Thanks to this video, I managed to get a 37.981 in my second session on this track! I haven't went go karting for 4 years, and this video really helped me get a general understanding of the braking points and racing line, which helped me get comfortable on pushing the limit and lead me to finishing P1 in both sessions against my mates from college 😁 (A free karting trip paid for by the college, what's not to love eh?)
I am so happy that you had a good time at Cardiff. They are passionate at what they do and they always people a great experience. I hope you get the chance to go again soon 😃 say hello from me if you do 🙌🏻
Jasmine, if you're pulling off a 35.1 in a public session you're already far beyond your game 🙏 I would suggest booking onto Monday night social, its the same price but this time you get a whole hour of karting and you choose how you want to spend that hour (could do 3x20 mins, could drive the entire hour non stop) I can pass your details on if you want as I am racing tonight at Cardiff?!
@@ChristopherBallKarting Oh sweet! Only just seeing your reply. I'm going down tonight actually but will try and book for a Monday night ASAP! Thank you for that, appreciate it!
@@Jasmineevz Jasmine, I am so happy for you achieving your goals 🙌🏻 You're doing really well and that is not easy on a session where you're easily the fastest driver out there with a 34.6 😅 How did you get on speaking to the staff about Monday Night Social?
@@ChristopherBallKarting Thank you!!!!!! I forgot to mention when I was there but I'm sure the track is closed this Monday? That's what it said on the website anyway!
tonight is my first ever time on this track and ever in the UK. Had seen your video before going on the track. Managed to do a 36.6, still not a decent one. I am so lucky that I had several competitive racers in my group, so I can learn from them. I don’t mind being the slower one in the group, only this can help me learn. But I think I still need to push harder to the limit to reach 34.
I managed a 34.470 in my last run of the day which was done in a different kart to my previous session and my god it was so much more responsive. I’d have loved more time in it to improve my time, great fun though 👍🏼
Hey Chris I am going to be visiting teamsport for my third time tomorrow I did a 35.1 my worst part is the downstairs after the hairpin do you have any tips on the downstairs
Hey man, your session length will decide how much grip you have on these corners. If you watch some of my race videos you will see my line change from minute 1 to say minute 30. Another big factor is your weight, assuming you're in the 70-85kg bracket you will be able to follow how I attack the corner. You need to make sure you limit sliding and scrubbing by taking the wide line in the entry to the hairpin and right out to the far wall to keep the tyres moving fast. From here you can swing the car out to the left before flicking the kart to the right once again minimising the amount of sliding and holding your speed all the way down to the S-Bend where your trying to rotate the kart as fast as you can so you can get a clean run into the fast left before the start/ finishing line. Let me know how you get on 🙏, best of luck!
Any tips on where to brake ? I’m going with my mates tonight the first time I went I had a 37.022 not amazing but I didn’t brake at all apart from the straight coming after going up the hill
Use the brakes to slow the kart down to turn the corner. Always minimise sliding. If you enter a corner and you slide after not using the brakes then you're taking too much speed into that corner. Best of luck tonight 🙌🏻 say hi to the Cardiff team from me
Hey Rian, there's a few layers to this video that you wouldn't notice. This video sees me set the 2021 lap record for Cardiff. That meant the track has an extreme oil leak and the karts would stick a lot easier to the whole track. Because of this I was able to pin the throttle through the corner. On a regular day you do need to quickly snap off the throttle and pin it back down immediately to allow your tyres to keep traction. So an off/on and just smooth out your steering ready for the exit 🙌🏻
Hey thanks for showing me the tracks I’m one of the cadets and right now my best time is 34.5 so I’m trying to get a 32 the place I struggle the most is the S lane or going down the Ramp this helps a lot!
@@ChristopherBallKarting flat?! I’m going later and I can’t ever imagine doing that flat. I always crash there in fact and I’ve always thought it was because I didn’t brake enough 😂
Hello Cory, the karts drive differently on the above section to what they do on the below section. Get out there and enjoy your first session and then talk to the friendly staff members and they will be able to help you with anything you feel you struggled with from your first session. Before you know it you will be improving and getting faster laps, best of luck!
Can I start by saying that this is a really good question 😅 The first answer for you is that it's a habit of mine but the real answer is because I am usually holding a wheel for easily more than 15 mins at a time (sometimes up to an hour) When I do a race night I am easily gripping the wheel for long periods of time and I need to give my hands a break at EVERY opportunity to save myself for blisters or pain. The wheel tap is my few seconds of freedom from clinging onto the wheel tightly bit the HABIT comes from the wheel tap giving my hands a few seconds away from the wheel itself.
@@ChristopherBallKarting ah make sense , maybe I should try that. Normally by the end of my sessions I’m driving with one hand and shaking the other one about out of pain .
32 is super quick man! I did a 34 dead pre-covid in a race against you and never replicated it! check my videos theres one called overtake 2 where i get you at the fast left hander, i cut the video before you flew past and into the distance the next lap haha
