🌷 TOTALLY GET THIS!!! Whenever these days happen, I try so hard to do some cosmic kids yoga, breathing exercises, invite students up to be a leader for something we are doing or a helper, and praise ANY positives!!! I also was thinking about how these little ones did not “finish” preschool. A year ago, many of them just got to stay at home. So many of those school social and emotional skills are missing. I try to remind myself this when I can 🤪. You’re amazing!

Oh I totally need to do more yoga!!!! 🌷We have only done it like twice this year and then some of the meditating breaths on go noodle! I need to remember to do that more. Thank you for this!!!! Also yes to the social skills. It stinks! :(

Hi, not a teacher. But I've wanted to be a teacher my whole life, then I decided to go to law school LOL, I've contemplated going about and getting my certification. But when it comes to why I watch teacher videos. I just like you guys. I love the organization, the clothes, and the lesson planning, and I feel that I can kind of live vicariously through y'all. I may not be a teacher but seeing you guys teach and doing something you love and knowing that teachers care so much its just a breath of fresh air.

First things first. Thank you for all that you're doing and have been doing for the past year and also thank your husband for me as well for his service in the military. Teaching has always been a type of job that requires a special type of person. No one ever becomes a teacher for the money, so you simply love what you do. But if teaching wasn't already a difficult job this past year it really became a challenge for every teacher out there. No matter where you teach i'm sure the pandemic has effected the way you teach in so many ways. Trying to teach virtually has to be much hared than having the student sitting right in front of you. As I mentioned earlier teaching doesn't pay nearly as well as it should which is really very sad. So i'm sure that you look for bargains and sales etc to save money where possible. Having been an optician and store manger as well for a good number of years i'm very well aware of the how expensive glasses can be even with good health insurance. So several years before I retired one of my girls, when I say that I mean one of my young glasses wearing opticians was replacing a lost screw in a patients glasses and while she was doing so she noticed how nice the frame looked and she complemented the patient on her choice of glasses. The patient told her that she got them on line and she wrote down the name of the site as well as several other sites that she had used as well. As soon as the patient left my optician headed straight on line and began checking out the glasses on the various sites. It wasn't long before all of the other girls, the other opticians and optical assistants were looking over her shoulder at the glasses too. Within a a few days nearly all of them, including one of them that didn't even need glasses, were placing orders for glasses and prescription sunglasses. As their glasses started arriving I was able to get a very good look at all of their glasses and I was very impressed with how good the glasses looked as well as the quality of the glasses. I was so impressed that I wrote down the names of the 3 sites I liked the best. Those sites are Zeelool, Payne Glasses and Zenni Optical. Since retiring I have placed orders for well over 100 pairs of glasses from these sites for my own family as well as many many friends. Since all 3 sites are priced about the same I will use Zenni as an example. They all have a really nice selection of glasses for as little as $6.95 and that includes single vision lenses in whatever prescription your eyes need. They have hundreds more for under $13.00 as well. If you were to want prescription sunglasses you can have them tinted as sunglasses for an additional $5.00. Shipping is only $5.00. If you don't do anything else you should at least go on line to the sites and check out what's available to you. Also check out the virtual "try-on" option on the Zenni site. It's a great way to see how different styles and shapes would look on you. By the way, your current glasses are really very nice looking on you. I am a huge fan of semi-rimless frames and i'm thinking that your glasses could be a Ray-Ban Clubmaster or something very similar to that frame.

I like that you use one read aloud each week. I think my first graders would benefit from that as well. Would you be willing to do a video about your reading block and the things you do specifically with a read aloud. Reading instruction is a big struggle at my school. People do so many different things! I participate in a lot of online PD and it seems like using one read aloud for the whole week is best. Thanks for any help you can give! Love ya Mayleen! I’m not a teacher, I’m a nursing student. But I love watching teaching videos! I wanted to be a teacher when I was a kid, so even though I chose nursing, the idea of teaching is still really cool to me. So I guess in a way I can vicariously live through you guys lol.

I am sooooo sorry you didn’t have a good week friend.... However, I was right with you - my kids were acting up as well (not listening, dumping toys into other toy bins, not cleaning up, I couldn’t even get through our morning meeting without someone on top of someone else or going to hide because they didn’t like what was happening)........ Watching your video of how hard and passionate you are to help your little kindergartners learn and have fun inspires me sooooo very much!!! Thank you.... I love watching you plan, organize your classroom, take care of you, etc...... I hope you have a blessed week this week (I also love your book and craft ideas).... ☺️

I totally understand what you went through. This was my week too!!! My kids were off task, chatting a lot, tattling, arguing, etc. It was crazy. Then on my way home Thursday I watched 4-5 cars get in an accident behind me. One of the cars came very close to hitting my car, in fact I don't know how he didn't (thank you God!). I immediately had a panic attack. When I went into work Friday I was so thankful to have my crazy off task, talkative class. I had them doing more hands-on and movement learning. It helped. Let's hope and pray our week is better :)

Sometimes we as teachers just need that reminder that we are going through these things together!!! It isn't some unrelated incident or because we are bad teachers or they are bad students. We just have those weeks! 😂 so glad you're safe. I hope you have an awesome week!

