Some of the times ran in those days were so incredulously ridiculous. It’s so much more secure than the testing made back in the day. Athletics (or any sport measuring physical limits for that matter) will never be totally clean, but it has never been cleaner

I agree it must be extremely frustrating especially when you have represented your country but have not been given the credit or appreciation perhaps if he were running today things would have been different as there is more money in this sport now and he more than likely would be in a position like Usain Bolt tripping over himself with sponsorship deals , this sport let's not forget that was 24 years ago the sport has evolved a great deal since then.

Drugs also can't build muscles. It's about exercise. I was training sprint too, mates called me Christie :D... And no drugs or even much food supplements.

And the fact that he was such an unremarkable athlete for the first half of his career. He didn’t even make the 1984 Olympics team, he was 24 - he should be at his peak. But come 1986 - physically he was bigger and became the surprise winner of the European championships and from that point he went from strength to strength. Worlds, Olympics, etc. Totally not suspicious. He’s had multiple drug controversies as well. 1988 he tested positive for pseudoephedrine, but was given the benefit of the doubt. He has a history of evading and abusing drug testers in his career and in 1994, he bought an over-the-counter stimulant (containing ephedrine) for his teammate Wariso. And although he had retired in 1997, in 1999 he tested positive for nandrolone. That last one was cut and dry. A 2 year ban and banned for life from the British athletics association. I’m English myself and I love athletics to death, but I find it hard to respect Christie. I try to block out most of the 80s and 90s athletics, it’s all so dubious
