The B1G is NOT going to give ND a better deal than UM or OSU because they haven't done it yet and that is why UCLA and USC punch their tickets to move! No one is going to beg ND other than the ACC, and that's because they have to!

Not to the BIG 10, the next 2 two possibly heading to the BIG 10, everyone that I have seen in the Sports media, is watching what happens to Washington and Oregon. The BIG 10 already has their door into California, USC and UCLA. What I am seeing as a possible scenario is the rest of the PAC-12/10 is an outright merger with the BIG 12 except for Oregon State and Washington State, which I see moving into the Mountain West Conference. Everything hinges on what Notre Dame does. If Notre Dame moves into the BIG 10, they get a bigger payday, the new media rights deal for the BIG 10 which they are in negotiations right now could be worth more that $1 to 1.5 billion which is a $62.5 to 93.750 million for each school. And that number will increase with more schools joining up. The media deal for the BIG 10 is in negotiations now with USC and UCLA, if Notre Dame moves to the BIG 10 from the ACC, the money increases big time...

The one saving grace for the old BCS system was that all of the schools in the six AQ conferences plus Notre Dame made up a little over half of FBS schools. So more FBS schools had a seat at the Big table than didn't (albeit only slightly more). If the SEC and the Big Ten are allowed to take just the top teams from all the other conferences and break away from everyone else (and there's nothing to stop them), then we're looking at just a quarter (maybe less) of FBS schools at the Big table, and everyone else can go pound sand. That will kill college football. Huge swaths of the country will eventually lose interest.

The Big Ten’s list of potential suitors is limited to two key factors: 1) Television markets. If your team doesn’t introduce the conference (BTN) to a top 25 television market, they probably aren’t interested. UCLA and USC gave them both Los Angeles (#2 market) and San Francisco (#6 market). One team would’ve been enough for that but for the fact that they probably vied for a package deal. 2) AAU membership. Having partnerships with AAU member colleges means large research grants and more money. UCLA and USC are both members. It’s not just about being a big football program. The Big Ten would never take Clemson. It’s not a prestigious academic university. Notre Dame is and would be a qualified candidate, despite lacking AAU status. They’re also a national brand and would garner more television markets. Right now, the best remaining candidates would be Oregon (AAU status and #21 Portland market) and Washington (AAU status and #12 Seattle-Tacoma market). Florida State would also be lucrative (inclusion into multiple Florida television markets and AAU status).

There’s room for 3 conferences. If the ACC plays their cards right, they can pull one on both the SEC and B10, by grabbing ND (allowing them to keep their NBC deal) and being the first conference to do TV rev-share with players.

Football wise the Big 10 is still lagging a little behind the SEC especially with them poaching Oklahoma who's been a force lately and Texas. IMO if the Big 10 can convince Notre Dame to join them then they'd be close to equal. The SEC is above the Big 10 with as is teams Texas and Oklahoma are a better get than USC and UCLA. The Pac 12, Big 12, ACC, and Notre Dame combine to create a 3rd mega conference with the SEC and Big 10

I think what should happen is Notre Dame, Oregon, Washington, Utah join Big10. Clemson, NC, FL State, and Miami go to SEC. Remains of PAC 12 and Big12 join into one conference and ACC and AAC join conferences. My only concern is NC and Duke are pretty much a package deal just based on basketball tradition and rivalry. But since Coack K and Coach Roy are both retired. That pretty much ends that and football again gets last say just like with the old Big East conference

The white guy is right w/r/t ND. If the B1G and SEC become (and they already effectively have) the only 2 conferences that matter and they kick the CFP and NCAA the boot and decide to decide the national champion between the two conferences, then ND will be forced to join one of the conferences or else risk being left out of the new championship and the resultant TV deals. Expect ND's hand to be forced to join the B1G in the coming months, along with Oregon and UW.

I doubt there is much enthusiasm from any of the SEC teams to have to fly to Oregon on a regular basis to play football. Clemson makes no financial sense because the SEC already has the South Carolina TV market. Also, Clemson will return to mediocrity as soon as Dabo takes over at Alabama when Saben retires. Virginia and North Carolina make the most sense as far as TV revenue. SEC already has Florida, so no FSU or Miami.

Can the ACC convince Notre Dame to join the ACC and then maybe get Penn State to flip from the Big 10 to the ACC. I doubt that a TV contract for the ACC would be enough to compel Penn State to flip but if that can happen then we can have three legitimate super conferences.

@Stormy583 2 года назад
You won't get Penn State to flip. They are living the cushy life with roughly 50 mill rolling in yearly. The number is probably more. You also won't poach any Big 10 team as the TV deal they are about to make with Fox will be bigger than the SEC. Before USC and UCLA joined the deal was worth roughly 1 billion dollars. Now with the addition of USC and UCLA that will probably get the Big 10 five hundred million more in revenue. This isn't including all the other acquisitions they will get. No way Penn State loses out on that type of money to join the ACC. Also it is extremely likely that with proximity to other Big 10 schools and the possibility that Stanford joins them to keep their rivalry going Notre Dame will join the Big 10. Too much money to lose out on. Plus all the money they have to shell out to buy out of the ACC and the NBC deal would be made up in 2 or 3 years tops

I was just thinking this, poor Memphis and Boise State because they were about to join the Big 12 and now they may get left behind yet again. But then again a lot of schools are going to get left behind if there's only two or three power conferences. Houston Cincinnati and UCF may find themselves in another conference just like the American after all is said and done but this time they might be the small fish in the pond. But I guess I'd rather be in their shoes than Memphis's. But there is a benefit to dominating the G5 if they continue to get their tie into the New Year's bowl games so it may not be horrible for Memphis if they play it right. Remember when they got left behind in conference USA and dominated basketball, their team was a final four caliber almost every year for a while

Think about what's best for business and FOX and ESPN's content. What conferences do they televise and what happens if you take too much all at once? Listen to what the media is saying and what they want you to believe. "The BIG10 is back on even footing with the SEC"! "Actually, they're ahead of the SEC" And you'll hear more of this kind of talk. They need you to perceive that the BIG10 is just as good as the SEC. Whether that is true or not doesn't matter.
