@@Idontknowmaybejohnsmith I agree 80s music is really amazing. But if you take the time to look around at the music today it's really amazing. So many talented people. Especially a lot of younger artists who could've never made it before but can publish and even record their own stuff now because of the technology improvements. 2010s we're pretty bad for music but 2019-now has been quite amazing I think. Have you ever heard romantic homicide? Street that you live on? Sunset by the midnight? There's some really great stuff

Im 50 now and the 80s is like some wondrous dream I woke up from early and wish I could fall asleep and return to. I know the worlds needed to move on in the decades since, and not everyone sees it through rose colored glasses, but what an absolutely magical time. It was all like some dream. Im glad I had it when I was young enough to enjoy it just the way I did. But I miss that time as though I miss a loved one who's irreplaceable and long gone.

If time would have just stood still in those magical times. I am 60 now, but I look back on the 80's as the time I really grew up. I graduated high school in '79, but I had the best years of my life in the 80's! I think back on those years with such a variety of emotions. Sometimes this music brings me back to that time in my life and I feel so sad that those times are gone. Some of the people are gone forever, some are still around, but we've all moved on and hopefully look back fondly on these memories. I miss those days...best years of my life!

@bluebirdconundrum
@bluebirdconundrum Год назад
Back in the day, Curt Smith seemed to get a bit more publicity as the "lead" in Tears For Fears, but I have always thought that Roland Orzabal is both the more talented musician and the better singer. This is not to take anything away from Smith, but in modern performances the mild deterioration of Orzabal's voice - which is obviously understandable - noticeably reduces the richness of the band's vocals. I think it is amazing that they still perform with the quality that they do, but Orzabal's voice had an unmistakable resonance that simply can't be replaced.

This is their wonderfully awkward love song. "Something happens" is passive voice. The songwriting here is genius. This describes anxiety, fear, and some anger so well and efficiently. It's the love song for people who aren't players nor have any game.

The whole song is very unique lyrically. Honestly I'd love to hear some interpretations, because it's rather oblique to me, particularly the second verse, and what's the significance of the 🍀? Whatever it means, it's brilliant poetry. They seem to favour imagery over direct meaning in their lyrics, kinda similar to bands like early R.E.M. and Live (at least, 90s Live), among others.
@beaubreau
@beaubreau 2 месяца назад
@@zonesquestiloveunderworld "Head Over Heels" by Tears for Fears is a song that delves into the complexities of love and emotional vulnerability. The lyrics portray a deep infatuation or love that the narrator feels towards someone, possibly reflecting on the whirlwind of emotions that accompany falling deeply in love, where one might feel both elated and vulnerable. The line "And this is my four leaf clover" suggests a sense of hoping for good luck or cherishing a rare find in the context of love. It's like stumbling upon something uniquely special and holding onto it as a symbol of fortune and happiness. The song's title, "Head Over Heels," itself is a common idiom that describes being completely enamored or in love with someone, to the point where you're almost metaphorically 'upside down' with emotion. This intense emotional state can lead to a sense of disorientation, mirroring the chaos and unpredictability of love. Throughout the song, there's also a sense of longing and a desire to connect deeply with the object of affection, coupled with the fear of unrequited feelings or the potential for heartbreak. The music and lyrics together create a powerful emotional landscape that resonates with listeners, capturing the universal experience of falling head over heels in love, with all its complexities, hopes, and fears.

Lol it absolutely can, it's just gated reverb which was accidentally discovered when I believe the drummer for the Eagles played drums during advertisements of a radio show they were on, and the vocal mic which was outfitted with a gated reverb picked it up and someone listening liked the sound. it went on to define the 80s, and is still commonly used today just not as exaggeratedly.

I went to see Tears For Fears in Detroit when they reunited for the Everybody Loves A Happy Ending tour. Not only were they amazing, they sounded great, put on a great show, played their hits & some other stuff, but it was one of the best shows I've been to. After the show I went out back. I had bought a poster of them that they were selling at their merch booth & thought I'd try to get it signed. Not long after, Roland & Curt came out & were super nice to the fans that were waiting. I got my poster signed by both of them & pictures with each of them. I was so excited cause I had such a bad year before this. I had lost my father to pancreatic cancer a few weeks earlier, & suddenly I was transported back to 1985, when my dad bought me the Songs From The Big Chair cassette. They were so nice & humble & it is a memory I will never forget. That is why I'm still a fan until this day. As a side note I love this song.

Can we talk about Roland's intensity when he sings? He gives it everything he's got and has such a big voice. I just love when he sings "this is my 4 leaf clover" and holds up 4 fingers. So good.

The '70's and '80's rule the music industry even more so than the '60's, for different reasons. The '80's was the MTV generation and made music so accessible.

I was in my early 20's when this song hit the charts. At the time, watching this video on what was then a novelty - "MTV," and seeing that last scene of the married couple in their old age, I thought - "How sweet. Someday, far, far away, that will be me and my wife." Now, near 61 years old, I realize that it's really not "funny how time flies." To all of you young people: enjoy your precious youth, my friends. Hold it more precious than gold, because "it slips away - like dust in the wind."

Exactly. I was 13 when this video came out. I tell every young person the same. Enjoy your youth , it will be gone before you realize it.

I'm about the same age. I still remember what I was doing the afternoon of LiveAid, in my 1976 Olds Delta 88 cranking Queen at Wembley. I always thought it interesting that Roland Orzabal, Matthew Brodderick and Jon Cryer had really similar looks, and could have been brothers.

I just hit 25 this week and revisiting a playlist I have made a couple years back, and funny enough I get that nostalgic feeling listening to this song. Its funny how your brain associates certain memories with a song. This one is definitely one of them and you're absolutely right. The last 7 years have gone by so fast. I'll never forget to live my life to the fullest and I encourage everyone to do the same

This video is such a great way to tell the story about the lyrics of this song- how embarrassing and how vulnerable you can be when you admit to someone you’re falling for them and not knowing how they’ll react to it. Music videos from this time were really something amazing
