TEAM TALK: WE WERE WRONG ABOUT ALUMINUM BOATS!
Okay we admit it! We were wrong about aluminum boats. Specifically 17ft and under....Nobody should EVER own a "bass style" boat that is less then 18 feet. Give us a good ol' tin boat with a tiller instead.

I love y’all’s videos. HONEST truth about the boat industry. You guys don’t understand how much you have helped people pick out a good quality boat. Thanks for everything.

First glass bass boat was a '79 Skeeter SS Fisherman 2... 15 ft something tri-hull. '79 80 hp Merc.... At 6'2" couldn't fit behind counsel. You are absolutely correct that no glass bass boat under 18'6" should be made.

Fished out of a 18 1/2 ft Skeeter Starfire w/ '88 Johnson 150 GT for 15 yrs. Was a great boat for 2 people to fish out of. GT was a great motor but had a huge drinking problem.

The Ranger RT198P is almost 20ft and hits 60mph with a 150hp that sips fuel..for under 40K. The boat is foam injected so you can cut it in half and it will still float. But what about cracked hulls and broken welds? Ranger has a lifetime warranty to the original owner for all external welds, transom and internal ribs. But will Ranger honor their warranty? Look it up on youtube, at least one guy with a 2017 was given a brand new 2021 under warranty...due to Ranger having issues with the 2017s because they did not brace them properly...the new 2021s have fixed that issue. Either way, you get a new boat under warranty. So it's not an overpriced john boat...cut a john boat in half and see what happens. And it has plenty of deck space. So name a fiberglass boat under 40K that can compete?

I don't just bass fish out of a glass boat. I need to be able to crappie fish out of my glass boat with a crow's foot spider rig system. I need the room on the front deck to do that. I like the 19 footers for that. I like glass over tin because tin tends to be tipsy on the bow deck when you move around where glass is stable. River/creek fishing running Trotlines, 15 ft or 16 ft tiller tin is all you need.

Great video as always, but I'm confused. Are you saying that a 19 or 21 Xpress Pro would be a bad decision? Your earlier video on the Xpress X21 Pro was very positive, and I've been considering buying either the 19 or 21 X Pro because I'll be fishing a LOT of wooded areas in Louisiana.

For what ya got at that price we considered it a good deal. Would we buy a 19-21 ft tin boat? No, never....but we would buy a 17ft and under tin boat

Where I live in Pa on the Susquehanna River, a glass boat would be a disaster. The majority of the river is too shallow and rock ledges. Most of us run tunnel hull jet tin rigs. Some are built with 1/2 thick UHMW on the more expensive boats. Stock boats with thinner hills often will get K5 polyurea hull coating. But if you wanna run the Susky for smallmouth that’s what we do. Thanks

I’m 100% with you. I think the bigger aluminum bass boats are junk as well. I had a tracker with a 150 and it rode awful. Guy in my club went through 3 hull warrantees on an express boat. Aluminum is great for smaller tiller handle, glass for bigger bass boats.

Ill take the crap its my first boat and im a bigger guy 6'2" 260 lbs it lists but handles good and i dont have any super big lakes around me so it works really well with me and another person. I sorta agree i want a 17 alum bass boat and a 20 fiberglass cuz i live in michigan and we have big water. I want a havoc for the river and ducks.

Ive got a 2020 tracker grizzly all-weld aluminum 1648 jon/utility boat. Side console with a 40hp mercury 4 stroke. Its okay at best. Ive customized it a fair amount and turned it into a small bass boat style rig. Installed a 80lb fortrex, an onboard three bank charger, two group 31 agm deka batteries, put a recessed foot pedal tray in, extended the front deck which included two big storage hatches and rod straps and installed a rear fishing platform to extend the bench seat, put actual seats in the boat along with pedestals and the necessary bases, mounted a 9" unit on the console....those were the main improvements. I halfway regret the purchase but also can't imagine life without a boat now that I own my own. After the honeymoon phase faded away nearly a month after I bought it, I started fantasizing about a bigger 19'-20' fiberglass rig with a considerably bigger outboard. For now, my tracker is getting me on the water every weekend which is the main goal. Big fan of the channel fellas! Any thoughts on the my specific boat model? ever see them come through the shop? Thanks

Gonna have to disagree. My boat is 16'8" glass and I hate it. That being said I have no interest in a tin rig ever and I'd never own a tiller rig. I can get 7'+ rods on the port side and rods up to 6'6" on starboard. Yes I'm ready for a bigger boat and have been for years but haven't made the numbers worked out. No I'm not happy with my 17" but its worlds better than a jon boat

I don’t agree but I’m old. My first Bass Boat was a Ranger 1750A 1978 model bought used in 1982. This was the boat used in the 1978 BASS Masters Classic 17ft 115 Mercury tri hull with pad, ran high 40’s, put a hole shot on anything, very stable but hard riding. The most popular boat in my club was the 1550A which was 16 ft 85hp. The tri hull carried the width all the way to the front like a tin boat and were far more stable, comfortable, less effected by wind than the Jon Boat tin bass boats of today. The salt water market is all glass and I think they should be more small glass fresh water fishing boats. Tiller glass boats are popular for salt as well. Hell Sears had glass tri hull rowboats that had it hands down over a 12-14ft V hull or Jon. Back than I had 5 1/2 ft pistol grips and a telescope flipping stick so I don’t remember how long the rod locker was.

I’m going to have to respectfully disagree, there is a niche in the 17 foot fiberglass range. Ergo- the venerable Champion 176 Super Champ. Some wild ass crazy man high on cocaine rated it for 150 HP. With my slightly modded Merc XR6 it has 1.5 sec second hole-shot, runs damned near 70mph. Takes big water better than a lot of 20 foot boats, yeah... it’s a Champion. Turns on a dime. It’s basically a fuckin Lotus sports car in bass boat form. Drafts shallow, fishes back water fantastic and holds a dozen 8’ rods in the box. So what if it’s tippy! Come take a ride with me and I’ll scare the shit out of you in this overpowered little canoe. Ultimate single man boat. Love the channel, you guys rock.
