Episode one of three following the highs and lows of Team Classic Suzuki's visit to this year's Classic TT on the Isle of Man. This episode follows the RG500 and Danny Webb's time on the Island.
The RG500 is one of the great racing bikes. Those 2-stroke 500s were incredible bikes. So much raw power and so light. Seeing that front wheel lift under acceleration never gets tired!
I love the 2-stroke engines, the releasing of power at higher rpm's, the sound, the smell... I never owned a 4-stroke, since I was 18 I'm riding only 2-stroke bikes, my first was a Suzuki GT 380 with "Ram Air System", next was a Yamaha RD350 YPVS, Suzuki RGJ 250, I got as a present a Yamaha TDR125, now I ride again a Yamaha RD350 YPVS, the 4th season and I built in V-Force intake valves, replaced the CDI with a ZEELTRONICS programmable controller, to manage the ignition and the opening of the powervalve... I'll never give away this bike, she's my "beast" and I love her like crazy...
Some reason I accumulated like 3 or 4 72 models when I was younger. I had a ts and a tc 125 ,one of those RV 125s and maybe another ts or tc in there. Someone hotted one of em up back in the day before I got it and boy did it rip , you'd know better than me but I think it was some factory hop up kit. When I geared it tall, it did about 80mph and would walk past all my buddies on their late model 2 strokes once I started to reel them back in on a long road.
I will never stop riding a motorbike until the day I die. This is what it is all about, the passion, the feeling and the people you meet along the way. Doesn't matter what you ride Bike life forever
What a great piece, beautifully shot, terrific gent riding! Well done to all and Team Classic Suzuki for putting these old racers back on the track where they can sing.
I had one of these rg500 and a yamaha rz 500 when i was 18.....lucky to be alive as i would always take it up to 220 klm/hr before leaving the ON RAMP of Canadian highways 🤟🥰❤😱🌮☠🧛♂️ the sound, the smell, the life.......
Full respect for SUZUKI, to supply many RGB500s to many privaters. Without it, 500cc class would not have been able to have full grid races in early 80s.
I had the 125 ... got it de restricted after I passed my test.. it went from a coughing spluttering slow bike (hardly faster than my RXS100) into a Crackling Spluttering ...... PAAAAAAAAARP FAST little bike.. got about 60% more Power in the top 1.5k revs... Absolute Addictive Hilarity
@@neilhamill318 I’ve ran Maxima castor & 927 along with Klotz Benol & Super Techniplate in the past. I’ve got a Klotz castor oil scented candle in my office…yeah…it smells just like it 👍
I love to see some of these modern day riders ride these old bike. No traction control and a 1/4" wrist crank can mean the difference between a pass or ending up ass over tea kettle in the rhubarb. Those old two strokes were beautiful. Obviously not on the same level by any mean but I had a 79 Daytona special and I LOVED that bike.
I love these classic races , I have a 1100 87 gsxr , and an 89 750 gsxr ...my daily runaround is a little newer a 250 Inazuma suzuki but getting out on a classic is brilliant.
See you next year, i raced a souped up aircooled r5box and rd head in monello in the 70s . they could be tempramental, but great to ride, also had an rd 500 but never got it to the trace, memorable machinery. ps joey dunlop passed me like i was crawlin and i was goin my fastest ever. great great fun,
Thanks for the video. I had one for many years. Everyone loved taking it for a rip, but it was a terrible street bike. Weak 6mm bolts holding down heads and barrels, bum baking so you wouldn't ride it >25*c, 25min before you could take the choke off, used 18L/100km gas like a pickup truck. It's a classic but I didn't regret selling it
I'm a Webb too ( No Relation I Don't think ;- ) So I have always looked to see how Danny is doing he is an Awesome rider and I wish him a great a well-deserved Awesome career. All the best mate.
Man I'd love to have an RD400!!! I'm no brand snob- I've had Yamahammers, Hondas and am currently on a GSXR 1000- I love them all. Always had a soft spot for Yamaha's though as my two uncles used to own a Yamaha shop until one of them got killed on one. But the days of street legal two strokes had to be awesome! Just a shade before my street riding days but always dreamed of having an RD 350/400!!!
I've wadded a couple tz 250's one at over 90mph at willow springs. I always dreamt at the chance to ride a 500. Maybe it's best I never got that chance and am still alive.
I'm not taking anything away from the modern twist and go riders, but after watching this year's classic on the 250's, they all struggled, riding them like 4 bangers through the corners only Anstey rode it like you should.
My brother in law had one in the 90's we use to race each other from 30, (kph)- upwards. He'd keep with me till 100 (kph) then I'd pull away on my ZX10. He sold it through hearing of gearbox problems. At that time some people avoided them.
I believe with better tyres & shock of latest technology, this 2 stroker will give a run for their money for GP1 bikes. Long live 2 stroke & may Suzuki RG's lives forever.
