What a bunch of sarcastic people commenting. Ugh. Go away. Thank you for showing the video on the lie down that doesn’t use force. Some of us really appreciate you.

This is great, but could you demonstrate on a horse that does not already know how to lay dow on cue?

I wasn't expecting this to be very helpful but it's actually the only video I've seen with laying down that was straightforward without forcing the horse, I've learnt one method but it often makes my horse jump or rear, now I've been doing more footwork with her I might try this and see how it goes.

Very nice with a trained horse, would be very helpful with an untrained horse.

I've used this method and it works great! If you start along a fence to begin with, it is helpful.

SamVanfleet on RU-vid shows how this is done more in depth, but this way of doing it does take a lot of patience and some horses will get it easier than others. I think it mostly depends on how good your basics are. People in the horse world don't usually spend that much time desensitizing their horses. Your horse has to be super comfortable with you, and scary objects before I would move onto this.

Ok, this is a different technique than I've seen, interesting to try it. My question is, horses laying down with ropes was originally done as a forced trust exercise to show strong willed horses they need to listen and you won't hurt them. Now asking is,far different than forcing, so would asking a strong willed horse to lay still give the same helpful result as forcing them with ropes?

That’s a good technique...what is it about tapping the belly that brings the hind legs forward?
@ChantelleGina

Meant to simulate a fly under the belly. They use the hind legs to kick up and shoo it away.

Ive tried for months to teach my horse this in this way no ropes.. he doesn't like to lift up his legs!
@hoofgirl31

unfortunately this doesn't work on a horse with sweet itch! I can basically beat my horse in the belly and he loves it, but makes no attempt to move his legs under and lie down...smh, looking for another non-force way

Why doesn’t the camera guy just get into a helicopter and video from it maybe I can see what’s happening better.

A horse cannot lay down. Just as we cannot lay down. Proper word would be lie down as in rest or recline. Please use the word properly. When you say teach your horse to lay down that means you're going to teach it to try and lay an egg. Not possible. Hope your instruction works better than your grammar. From another horse enthusiast, Emily