Something I've done with high schools (so you'll need to adapt it) is give the kids a BINGO grid (no need to have BINGO at the top though) and in each of the square it has something like "someone who has a pet dog" etc. and they have go around and find someone that fits in each of the squares. An adaption you could make is have images instead (so an image of a person with a dog) and then have the students each have a stamp and they go around find people who fit the different categories.

Have you considered taking away the flexible seats completely, and bringing back in desks?and with the small groups maybe taking it ALL the way back to basics and focusing on the behavior and not even focusing on content. that's what ive decided to do with my class. i don't blame them for "acting out" they weren't in school for a year. my kids didn't finish first grade. I think that we are asking a lot of them.

For the going around to others, when I was in primary school we did a thing where it was a grid with different things that could pertain to a person, and you would fill in a name that matched it. Eg. Born in a different state Is good at swimming Is good at art Has a pet bird Has a twin The rules were that every square had to be a different person, and it allows everyone to interact with members of the class they otherwise wouldn't. Wish you luck with your kids this year!

I teach high school so not sure how this would work for little ones, but I've done that kind of quick partner work for completing worksheets. For example, I've told the kids find a partner and answer question one together, time them and then ask them to find a new partner for each question. I can't do it this year bc of social distancing and hybrid learning but it worked well in the past and helped them not be stuck in their seats for so long.

Also, I have used 'loop cards' with my pupils before, especially in Maths. Might be something to look for on Twinkl or TpT etc. :)

Yes I was unsure about how to go about it because I want people to be able to look back at the video and see all the things but people don't always check the description or comments 😂 I'm glad to hear the planning parts are at least a little helpful! I don't have any other "lesson plans" unless it's from a bundle I'm doing (for example, our writing has "lesson plans" because it's a curriculum I got from tpt and I will print those pages and highlight them if I want to remember specific wording!) but I don't do any kind of in-depth plans past what you see :) and thank you! I've never heard of that - I'll look into it!

I never comment on things but here I am. :P As I stated in my note, I'm a clinical psychology student about to graduate to become a therapist. I currently intern at a psychiatric residential treatment facility for teenage girls. I watch a lot of teaching videos because they are just interesting and fun. I like seeing other people plan things out and organize which kind of led me here. :) I facilitate and co-facilitate some group therapy sessions for the girls which definitely has some teaching elements to it, just focused on mental health topics and safety instead of "traditional" subjects!

Like I said I'm not sure what our lunch schedule fully looks like but i think that's when our coverage would be...I'm not sure. My school doesn't have a lunch schedule/teacher coverage schedule yet..right now we teach half days so we don't need it!

Hi! I go by my standards! So for the retell read-alouds you see, the focus is definitely on understanding the main idea, retelling the story, asking and answering questions about key details, identifying characters, setting, and major events.......those types of standards! :) When I use read alouds for science or writing, I pull those standards. What makes you say we are so advanced? 😂 I have some students who still don't know all their letters and I have some who still can't count to ten. I am constantly giving support!

@@MrsCallsCampers I'm an ESL teacher and last year supported 1st grade, and then this year my 1st grade teacher team looped up to 2nd and so I'm working with them plus Kinder this year. And just all the CVCE word work (I think was in this video)..or writing with sentence starters or retelling stories. I don't know- it just seemed "advanced" to me in a good way. Granted, I have been with the lowest ELs in our Kindergarten grade this year so maybe that's what I'm just seeing and I mostly work with them in math. I don't know- part of me would like to be a K-2 teacher, and I could imagine 1st and 2nd graders succeeding at the projects and centers you were explaining but I can't imagine at least my Kinders doing very well with the reading and writing centers.

@@elliefisher2698 thanks for explaining! I would probably think the same thing if I wasn't experiencing this. When I was student teaching, I got to spend some time with a kinder teacher who just had everything on LOCK. Her kids ran the room. They were working independently and pushing themselves and I saw it and thought "no. freaking. way." So that was a goal I had for myself this year was to try to replicate that management and give my kids those opportunities. It's worked really well. I do have quite a few ELs who are more where you are describing and with them, I still try to encourage that dependence just with tasks that are easier than ones I'm giving others! Their sentences are more letters and and I often give them drawing tasks and have them label with first letters when they can! My kids have really surprised me with what they can do! However they are not all masters at sentence writing or cvce words - please know that we are just working HARD on these and I'm giving support :)
