This is Sidney, my girlfriend for 5 years now, but she doesn't really like to workout, she’s healthy, looks great, but working out... nah
So I wanted to challenge her, motivate her and give her something to start working out, so we're going to teach her a pullup. And oh boi there were some problems...
She's 178cm, 5ft 10, weighs 69.9kg so around 70kg

if you don't have bands and want to do your first pull up, get a chair and lower yourself down slowly from the bar over and over, eventually you'll get your 1st pull up, it worked for me

Yup, also pausing on the points where you struggle the most and doing scapula pulls really helps too. I found that chin ups were a little easier, so when I eventually got my first chin up I used that to build strength and endurance while doing negatives and australians in the pronated pullup grip.

Pullups seem to be so easy for guys. Seeing your girlfriend succeed really inspired me, a mom of 4, to get into training Pullups. I couldn't do a single one,. Now I can do 5 reps and started with Calisthenics. It's never too late :)

I trained almost half a year twice a week for a pull up as a woman! But I'm also heavy for my size (165cm, 72kg). But after the first one I could do 4 pretty quickly!

Good job! Progress depends a lot on how you're training. Slow negatives helped me most, got to a pull up in 2 months. 174cm, 73kg, also only training twice a week as I need at least 3 days to recover properly if I want to see any gains in performance.

​ @MoonKitten It might actually be easier when you're smaller because you'll have shorter arms (something about physics and lever principles). 76kg is not a lightweight though, but if you keep working out your whole body while not overeating, you will eventually lose some fat and build some muscles, shifting your body composition towards more functionality to pulling yourself up. Remember, the more you weigh, the more muscles you will need to gain to pull yourself over the bar. Most of us females started with zero arm strength. start slow, hanging on the bar, scapula shrugs to get a feeling for where they are and how to engage them, and controlled jump-negatives. I am now 2 years into training pull ups while currently weighing 78kg when at the gym. Pull ups and chin ups are easy peasy now. But it takes lots of commitment, hard work and listen to your body's need for rest periods (mine is 3-5 days after a pull up workout to failure).

I love it so much that you helped her get her first pull up, it's so challenging for women to get there even if they are in a decent shape. I know it was for me. I've seen that other video with the girls that get their first pull up in 60 days and this, and I couldn't relate more. Man it's hard to get that first one, and often times guys don't believe it as it comes naturally for most of them. Talk about life being unfair 🙄

Awesome! I have a goal to do one pull up myself but it's a hard training without a proper bar, so I switched my goal to learning a handstand as that requires no equipment. I would love a video where you follow Sydney or Sten towards getting to their first handstand. Keep up the nice videos!

It freaked me out how hard a pull up can be. I didn't find them any bother when I was a swimmer and climber; they're an exercise I found after doing these activities for years. But starting from stratch after being unfit - I thought I had developed a real problem with my muscles as I struggled to do a single pull up!

my sister got into rock climbing and when we went over to our cousin's house for Christmas (they have a pull up bar), she did a pull up, easy! so shocked 😲 ig rock climbing really helps with the pulling strength..I can't do a pull up though ;-;

I can’t do a pull up but I want to be able to it’s my next goal and I’m working for it but it’s really discouraging when my parents compare me to my 10 year old cousins that are boys(I’m 16 female). They also live in a different area and they were given more opportunities(in the sense that have more gyms near by, more opportunities for sports etc.) it is so discouraging when my parents compare me to them and ignore how hard I’m working.(I have been working on pull ups for about a month and I’m so close, this is just on my mind because my cousins were in town recently)

same as a kid I loved climbing bars and did pull ups with 0 effort, could even climb up to muscle up position effortlessly, now that I'm older and haven't been active for many years I can barely do 1 bad form pullup, was expecting to still be able to do at least a couple reps but apparenly not

I love seeing you challenges with women because they are so REALISTIC. There are so many bogus videos online. When I started getting into fitness, I expected dramatic results like the ones many guys have in just a few months. I was doing everything and more and still barely losing any weight. My progress was slow, but it was steady. In general, I think it takes women a lot more time to have dramatic results, and that's okay-- I just wish the Internet was as honest about it as your videos are. So THANK YOU for making me feel so much better about my own journey and normalizing healthy progress.

