Bre is 200% correct that if you’re job has an appreciation week, you don’t get paid enough. It was Medical Laboratory Professional’s Week last week and I definitely don’t get paid enough to deal with the things I do. At least this year I didn’t get a half used hand sanitizer like I did last year.
22:10 To quote Mrs. Rogers, “This reminds me of a story” about the senior class that each gave the Principal a marble as they accepted their diplomas… as the final student handed over their marble, they said “These should replace all the marbles you lost this year.”
As a custodian at a high school, I know where all the pencils go! They are snapped in half and scattered around the classrooms 🤦♀️ Any pencil I find that isn't broken, I put on the teachers desk. I used to put them back on the desk that I'd found them under, but they'd always be right back on the floor the next day, as if the first kid that sat in that desk just slipped it straight onto the ground.
I absolutely love my kids teachers. My son’s teacher treats him like her own kids. We ran into her at the movies one day and I hear “my boy!!” Look over and she’s running to him. She advocates hard for her kids and has given me so much support and advice. I wish he could stay with her until graduation. My daughter’s teacher is equally amazing! My daughter has struggled a lot in reading and math this year, and her teacher has given me so many resources to help her plus did one on one time with her. They both deserve so much more than any gift I get them!
Here is my most memorable teacher appreciation day - we were told that the PTO was going to have lunch for us in appreciation of all we do. Great! The next day we all get an email about the lunch along with a list of things that we were supposed to bring. Yep -- we were providing ourselves a potluck.
Don't forget to show some love to the office staff. Secretary's day has past. Us teachers couldn't survive without secretaries, janitors, Paras, hall monitors... It takes a bunch of people to make what we do look easy.
Lol I'm a custodian at my previous school we got nothing for custodian appreciation day. Not a shout out, not even a thank you. I wasn't expecting much but to have gotten nothing was a little disheartening.
@@LookAtMeLinda What are teachers doing that seems so difficult to you? Are these folks building a 200 story skyscraper 2000 feet into the air? Are they building a five mile long bridge 200 feet in the air? Are they organizing a mission to Mars?
I'm a school psychologist, and we get an awareness week, not even appreciation 🤣 But that said, I'm also a mom, and I have BIG time appreciation for teachers from both sides! I rarely remember to do Christmas gifts for my kids' teachers (4 kids + adhd 😆), but I love putting together nice, cute, and practical teacher gifts for Teacher Appreciation Week! I've been loving listening to this podcast the last few weeks. Thanks for the work you do in the classroom and here on your platforms! 💖
We with autism went from an awareness month to an acceptance month. Still not necessarily appreciated though. But imagine having to fight just to be accepted. (You might be able to empathize cuz of the ableism ADHD diagnoses bring). I just am saying I wonder what the hierarchy/system is. Awareness to acceptance or appreciation? Probably circumstantial. My high school mental health workers got me through high school. I appreciate you and your job.
I am a high school Algebra teacher in Texas. Teacher Appreciation Week always falls the exact same week as state testing for high school. So I don't even get to really see my kids for a big portion of the week.
I remember I gave my history teachers in 11th grade (there were 2 teachers in the class because of the amount of students) at the end of the class period I gave them pocket watches with a chain to clip to clothing. And they loved it, after they put the watches on they gave me a gift bag that had a poem book because they said I was their favorite student. And there was a not on it saying "never let the spark in your eyes fade, because you will go far." I've never forgotten that and whenever I feel down I think about that day and know I have to keep going. Thank you to every teacher that not only cares but shows it. Students remember the amazing work you do and it takes just one moment to changes a child's life. 💞💖💫
I've been binging this chanel for the past two days and absolutely love it. I just want to say, as a university student and someone who went through public school and spent some time homeschooled, I sooooo appreciate all of yalls teaching styles! The way you approach the kids and the parents normalizes treating teachers as human beings( sad that it needs to be normalized), and understanding the strain you guys face! Keep up the amazing work!!
I'm currently a nursing student in university. I have a small resin business and I'm making all of my tutorial and prac teachers a name badge. I love those teachers so much. They do so much for us.
@15:40 I just saw this on a local news page just the other day! The news had said that a school in Pennsylvania had sent out fabric roses to a handful of families who attended the school. Of course, the school did not know that these roses turned into thongs. The school had to send out an apology letter to these families about the roses.
my kids can be pretty difficult. the teachers and councilor helped me so much with my kids. they really went above and beyond for us and made me feel like they had my back. took my phone calls when i needed help, helping them, lol . i dont have much money to get teacher presents all the time, but for christmas one year i got all our teachers and councilors wine and cookies. they sure as hell earned it and i wish i could do more.
