Fighting another student is wrong. The bond is excessive. The student still needs to be held accountable for her behavior. The student,s mother is attempting to deflect responsability and is attempting to not teach her daughter to take responsability for her actions is not teaching her that the choices we make in life depending on what they are can have negetive or positive consequences.

As a teacher I learned to never get involved or try to break up fights between students. I know teachers who have been seriously injured and traumatized. Teachers need to call for backup and try to keep the other kids safe. Administration is trained in the deescalation tactics and any possible restraints they can perform. Schools need to train staff to not get involved. I didn’t know until about 5 years into teaching, and it was only after hearing the stories of many teachers, which are similar to this one. That said, consequences are important. The parent and student are responsible. It should never escalate to violence.

@@JMARTIN1947 I would not get involved physically, no. Edited to say, I would immediately call for help. Administration and school security can break up fights better than I can. If it was life or death for the student being attacked, or they were unconscious or unable to defend themselves at all, then I would try to protect them. I would risk injury, being sued, or losing my license. It’s so hard to say exactly what I would do. High school students can be grown men. I can’t fight a grown man and win. I’m better at teaching punnett squares.

A few nights in jail and 5k in bond.... Bond out for 10% .....mother had to fork out $500 at least.....or pay 5k bail. When each of these incidents start cutting into the hair and nails budget it will stop......

It’s sickening seeing all the comments just pointing out the color of ones skin. This is NOT about race! This is about a mother who failed her child(ren). Just based off of the little that her mother had to say it is APPARENT that her mother condones this kind of behavior and doesn’t dish out any sort of correct discipline. I’ve seen this happen amongst all races. Color of the skin doesn’t matter. Moralistic values is what it all comes down to and obviously her mother is an air headed idiot that will do something wrong and then boohoo cry when she gets corrected for her faults. Not a good way to be when you are mothering our next generation.

The high school daughter in question is rather large. She looks like an adult, not a child. While she may think like a child mentally, I hope they charge her as an adult because she put her hands on a teacher/ staff member. Stop allowing kids to be violent or make threats towards their teachers!

She needs to learn that it’s not appropriate to put her hands on ANY goddang body. Becoming a functional, successful adult in society means learning how to control one’s emotions and behavior. There are consequences for acting a fool.
