If at all possible, EVERY TEACHER should be like this!! Students will actually be engaged when the teacher gravitates to their level and does something they don’t expect. I’m not saying teachers should act like this every single day, but do something once in a while that will motivate students to be engaged!

It's amazing seeing the progression of student engagement. They clearly have low expectations from the moment the presenter walks into the room. Even his clumsy bump into the chair does little to stir them. He confirms their expectations with the dull start of the lecture. Ten minutes later, when he states the obvious that the lesson is going nowhere, a spark is lit. This is his first real connection with class. Then he moves away from the podium--another spark--and from then on the magic takes over. See the student at front, second from right. With the first drum sound he raises one eyebrow. With the second drum sound he raises both eyebrows. Then along with everyone he raises an arm to hear more, and when he sees all hands gone up around he raises both arms. Just amazing, seeing how the engagement of the whole class builds up step-by-step until it quickly cascades. Only the rare teacher/presenter will have the talent of this performer, but I think the key is the principle that you need to connect with the audience in whatever way you can.

Watching the students face going from being so board to amazed was priceless. LOL
