hi bud,,i like to use 61lb Berkley Whiplash braid would that be ok on the both spools you get with the PENN TIDAL XT LONG CAST 8000 ? as i only use that braid looks a lovely real thanks for sharing.
Hi Jansen, this is a brave one, anglers are so passionate about reels. 😂 I was considering a couple of Fathoms and now you've posted this. I think fixed spools are very practical but why do those multipliers look so good, until they turn into a birds nest 🤔 Seasonal greetings all.
Hi Paul, I honestly believe that fixed spool reels are now on par with multipliers. The technology has been progressing nicely for a while and multipliers have been standing still. I’d reconsider the Fathoms and go for Tidal XT’s, or if you want to push the boat out, Shimano Power Aero’s.
Just bought a Penn Tidal XT 8000 .watched your video and done everything you did to get started. Went to Hythe last night First 3 casts ok . Then reeled in so i thought. no line was coming in the spool was turning but when i looked down the line had gone underneath the spool wrapped round the shaft ,So i had to go back to my Multiplier .Any suggestions would be appreciated
I have only used fixed spool for 30 somthing years now , I prefer rear drag or clutch , Question Are there many rear clutch /drag fixed spool ,sea reels on the market , and is there a reason why they are mostly fromt clutch
Read drag fixed spools aren’t practical for use with heavier leads. The clutch probably wouldn’t lock down enough to hold the force of a cast with a heavy lead on a powerful rod.
hello.. I'm hesitating between the 8000 model and the 7000 model.. except for the line capacity and the weight, is there another advantage knowing that I fish in the Mediterranean? thanks for the video.
It does come down to personal preference as the two reels are similar, but I’d go for the Penn. The build quality and general performance seems a little better. Jansen
