Okay, my husband and I did this. It’s a BIG job, took us days, and we had to modify the design a bit e.g., we added stiff support with a wooden plate through the bust line so the breasts wouldn’t collapse. Taping bra cups inside to support the breasts was useless. The bra cups are nowhere near strong enough to prevent collapse, plus the duct tape won’t stick to the inside of the form (which, as you’ll recall, is lined with t-shirt and plastic wrap). Now that the form is complete, I’m happy and I have something functional. Just don’t go into this lightly. Oh, and be prepared to cringe when you see a 3D version of yourself! LOL I just about died when I saw the pot belly. Sigh. PS We didn't use the kitty litter box. Hubby found a lovely lampstand from a thrift store to use instead. Works like a charm and looks nice, too.
4adiva yes I’m a bit concerned when I make my own made to measure bodice , about my belly 😏I might get some initiative to do something a hour it , even though I’ve tried everything and nothing has worked for me ! But I’m never!! Giving up 👍🙏
The very best tutorial on making a dress form. We followed your instructions and it took us about 3 1/2 hours. We paused your video step by step, and we love the results!
I plan on using your technique to make a foam dress form. After creating the form with the tape, I'll line it all with plastic wrap then spray with a release agent. Seal it up with the pole inside, invert it and then fill with a low expanding foam mixture. Remove the tape form covering the set foam. Set it up on the pole, trim and then cover with a dress form cover. My daughter has agreed to be my "muse". I'm so excited to get started.
Cat Chick-just a thought. Prior to making the form. Think about covering the Muse, with the really thin painters plastic drop cloth. Smoothing it as smooth as you can, with masking tape. It would be near impossible to get a smooth surface, trying to line it, once it’s made. Also if your planning on using the expandable foam, make sure it’s the rigid type. Keep in mind, you should make several relief holes, otherwise if you overfill, you won’t blow out all your hard work. Good luck and great idea !
Absolute best tutorial for this. Made one years ago and it was….ok….. THIS one fixes all the defects of the first one and is so professional!! Thank you!!!
Very Informative! Thank You! I love The Beginning on Doing And Cutting out the Neck Part, and when I saw the other’s before I had seen yours I was thinking of a way to avoid having to be in duct tape that long with it being around my neck, and you answered my question, without me even having to give it a second thought! Thanks a lot💯
Much better than other dress form tutorials. Thanks so much for being so thorough. Not sure when I'll have time to tackle this huge project, but really looking forward to making it a priority! Thanks!
Thank you so much! I need a dress form but can't afford a custom one. And had seen a blog about doing this but it was not clear. Now I can make one myself. Q? Could you make a fabric cover for it so we can see the process?
This is brilliant!!! What a simple and easy way to make a dress form for my very NOT standard body. Thank you so much. I feel like I hit the jackpot and you totally made my day. Well, its almost Friday, and its safe to say you made my week!!
Helloo.. From Panama....Its the best of the best in your tutorial....I saw too manys tutoriales...I am going to do....it was dream...for made my own dress.. You are the best..
Thank you, thank you!!! My daughter lives far away from me, and I want to see for her. This is perfect! She’s 6’ tall, long torso, big busted, short- waisted, and narrow hips. This is an answer to my prayers. AND we can make one for me while we’re at it. 😃
My daughter helped me, and I agree with 4adiva that the result is shocking :) I'm thinking of putting my dress form next to the tv, so when I get the urge for a bowl of ice cream I see why I really shouldn't. However, so far it has taken a good two hours to do the taping and I am in process on the rest of it. I, too, have been wondering about the solidity of the whole thing. Fiberfill seems awfully squishy - small animal litter (close to saw dust) would be solid, but awfully heavy. However, it is so much better than nothing at all - or spending hundreds of dollars or euros on a professional form that still had different measurements than I do.
If you can access lots of fabric scraps and can take the time to cut them into smaller scraps and bits, it would be sturdier than fibre filler while not being too heavy. Takes a lot of time though!
This is wonderful! Thanks so much! Couple of questions when yo have time. Where are you taping the pole inside the form? How do you figure out how much poly fill you need?
This is great. Thank you for the videos. You mentioned that you can make it into a fabric dress form. Is there a separate video for the next stage? Many thanks
I am not a professional, but I've seen a tutorial where someone has done exactly what you suggested and she said it worked, so...good luck, I hope you find your way to make your dress form!
@@daniallecrotts9753 yes actually I did this for a dress form, and mannequin head for a wig I was making. The dress form was messy but successful. So I took a breather and collected my thoughts and then made a wig head after
Amazing idea but I would need someone to add the tape all around my body don’t have anyone is a great idea thank you for teaching us how to make a mannequin I would have to buy one
Can I just use the tape dress form to make a non-tape version? After getting the shape and lining it, I can just cut pieces off and trace them onto a paper or something?
We are not sure what you are trying to do. The dress form is three dimensional, and it would be difficult to transfer it directly to a two dimensional piece of paper.
I don't get why people don't use the ducktape form to create a cloth version of the form.you should know patterning well enough to make it flat and custom yourself and then use those pieces to make a proper form you can pin, etc.
So it can be hung from a closet rod, chain or cord suspended from the ceiling, or a bracket mounted to the wall (such as a bracket for hanging potted plants). This is an alternative to having a pole mount. Additional benefit is the hanger also gives support inside the form across the shoulder area. Hope this helps.
Блин, я ржу и плачу😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 Всё криво-косо. Наша русская девка давно придумала способ такой же, но почти. Вместо синтепона пену монтажную, и все дела!!!!!!