OMG that's so true. I'm a nurse, former CNA, who has primarily worked in nursing homes. All three are underpaid and under appreciated. We do Nurse's Week, CNA week, and Nursing Home week. No one of us are paid what we are worth! Just watching you guys I have seen so many similarities between our professions. Love you guys! #NursesforTeachers
My class (7th) literally has a locker where we hoard pencils we find on the floor called the pencil locker and we secretly put pencils back in our teachers pencil boxes! And the teachers are always so confused lol❤️
Today at school me and my friends had just finished our lunch so we walked out of the cafeteria and a staff member asked us to pick up 2 pieces of trash for teacher and staff appreciation week, and when I say me and my friends RAN to grab as much trash as we could it became a whole trash olympics between us. The staff member that asked us to pick up the trash in the first place was happily surprised at how quickly we did that.
There is only one teacher I have ever really felt cared for me. She was wonderful! She sadly passed away when I was 13 or 14 from stomach cancer. My family and I think about her often. Whenever we see frogs. She loved frogs. F.R.O.G.S = Forever Rely On God. So to remind her of that she had frogs everywhere in her classroom!
The best teacher appreciation gift (besides homemade stuff from my students) was a massage. You know those mall masseurs?? It was fantastic. Another time we were told we having a PD but when we got there admin canceled it and took us bowling.
I’m not a teacher, but I’ve always advocated for educators and nurses. I don’t understand why we pay people who sing and dance on a stage or throw a ball millions of dollars while the people who are in charge of educating our future leaders, and the people who care for us when we are at our sickest barely anything. There wouldn’t be such a shortage if these people were treated the way they deserve to be treated.
America has 3.2 million public schoolteachers on its payroll. American universities continue to churn out 250,000 newly minted teachers every year like clockwork. Rest assured, there is no teacher shortage, just propaganda from the teachers unions, the education lobby in Washington, and the radical left wing of the Democrat Party.
This year represents the behavior of our principal. Our admin provided bagels ONE morning. The rest of the week, TEACHER groups provided "appreciation". Our district gave every teacher a $500 stipend paid on Friday.
I am a nurse and I honestly couldn’t be a teacher. But I do remember my first dead body. The woman had been internally bleeding through out the night and I was morning shift and found her passed away. But every time I tried to clean her mouth or her nose or roll her over this like black liquid tar just kept coming out of everywhere.
Parents and teachers are the most influential people in the lives of children. They both need to be appreciated for their contributions to raising the future citizens of our nation and our world. Together parents and teachers can make our kids stronger, smarter, kinder, more creative, better equipped for the future they will inherit. Talk to your kid’s teachers. Share your goals for your child, and be willing to listen to what their teachers can tell you about how they are doing and how to help them. It is a team effort, after all. Let’s make it better, not harder.
I accidentally knocked my English teacher’s tape dispenser and it broke (it was like clay or something). I felt so bad, I bought her an otter tape dispenser. It held the tape with its paws and cut the tape with its feet.
I had a teacher who used to be a nurse and she consistently told kids to go into nursing because you can quickly get through it and make an okay amount of money
Every year at my middle school the computer teachers have the kids make little thank you cards and print them for appreciation week. The kids get to pick the teacher they write to. I love them so much! I always hang them on the wall by my desk. It's the best feeling!
I'm not a nurse but am a physical therapist that specializes in wound care and 100% relate to your stories. Especially @HonestTeacherVibes stories about the outrageous parent demands you get. The extent to which people expect me to put more time, effort and dedication into healing their wound because they can't possibly be expected to do anything for themselves.
my graduating class had 80 kids total. we were the smallest class in 50 years (most average at around 100). and we have a middle/highschool, elementary (2-6 grade), and early education (kindergarten etc)
I'm an early care teacher. Our center is 4 weeks to 12 years. We love the one the kids would be a part of to make, I have a drawer of cards kids made me over the year. Gift cards were the best monetary gifts because it helped pay the bills. We're required to have education and get paid even less then k12 teachers. And if bills are taken are of then it was always a nice thing to splurge on myself or for something I really wanted for the class.
