I am a GC and I do Fix and flips. If you love tile, you can repair crack in the slab with an epoxy injection, then put down a crack suppression membrane. Otherwise, I would recommend a SPC (stone polymer composite) extremely durable, great for pets, not very pricey. I recommend doing all the walls do and door renovations first while it is still a concrete floor and install the flooring last. Love your channel. Good luck. Cheers, Marc.

While I was a flooring mechanic for almost 20yrs, my opinion is not completely based on that experience. If it were me, I would do a floating laminate floor, you can get many of them that look just like tile.

Re: Flooring. We just replaced all the flooring in our house. We went with laminate over LVP because LVP is more sensitive to the condition of the subfloor than the laminate. LVP will eventually show all of the irregularities in the subfloor, any divots, dents, gaps, or ridges will come through. The cost of prepping the subfloor for LVP would have exceeded the cost of just laying the laminate we chose. There is still a requirement for a reasonably flat subfloor for laminate, but it's much more tolerant of small defects. That said, I saw that you had quite a few waves in the subfloor. That may require leveling with something regardless, which may make LVP an option.

Laminate may scratch....and possibly get moldy next to concrete. Vinyl plank may be better.

Laminate floors are quite good, especially the waterproof ones, makes cleaning so nice and easy.

LVP is the way to go with pets, also less likely affected by the change in humidity from swamp cooler running. and quite a bit easier to install than laminate to boot.

The scraper uses proprietary ToughBuilt blades. It requires those blades with the hole in the center.

For your house project, I think a better blade would be on the front of a bulldozer. :-)

Herb build a 4’ X 6’ box using 2x6’s plywood on the back paint the whole thing black, make a PVC looped manifold for it with an inlet and an outlet, paint the pipe black and cover with plexiglass. Tap into it with your waterline and run it to you hot water line.

You clench gripper rod spikes down? Well who'd of thunk it? Here in the UK we use gripper rod, when fixing carpets, never with vinyl! Also we do NOT try to clench those spikes! What we do is called "Footing the carpet" usually using a knee kicker but you can do it by foot. The carpet is laid and cut then stretched over the gripper rods. When the carpet tries to relax back into shape it is stuck firmly on the spikes. Then using a bolster the ends are tucked in to the gap between the wall and the gripper rod. Some posh carpets were screwed to the floor! I shit you not! washers were sewn into the corners and long edges of carpets and this was then stretched to go over screws in the floorboards! Too many years as a sparkie ripping up carpets to get under the floor and then get the carpet back so they could not tell we had been there (other than the mess, obviously) ;o) I would be going for planks in there. Easily self installed and looking as good as a hardwood floor. Also you already have the skirting boards off so they can be installed after and it looks like a pro did the job! I would not skimp on cheap underlay though, you would regret it if you did after the first week hearing the noise of your footsteps and the feel as you walked! My knees remind me constantly of how stupid I was when younger and not wearing knee protectors ..... be wise and see if the land has a set (maybe the land at the local store if not your land).

Love LVP - easy maintenance and cleaning, good in wet conditions, and durable as h3ll but prefers smooth and flat surfaces so grout might be an issue. You might as well paint and redo the trim while you're at it, so the walls match the floors that match the drapes.

Have Chore-Bot do donuts on the entry dirt pile. Boom, no more dirt pile.

I'd go laminate myself. No glue and the underlay foam will let it go right over that old mortar.

Carpet that crunches! LOL!!!! We have laminate and if you have a lot of sand it will get between the boards and grind away so I'd go for luxury vinyl flooring because it won't have any gaps and will sit better if your floor isn't totally flat. If you do laminate and the floor isn't 100% flat you may get some boards not level and sticking up a bit don't ask me why I know this.

That's not how carpet tack strips work. As a teenager, one summer I worked as a carpet flunky, and we'd do 4 or 5 rooms a day. Worst job ever. The tack strips are already angled toward the wall. You have to stretch the carpet taut, then affix the edge to the strips. You stretch it with a torture device we called a "knee kicker" (which is the actual name, BTW), with carpet grabbing teeth on one end, and a pad on the other you slam with your knee. It's fun the first few times. Several hundred times a day, not so much.☘😎

You need to get a large angle iron beam and drag it down the runway to smooth it and fill in the holes... It's the easiest, cheapest, and quickest way to do it...
