As a follow up to teaching lateral flexion in the halter, and putting the snaffle on for the first time, I show you here how soft a horse can be flexing laterally in the snaffle for the first time.

At the moment I am trying to teach my horse to accept the bit, i practice natural horsemanship, and her lateral flexion is excellent. I really found this video very informative, Thank you!!!!

If a horse does not ride without a bit he is not marketable. JMHO. I love the transition presented here--makes sense and seems so obvious!

Thanks for the info. Teach before you ask is terrific advice! By the way, that's one beautiful horse.

How far around should he bend? CA said touch your boot if your in the saddle. Not sure

Yes you would want them to touch your foot but when you're first starting out just like teaching them to back up every little effort is good and should be rewarded.

Do you ride your horses with just the halter first, and then introduce the bit this way?

Yes.

I see that you train all your horses so well that they do it without a bit, what is made better by using a bit? Horses always look distracted and uncomfortable with bits and I would think that makes their attention divided. Thanks *:D

Are you saying my horses look distracted in a bit ? I havent noticed that

Not yours in particular... all horses is more what I meant. I'm new at this and watching horses chew on a piece of metal still freaks me out so I wanted to know if a bit could be left out all together or if not, what does it make better. I love your techniques and share your videos with everyone. Grateful for all you do to enlighten us.

Darlene DeMayo Horse’s chewing on the bit means that they are accepting and thinking about it, it mostly isn’t their teeth grinding on the snaffle as the bit goes in a gap in between their teeth. I can’t say I have ever seen a horse look more distracted in a bit that in a bit less bridle or halter.

She's off leak on right there but I guess that's because her son is within reason why I know he is she keeps looking opposite direction of you because that's where he is she's making sure he's there because if he wasn't she be winning her ass off right now

No offense but she's always hated a bit ibar she was using a bit so I always wrote her with a hackamore she quit acting up but that horse is always hated a bit even a snaffle and she definitely doesn't need a bit now she's 23

Once again no offense but my horses were never guided with pulling left or right eye neck rained road with one hand so you're trying to teach a horse that's been neck rained all of their lives to respond to somebody pull on left or right only and that's going to cause problems 4 people because they're going to act up and they're going to have to get another trainer but the trainer can do it doesn't mean they're going to be able to do it you trying to take two horses that were meant for me because I made them what I wanted and make them somebody else's and they're too old for that now