I used to swim train every day and thanks to it could do 2 or 3 pull-ups in a row (I'm a woman btw). Now I've stopped for a while and I've lost that strength and ability to do them, hoping to regain it though, your videos really motivate me!

It’s really great to see this. A fact is that women can’t do pull ups its not easy for us we have to rtrain a lot bc our body compared to mens is not the same. So as a woman who wants to learn and do a pull up this video helped a lot

I couldn’t do a full pull-up, and barely got do a jumping one at the beginning of this year (or a chip up). I made a couple new years’ goals and started doing pull ups and push ups every other day. After a week or 2 I could get 3 full chin-ups, and I kept training until finally I could do the pull-up. Also, my brother had always been stronger then me (3 years older), but now I was stronger then him in overall calisthenics. I tried out a gym membership, and got addicted to working out. 6 months later, I can do 12 clean pull ups with good form, and have the strength to do a muscle up (the original goal). Browney helped inspire through this entire process, and I am planning on buying the body weight master. Never give up! (Love the CrossFit pull ups 😂)

Thanks a lot for the video. As a 175cm tall woman, I myself have been working on my pullups on and off. It is motivational to see that someone with a similar stature to mine was able to do it. Hopefully someday I will to :)

When I did my first pull up I was bursting with happiness. Though I was not able to do it for the next week again. It's been 3 inconsistent years and now I am at 14 pull-ups but still, doing the first pull-up remains the best experience.

I’ve seen you react and review different home workouts and other workout challenges. The hardest thing Americans as kids had to deal with was the fitness gram passer test and the push up/sit up counter videos. This made us aware of how we were progressing in physical education as 7 year olds. I’d love to see you guys try this out yourselves!

This is so awesome!! But I would highly suggest that when you're training for a pull-up, also put some rows (Australian pullups) in your routine. They're easier to do for higher reps, but help tremendously with pulling strength!

This actually inspired me to start working on my pull ups, at first I couldn't even do a scapular pull up, yup sad lol BUT I started doing 10min of different variations like negative, holds, jumping pull ups and se core exercises. I was shocked when only 2 weeks in I got my first pull up ever. Rn I'm still practicing, I'm 3 weeks in and I can do 2 pull ups already. So thanks Browney:)

@@rae....... well my workout for pull ups was pretty basic, it was 45s on and 15s off, when I was progressing but at first I used 30s on and 30s off. My workout had also like some core exercises. The exercises I did where on a pull up bar and they where the next ones: Tuck hold Pull ups ( reps) Pull up ( hold) Negative pull ups Chin ups (reps) Chin ups(hold) Negative chin ups (eccentric) L sit hold or just dead hang hold Mixed grip( 1 hand facing you and 1 hand facing away)(reps) Mixed grip (hold) And that was it, of course I did all of those exercises band assisted, hope it works for you, good luck in your journey!

Yeah Sidney! Congrats! For anyone trying to do this, I recommend doorway bars as an option, I put one in upstairs and my wife learned to do them while getting ready in the morning, starting with negative pull ups and kipping at first

@@cloudy1989 I don't think there's any hard and fast rules about kipping other than they're easier, so people don't count them as real pull ups during a test or challenge. As a regular exercise method, they're not bad if it's what you can manage. Proper form is of course better, but if you can't do that, do what you can :)

The way I learned to do pull-ups was 'negative pull-ups'. You jump up and then release as slowly as you can. 3x10 morning and evening. After 2 months I was doing like 5 full ones

Amazing! I think it took me 2 years to get to my first pull-up. And then a year after that to get to 2 pull-ups in a row 🤣 I wasn't consistent in working out, I've been working on consistency the past couple of months. As of today I can do 5 in a row! 💕 Negative pull-ups helped me the most. Also, core workouts (esp. hollow body type exercises).

Can I just say for people beginning. Jumping pull ups are not a bad idea if you can’t do a single pull up just yet. It helped me build up my pull up strength especially going slow and controlled on the way down and I’d mix that with assistance bands ect. Don’t beat yourself up you’ll get there👍🏻
