Not every class. Heavy Weapons Guy was still as slow as in TF2 but he made up for that by actually having high damage at all ranges and having 80% damage resistance with his armor. Still, having more mobility for most classes meant you didnt need to switch to Soldier/Demo if you needed to be somewhere fast. While they can still blast jump they are mainly used for damage and knockback to either boost teammates or block fast cappers in chokepoints. (like stopping the speeding medic in the 2fort spiral)
This was such a good game. I remember playing in the wireplay semi final against a clan called KKK. I came top as a demo man but we lost something like 60-40. But the game was a thrilling masterpiece. It basically cemented half life as the best game ever. As you had this, plus counter strike, plus half life itself. Ahhhhh splendid times.
I spent ten years playing this. I was one of the top spy class players. Could even tranq medics and scouts mid conc jump. There'll never be a game quite like this again.
@@johndavies115 : I probably played it 13 yearsl. From ~2000 to 2013 I bought Half-life in 1998 for 20$. It was a huge game with lots of maps, very long game play. Then I played online deathmatch mode. Then, at some point I downloaded TFC and CounterStrike.
Thanks for posting. This brings back some memories. I *loved* playing this game. Clans, guilds, 9v9, 5v5, leagues, Catacombs, TFL, plays of the week, predictions, perfectplayer (lol) - just a freakin' blast! Good times for sure.
In high school, we installed this game on the school's server (back in the day before adults knew about network admin), so you could play this game from pretty much any computer on campus.
Donnie Tramp Not sure, a friend got me the games on steam today. I installed TFC went to server list and played on servers with lowest ping. It was pretty fun. I will definitely be playing more.
+rigly Yeah I'll be purchasing tfc on steam soon. I thought that people didn't play this game anymore, but read some comments not long ago that the servers are still up!. I'm going back to playing it. Started playing it way back in 01. I've been playing tf2 quite recently and don't get me wrong, I like the new features there and stuff, but it just doesn't have the same feel as tfc
Thanks for uploading this bottle, funny how the algo must have snapped this one up hard to get it to 100k+ views. SIN & ARES were literally at the bottom of the competitive scene but that makes them better than 99% of people who ever played tfc, gotta love it
True. I was playing at a much lower level than I should. But I liked the people I played with. Hence why I was so well known in bronze/silver levels. I was accused of sandbagging regularly. The video is to point out skill level of the game. Because despite the ton of demo recordings, which were league required. Apparently nobody saved them or bothered to upload them in pure form due to not wanting to show flaws in their game play. So, i'm like how about I upload a demo a full match at mid-level, flaws and all.
@@thecaptainplus game was way slower. This demo is from 2fort, if you check some more open maps, with all the conc jumping, ramp sliding, this was insanely fast game with complex high skill ceiling movement, tf2 felt completely different. Many people couldn't transition to it, felt way too slow.
ae1337 try tf2 6s(6v6), its pretty fast paced. well, not as fast as quake or tfc but its better than casual mode aka what ppl think about tf2 gameplay(12v12). i tried it myself and its very good, not boring at all. wish i discovered comp tf2 earlier so i dont have to waste my 5 years in casual servers.
I was in [DvS], [U-235], nLv, auto!, |RBK|, and a euro team called insane Dutch killers, [IDK]. This is the greatest game ever made for me. Glad there's still a small community of us.
You can, but it's very hard since they bounce away from you, so it's recommended to use Rocket Launchers, Sticky Bombs and sentry rockets to blast jump. And only the Demoman can shoot grenades fyi.
Too bad sooo much of TFC classics history got erased with the deletion of the Catacombs website that our community used frequently back then. So many documented clan names clans, clan matches, records, screen shots and just general banter in its hey-day. [WOLF]QuikSi|veR a.k.a (CwO)GtsR'
This is exactly why I uploaded this video. It's purely for historical purposes. It's not to disrespect TF2 or any other game. I considered myself quite good. In my own niche. There are plenty of players better than me. They just didn't bother to record and keep their demos. I have handful (still). I chose to share it for historical posterity.
I've played COD and Battlefield and numerous FPS since TFC. Yes, the graphics are great but nothing even comes close to the community that TFC built back than. mIRC was a main reason. In my personal opinion, counter strike and TFC is the grandfather of online competive FPS gaming. Honorable mention to Quake but I think things really caught on after quake
Gosh, what's with old sites like that Catacombs site being shutted down? Would have been better if they were still alive for newer people to discover, but eh, I guess they want to spread the existence of lost media, and that's something that I hate. I mean, I would understand about sites shutted down due to stuff like budget and bandwidth problems even though I still hate it, shareyourworld for example; but some sites shutting down for no reason/s or invalid reasons, like that NintendoAge site being shutted down due to it was told that it was a forum when it isn't, makes me hate it. Better abandon them than just removing them, and mind about preservation too.