@@andruc2758 Yes I am. I'm sorry I was a little too preoccupied with the very recent death of my dog to bother proofing this non-professional communication to your preference. I forgot teachers must always be teaching, we can't at all be human and make mistakes. Second, my dyslexic self, has three college degrees and a certification, as well as an additional three state certificates. I am also currently going for a fourth degree at a top university in my state that's highly rated in the nation as well. All without accommodations. So yes, I think I have more then proven I can construct a sentence or two over the years. Hey, since you wanted the educator, how about we talk about how in poor taste it is to try and shame a person instead of having a discussion about the topic at hand, and how it really is a crutch for poor discussion and argumentative skills? In the future you can find the topic of a discussion a few ways: watching the content in the video or reading the remark made. I'll give you a free pass on this one: the video was about what teachers would really appreciate for teacher appreciation week. My comment continuing that thread and expanding the conversation on what they breifly touched on: what teachers could need and how underpaid they are. Next time if your struggling to comprehend the topic, I'd suggest looking for context clues or asking questions about the possible topics at hand. In this instance the topic never once was about sentence structure or spelling.
Idea for video for those of us who are in school right now for teaching. An episode about how it felt when you started your student teaching and best way to make sure we can pass on the first time. Love listening. I listen when I’m in the car on way to work.
When they brought up nurses I was thinking, this is my job. At least we get paid a living wage. What is so funny is I waffled between education and nursing. Also Lauren the story you told about your husband has happened to me soooo many times😂😂😂. Also when someone acts like they know better than us, we'll say they have a nursing degree from Google University😒😒
My dance teacher used to teach third grade...She only taught for a year before opening the dance studio but she has told stories, one kid sharpened a pencil to a point and stabbed another kid in the back of the hand, a group of kids held down a different kid and tried to put rocks in his eye and one kid got cancer and almost got the port ripped out of his back. If I'm not mistaken
I was in nursing for 30 years. We had a staff meeting when I was in home care in which an admin was “complementing” something we did. She said we got gold stars. I asked for gold coins. There are many professionals that don’t get paid nearly enough. I would also like to remind some of the viewers teachers don’t get paid for 12 months. They get paid for 180 days that gets paid over 12 months.
What you're really saying is teachers work 180 days and get paid year round, which is true, since teachers are state employees. .Teachers are paid every two weeks year round. To the best of my knowledge no other job in the known universe allows adults to have the same exact vacation schedule as a six year old. That's a sweetheart deal in anyone's book.
He's just super busy right now he was saying on Instagram. He's in a musical right now so he probably isn't able to catch a flight out to film episodes at the moment
Speaking on appreciation weeks I now from college there was one for nurses, and doctors. Then in work I learned there is an appreciation week for vet technicians and veterinarians. Like wow makes you wonder why society thought their wouldn't be a shortage at one point.
I had a colleague who, whenever we received a trinket or a treat or whenever he was acknowledged in a meeting for taking on an extra duty, advising a student group, or planning an activity for the kids or the faculty and staff, would respond with the fakest grin and the words, "Don't thank me, pay me." He had a point, but it got to be kind of annoying because he was saying it to the wrong people. The principal had no say over which extra-curricular activities were compensated and which weren't, and if the district didn't approve a stipend for the jobs he usually volunteered to do, he knew going in that he wouldn't be paid. I volunteered to be prom coordinator four years in a row. It was a whole lot of work, easily as much as a second, full-time job in the last few weeks before prom, and it was unpaid. But I worked out a deal with my principal that was worth more to me than money. I get very anxious around large groups of people with no directed activity, I am not a morning person, I didn't want to have to stay after school, and because my planning period ran right into my lunch, I cherished my two-hour break in the middle of the day. Of course, I worked during my planning, but it was so nice to have that long block of time with no children making demands for my attention. I could really focus and get things done. So, in exchange for coordinating the prom every year (which included all the fund raising; all the purchasing; all the ticket sales; booking the catering, music and florist; verifying that the children were eligible to attend prom; verifying with principals in other districts that their dates were eligible to attend our prom; supervising the prom committee through the process of polling the junior class to select a theme and then selecting napkins, food, and party favors; supervising the decorating; and recruiting chaperones), I never had morning duty, lunch duty, hall duty, after-school duty, any other supervisory or monitoring-type daily duties, or detention; and I was never asked to cover another teacher's class during my planning period. A few of colleagues found out about this deal, and would you believe they had the nerve to make snide comments about my being the principal's 'favorite' and getting 'special treatment?' Funnily enough, none of them ever agreed to swap my prom for their daily duty. People, when your colleagues step up, be appreciative, especially if they're doing a job you don't want to get stuck with. When your colleagues or admin express their appreciation for something you do, be gracious, especially if they have no control over whether or not you get paid for it. If you think you deserve more compensation for something you're doing, talk to the people who control the purse strings rather than shaming people who have no say over how much you get paid.
