What a fantastic race! Britain were down on the first two legs, but on the third leg, Devonish gets the baton smoothly, just as the US team fumble, and coupled with that, Devonish runs an unbelievable leg to give Lewis Francis a lead, which he just holds. Many people forget that Mark Lewis Francis ran a 9.97 that was just slightly windy as an 18 year old at the 2001 World Championships so no wonder Greene, now past his best, couldn't catch him.

Fun fact : Mr Marlon Devonish (I call him Mr Devonish) is my PE teacher , today he explained how he almost gave up in runnning but didn’t give up he only started really taking sprinting seriously at the age of 16 (because he did many sports at the young age, he was the athletic kid) and I’m super greatful he’s my teacher in PE he even let me wear the gold medal!

Love this vid - ultimate underdog story, GB were not expected to challenge for the gold, but came through due to the hours of practice they had gone through. Relay is about so much more than having the quickest sprinters, and this race proves that more than any other. Work hard kids, trust those around you, you can achieve whatever you desire.

This was an exciting race, but I saw some bad baton passes also for the USA. I'm sure that's why the team had to run down the GB team. Seconds count, and when you have bad baton passes that means adjustments have to be made and you lose valuable time! Speed is awesome, but you need that baton to get around cleanly

Maurice did catch him at the line IF exclusively judging by his leg crossing first. But due to trying to maximize his stride and shorter stature (a shorter upper body?), he was not able to lean his torso farther forward than the Brit's (to compensate for it being slightly behind the Brit's) in order to try to out-touch him. In support of that, it is clear the Brit's chest and shoulders were just slightly ahead of Maurice's the last meter.

The torso has to cross the line, so this excludes the head. See r 164(2) of the IAAF Competition Rules (just search it): 'The athletes shall be placed in the order in which any part of their bodies (i.e. torso, as distinguished from the head, neck, arms, legs, hands or feet) reaches the vertical plane of the nearer edge of the finish line'. I'm referring to the 2012-2013 Rules, but I think the 2004 rules should be the same.

What is wrong with USA men in Baton exchange?. Gatlin cleary struggled to give the 3rd leg the Baton and that was the difference between Gold and Silver. That was a Gold for USA had Gatlin did his Job.
