I walk. second is like you said the capstan motor. That is the deal breaker for me. Everything else cosmetics and mechanical can be fixed most time for reasonable money. Yes heads can be lapped, but most of the x series decks there soft metal heads. Also the cost involved is beyond the cost of the deck unless your a tech, or has all the equipment necessary to align the deck back to specs. I have the gauntlet of equipment necessary, to do the work, I own several decks myself all with heads that are not worn. I did pay a premium for them to be honest. These things are bringing crazy prices.🤬
Thanks for the info Big Matt, I'm from Argentina and about to get my first R2R here, a X700r which appears to be in good playing condition but going next month to try. Less than 700 bucks, should I be careful? Greetings from South America, great work, would love to purchase some machine serviced by your hands