Public Health Professional here waving at the teachers and nurses. My field has been under appreciated/under funded/ not recognized for so long. Lol It definitely sucks.
Not teacher appreciation week, but when I had kids whispering, I'd often hush them by saying, "I hear voices, and they're not the ones in my head." One of my girls found a black soda can koozie (the insulated cover you put on a soda can to keep it cool) with a bright yellow rectangle like a caution sign that said in black text, "WARNING: I hear voices and they don't like you!" I thought it was hilarious, and we agreed that the only thing that could improve it would be the addition of the word 'either' because it would leave people wondering whether I didn't like them or the voice thought people didn't like them, and so they disliked them back. Then I got a student with schizoaffective disorder, and he thought we had that in common. Imaging my shame in explaining to him that it was just a joke; and I was sorry, but he hadn't finally met a teacher who had some idea of what he was dealing with. Fortunately for me, he was a sweet boy and took no offense, though I did put the koozie away. He once asked me if it was cheating to take answers from his voices when he was stuck on a test. We talked it over and agreed that since the voices were in his head, they were part of his brain, and he knew what they knew. So, no it wasn't cheating. He also could do group work by himself, and in math class he sometimes did. One of his voices was much better at math than anyone else in the class, and it would become impatient, rude, and ugly. It would get so distracting that he couldn't focus and work with the group. So, his teacher would give him extra time and let him work in a group with his voices, as long as completed the group agreement specifying which of the several people in his head was responsible for each part of the project, just as if they were physical children in the classroom. We had a fantastic, compassionate staff who met the children where they were so that even this young man was able to be successful, making As and Bs in all of his classes.
My daughter and I always do teacher appreciation , back when I was volunteer coordinator it was for elementary and we would make all kinds of cute little things for them
Mrs. rogers because you mention the dentist. I will say I’m a dental assistant it happens a lot more than you think people question my dentist diagnosis a lot. Esp if they have periodontal disease because they aren’t getting a free cleaning anymore it’s no longer preventative. They will fight saying i don’t have that I just want what insurance covers and can get really frustrating.
I saw someone in another comment thread saying he is starring in of Seussical the Musical as Cat in the Hat, so he's busy- I don't know more than them so I hope that's true lol! I miss him too.
I remember one year my elementary school went on strike for higher wages and postponed the start of the school year by like almost a month. I still think they don't get paid enough. As for the box of letters... What if a student gave you a letter with a box of donuts or homemade cookies? I remember almost every year in elementary school and middle school my mom and I would make all my teachers a lil gift baggie of assorted desserts that may have been just crushed nilla wafers soaked in booze, and then made into balls and rolled around in different sugars. Ofc my mom would give the teachers their gifts after school.
Every time the kids run around the classroom, I just tell them that only wicked people run when no one's chasing them. They usually stop at that point.
I'm an elementary music teacher and usually if something breaks it's a rhythm stick. I don't get mad cause they are probably 30 years old and I have over 200 of them. I just tell them to throw it away because it's been hit thousands of times and is bound to break eventually!
My favorite gift was a sliced fruit basket. I am highly allergic to a lot of food and candies. My students knew I love watermelon, grapes and strawberries! It was the sweetest thing
My old principal would give us coupons on teacher appreciation with a hour leave pass, free chocolate bar, free lesson plans week, free jeans day, etc.
For my first year teaching as a sub, for teacher appreciation week I got nothing from the district or school. Other contracted teachers got some shitty ass plastic coffee mug. A student of mine however did get me a gift card and wrote me a small letter which I treasure. Gotta love the appreciation shown by the district…
When I was in kindergarten I think it was the end of the year might’ve been Teacher appreciation week, but me and my mom got all of my teachers those like ceramic people that are supposed to like represent you so like my main teacher I got her one of someone reading a book and then my art teacher I got her of someone with a paintbrush my music teacher it was someone singing. Btw ❤️ the podcast
As a sub and a teachers kid, I knew what I was doing. This athlete got mad about me being there and mad that usually this class was so easy... He yelled at me, with his coach right behind me. Dude, that coach came out from behind me like a mama bear. Lol
20:10 there is a girl in my class that any time she doesnt already have a pencil out, she will grab a new pencil, or like whenever we’re at special classes she will keep the pencils they give us to use. 2 months ago i asked her and she said she had over 80 but didnt remember the exact number. .. girl wtf- imma ask her tmrw how many she got
