Team Building For Wrecker Games

This is the first time I'm seeing the headlights on the wrecker, and I am in love!!!

I noticed that the Offroad Wrecker was built into an International Harvester Truck. And I have an International Harvester Story!. I used to work for a Company named Solar Turbines, who naturally specialized in Early Jet Components and later Turbine Engines. International Harvester bought Solar Turbines in the early 60's and Solar Turbines was considered the "Solar Division". At one point early on Solar Turbines thought that Turbine power was the wave of the future, but it really wasn't however it did have certain niches wherer turbine power was more efficient like power generation and fluid pumping etc. To make a long story short, a couple of enterprising engineers who had too much time on their hands apparently put an experimental turbine engine into an International Harvester truck. It wasn't really expected to be efficient of the wave of the future, but it was a way to examine certain capabilities and problems, and was just a fun project. So at a certain point the engineers had done all they could to mate the turbine to the modified drive train of an IH truck and they took it on a road trip. They stopped at a Truck Stop and as a prank they went in and had a meal, and found some truckers who they approached and said, you know our Truck is making some strange sounds and we arent too good with engines. Could you come and listen to it and see if it is ok? So the engineers and the truckers went outside, the Turbine engine was fired up, and then they cranked the RPM up and up and up. And the truckers eyes got real big and they ran for cover, because they thought that the damn thing was going to blow up. But they were clued in on the prank and showed the turbine engine and it all ended up being an interesting look at a very unusual creation. A lot like the one-off of the Off Road Wrecker. Databyter

Hey matt and Lizzy@ matt's off-road recovery,fyi with these new Ford vehicles that have the 10 speed transmission , do not tow them like that. Unless you have the engine running. The reason is that these 10 speeds the pump is no longer run by the input shaft, it is computer controlled. You can tow them like that if you put the vehicle into neutral tow mode. If you do that without putting them into neutral tow mode over a long distance you will burn the transmission and may have to buy a new one!

Size wise, Matt said in another video 8 months ago that the heavy wrecker is about 1.5 inches wider than Mischief Maker and 13 inches shorter than a 4-door Gladiator. As for spotting a vehicle that big, back when I used to drive a tractor-trailer, if I was helping another driver with backing into a spot, I would use wing walker wands like the ones you see the ground crew using at airports. Easy to see, especially if it was night time. Incidentally, I had another driver tell me that his company didn't let just anybody try to guide him into a spot if he was doing a blind-side back at night, but since I had the wing walker wands lit up, it was fine. Not sure what kind of company has such procedures since that was the first I'd heard of it, but it was interesting.

How did I ever miss this awesome channel? Great stuff and hello fae bonnie Scotland!! I started building an off road wrecker about 5 years ago, I need to stop abandoning it for years at a time. Videos like this are so inspiring make me want to drag it out the weeds and do something with it!!

Thanks for taking us along on this. I hope running the trails with both Mischief Maker and the Wrecker helped you to learn the differences in capability between the two machines. It's so good to see people out having fun and working together. Wish I could come out to watch the Games in person.

Guys, when I used to own an old 1990 Audi 200 quattro, the turbo engine meant it didn't have a vacuum brake booster. It used hydraulic pressure assisted brakes. And it had a pressure reservoir to hold a portion of pressurized hydraulic fluid in case the engine died or the electrical system failed. I would not lose my brakes. The car's brakes were never that good, so without pressure the car could not be stopped. You should look into using pressure reservoirs for safety sake. Locking the steering should not result in no brake pressure. My Audi shared the hydraulics pump between steering rack and brakes, and they had independent circuits to prevent your problem.

I don't personally know anyone with a "deep Scottish accent" but I'm sure I have many cousins with a Scottish accent, and I love it. My Great great Grandmother was Jane Elizabeth McIlvaine Slaymaker. There also was another generation of my ancestors that married a McIlvaine, so I have a double dose of Scott in me 😁

Looks like it's about time for Matt to upgrade Blue Steel to a 1 ton dually and a 48' gooseneck flatbed trailer.

I love Matt being un spottable, because it means he can actually drive, and do it himself! Drives me crazy how many fancy RU-vid off roaders, are posers that never drive for themselves... Everyone needs to learn to read terrain and Know how exactly where their wheels are, and to feel what their wheels are doing. No one does that anymore, they all get the 3rd person commentary. So its refreshing that Matt does his own thing where he has a feel for his vehicle. Sorry, end rant lol.

Great stuff Holly. It is refreshing to finally see someone actually wearing their seatbelt. I have never called any of them out on it, not my job. They are all adults. But I wanted to acknowledge someone who chooses to do so.

I really love the color of your Jeep.

We remember the days when Matt you didn't use bead lockers and thought winches were for wusses. Pepperidge Farm remembers too. Wrecker turned out amazing! Where did you find the build-it-yourself kit for that thing again? Curious, will you be wearing safety helmets and will there be First Responders available during the Wrecker Games? Don't forget a fire extinguisher or two, of course driving goggles, driving gloves, and don't forget a handkerchief because all dads agree every man of substance should have one with him at all times yes a bandana or racing scarf will suffice. ;)

Rory I think is going to win this, his rig is tried and true tested every day, Merlin, then Paul then Matt. I forget the name of the crew coming from the east coast (sorry) but their truck has also been working daily but I think the sand and rocks which they are not use to will handicap them a bit. I can't wait for this showdown and I thank ALL of you for putting it on.

He made that look too easy that rear steering may do it for Matt Rory has the front dig going on an Paul does too Merlin has a powerful rig Paul has a full send mode like no other with a very capable rig Rory has skills an time experience with his very capable rig Eric I think will be a little out of his realm on the steep climbs on the rocks but it’s definitely going too be a challenge for everybody and something no one is going to want to miss watching. Definitely going to be some cheeks clinching moments for a lot of people 😂 .
