Taking a look at the history of the Team Valley Trading Estate Gateshead. Changed a lot over the years. I live in the past so I liked it more in the 60's and 70's. The traffic had be bad now. If you want to go somewhere quick dont go there lol. I am concertrating on this video back in the day.

Hi Colin. My dad worked at Reyrolle Parsons on Queensway for years during the 70s. I started my working life at Express Engineering, also on Queensway at that time in 1979. I was only there seven months or so before getting a motor mechanic apprenticeship elsewhere in Gateshead. My everlasting memory of working “on the Valley” is the smell of bread from Hunters The Bakers first thing in the morning 😁. Great memories. Thank you for posting

Dad worked at Bren Manufacturing until his death in 1973, then in 1974 I worked a summer stint as a student at Hunters the Bakers....... And after my night shifts then walked home along the Valley and upwards through Felling te Leam Lane Estate. Saved the bus fares via Gateshead!!

Was Jimmy McCormack your dad? I was an apprentice working on the next lathe to his when he had his heart attack. A very sad day because he was a great machinist who helped me a lot..

Another great one Colin. My auntie worked at Whymans the clothing factory in the fifties and sixties. I lived quite near to the estate so remember a lot of it being built, De La Rue and the NCB offices to name two. Funny you mention Orell and Brewster that were one of the first companies. They split as a company and old Mr Brewster went to a building in Dunston, I worked in the motor trade in the mid seventies and got to know him a bit; he was a real old engineer. Sadly he died around 1978. Keep them coming Colin, it makes me smile at the memories.

We used to drive through the trading estate in the 1950's on the way to see relatives in Winlaton. As a kid it seemed fantastic, so modern and with the large expanse of duel carriageway, so rare in pre motorway Britain.

Fascinating footage, cheers for posting this up. Quite surreal to see how it all started compared to how it is today. I worked there very briefly in the late 90's, was a nice place to work - easy commute & at the time easy to park (not so now). There seems to be very little history about it so it's good to see footage like this.

A lot of things change over the years but not the memories. Do you have any washing powder left? My dad worked at Stewarts and Lloyd's iron and steel complex but thankfully he didn't bring home any steel girders! Lol.