I spent so many hours playing this game. 56k modem hoping for sub 130 ping, praying my mom doesn’t pick up the phone. Medic, conc jumps, infect, capture the flag, top of the server.
Damn it's nice watching old school clan matches. I used to be in a TFC/CS 1.5 clan and we played on a match site called Area51. My clan was [.tG] I believe. Top Gun.. how original. Lol. Good momories from those days.
we had so much fun playing this break in the day. just come home from work, get stoned, crack open a few beers and play tfc for hours. I always sucked but sometimes could rack up some decent kills
watching this made my eyes get wide, i started chewing the air and rocking in my seat. like it got me high.. like it did when i was a teenager.. 25 years ago😢😅
"Conc jump", you have to use the secondary grenade (concussion grenade) of scout/medic class. It allows you to do that, with correct position/timing of the jump...
bunny hopping requires skill (unless you are a script loser), and making those (grenade) concussion jumps requires skill too. Plus 2fort is kinda limited for momevent, lot of narrow areas, almost no ramp jumps to be done etc.The point is, the movement part alone is very exciting by itself. Much more than in most fps teams games. Plus the rest...
Definitely gives you more to look forward to than the dumbed down "only point and click" shit Valve has now. When people like you were forced to play games like this, it was delicious, because you were just another death on the board.
Loved this game! I remember the good old days of competitive tfc in OGL, TFL, & STA with my clan Crimson Blade. Maybe I’ll redownload and see if anyone will mulch with me. 😆
I still play from time to time, though obviously it's not what it was in it's prime. I was one of the top players in the world back then and ran the very small but brutal special ops clan, there truly will never be a game quite like this ever again.. hands down the greatest team based online shooter ever made and nothing since has filled the massive hole it left or likely ever will. - [SO] Mr. Albert
Damn...great Times playing this back in the day... /tmp clan, Jell-( ), AGT, KOD, ][nsurrection, Clan Erinyes, Kindred. AOD, WOLF, NULL, BM...just to name a few...HELL YEAH!!
Nice. I was in a clan called F1 pretty sure we played cwo a few times. Also -[SKS]-. I miss 9v9 league play so much. So many good times. Just fucking off in irc or the cats forums.
Holy shit i found it yess ive been looking for this game since i started playing team Fortress 2 cuz when i did start playing it i always wondered if there was a team fortresss 1 and ive always asked peolpe whove played tf2 with who i know or just randoms ive played tf2 with and they always said there was never a tf1 or that tf2 was the first hell yess im sooo happy man now i wish i could play it
Thank you for the upload. Are you sure it was around 2004? Your bunnyhop is really fast. I think it was already more crippled when I quit around 2002...
Yes, definitely 2004, or possibly early 2005. I'm not sure on exact date because I didn't date my demos. This was after the speed cap was added and general bunnyhop/skimming nerfs.
[KoS] slaughterhouse5 this is TriggerHappy. Miss my boys what a game. We were one of the best and fn owned spy class better than anyone but Aerodactyl. He taught me the tranquizer. Best team strategy game fps ever
Ludator yeah, i mean giving scout, the fastest class mind you, a JUMPING grenade is just not balanced. Thats like giving the heavy a way to be as fast as the scout while spinning up his minigun, its broken.
scouts werent strong in tfc, thats why they were so mobile, same with medics. scouts in tf2 have a scattergun where you can delete anyone who has a low hp pool.
I really didn't as evidenced by me calling them terrible in the video. I'd be lying if I said I respected them at certain points. I was at the top of my game at this point and I didn't feel the same way about their defense. Such is life.
I use to play this game in the EU league - was in a Clan Armed and Insane [A&I] awesome and loved it, dial up all the way baby :) [A&I]Southstar checking in haha gg
while I can see the skill in it, I get the feeling bunnyhoping for everyone will destroy class balance. The game also feels very clunky with other mechanics regarding the weapons.
Strages in Nomine! Iplayed with VD, Rip, EX, Jag, Dassin, Spatch and the old crew. Nostalgic, these so called competitive esports games have nothing on this til this DAY.
Sadly no, to play this without install some virus in the community servers, you have to put the files file from tfc and valve in FreeTFC (a reverse engineer of goldsrc write in QuakeC) running on top FTEQW and compile in the SDK Nuclide. A full Goldsrc experience with 64 btis , openGL 1.4 and 3.4 support and compatible with modern GPUs
dont know if you still read the comments but i have a lot of old .dem clan matches i want to convert. how did you convert your .dem files to a video like .mp4 or .avi?
