Tears for Fears are so criminally underrated that it's tragic. There are loads of crappy 80s bands who still get recognition, but a high quality band like Tears for Fears is still quiet obscure. Roland can sing with such passion and emotion, it's unbelievable. Heck, Tears for Fears even released a couple of stellar albums in the 90s, "Elemental" (1993) and "Raul and the King's of Spain," (1995) which hardly anyone is aware of.
They were never obscure. Several of their songs are well know even to the younger generation today. I think what you mean to say is that many of their *best* songs are lesser-known than their hits were.
@@tiduzffx I've got all, or most, of their albums. The Hurting is good overall. To be honest many of their songs are hit-and-miss for me. The ones that I like are really fantastic and I put them up their with my favorite songs of all time. But there's also a bunch that I'm not real fond of ... I feel Simple Minds was more consistently excellent.
@Micheal Martinez NOT too certain what tenchi586 meant !? but although I'm late I do want to chime in and say they definitely weren't obscure in the mid to late 80's and in fact I do believe they were voted as one of the top British Bands of the 80's their songs have appeared on film soundtracks and many of their hits have been covered by a younger generation of artists including Gary Jules and Lorde PHEEWWW long share but hope you enjoy the evening!
I remember singing this song in the girls bathroom while i was cutting class and my friend started to sing along and i was amazed that she actually knew the song we sang it all that day. Im african american and this was real msic when i was growing up in the 80's. They dont make em like this anymore. My friend passed away and whenever i think of her i think of this song they are both beautiful. RIP Theresa
I don't know what it is about this entire song, and I've heard thousands upon thousands of songs so far in my life as a musician, but, I really think that this could quite possibly be the greatest pop/rock song ever written, and recorded. Its transient, transfixing, transportent, transcending. ENOUGH SAID!
I honestly cannot believe this is LIVE. There is a handful of bands that sound this good in concert. Pink Floyd, The Cure, Yes, The Who, Eric Clapton, Stones, The Police, Queen.
Tears for Fears is one of those bands that had greats song but were even better live. I had a chance to watch them live about two years ago and they still sound great. Roland's voice is still as powerful as ever.
I saw the Cure live and FREAKED OUT!! Just like you said, the sounded EXACTLY like the record. One of the best concerts I ever went to. I have to admit that Seal sounded like his records, and Talking Heads/TomTom Club were so on point at Red Rocks they played an extra hour. I will never forget that concert.
Ian Stanley I feel is very underrated as well he is a very accomplished keyboardist and was key on a lot of Tears For Fears projects. He was great at what he did.
Great song, great band, Roland sings almost pitch perfect live. Must mention their drummer: Manny Elias, so original and unique style of drumming. Thanks for posting.
THE WORKING HOUR. An absolute musical masterpiece ! I love everything about it. The lyrics, melody and Manny Elias' drumming. Very pleased that Manny got a writing credit for the track too. ☮️ ☯️ 🌻
Lord have mercy, that voice, that sax, those drums, that bass... and the message - find out, find out, what this fear is about. If this isn't a perfect song, don't know what is. Just as perfectly performed today as back then.
"FIND OUT, FIND OUT, WHAT THIS FEAR IS ABOUT!.." Big, beautiful, cry from the heart of a song, comparable to Bohemian Rhapsody or Baker Street. I don't even know if it was released as a single in the UK? Just adore it at the moment. I was basically born a decade too late for these guys! I was only about 10 when it was written, and am now in the midst of my own private odyssey in to T.F.F. and their considerable body of work...a mere 35 years on! Thoroughly enjoying the process, though. Makes me wonder how many generations to come will discover and fall in love with them. God bless 'em.
"and who are you photoghraphing today?" "a band called.... tears for fears... is that right?" "no..." "no? what is it then?" "we're called the beatles" "the beatles!" "AAAAH!"
wow!!!!!!!!!! one of the greatest tracks of all time!!!!!! i remember when i first heard this i was mezmerized!!!! i am an african american who grew up in the 80's and tears for fears is one of my favorite bands!!!!! music has no color!!!! if your good your good and tears for fears are GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a great song! I watch this as I'm in between jobs; how ironic. On a different note - why can't today's musicians play music with this much quality?
The whole song is amazing but that drum part literally brings me to tears. For Fears. (Couldn't resist, wasn't planning on it). Seriously on those drums tho.
I am a huge heavy metal fan always has been ever since the 1970s but this is just great music. This is a perfect song to wake up to Everyday it has such a sleepy Jazz feel at the beginning to slow you bring you out from your sleep and just slowly starts building up to the crescendo. You will never have a bad day waking up to this song.
This has to be the best live performance of this song. Unbelievable how good the acoustics are and Roland's voice. I wonder if this song was released today would it be as popular as it was then.
I remember first hearing this as a tune on the King Biscuit Flour Hour. I used to tape it off the radio. Played this show repeatedly. Roland held long notes amazingly.
salvadormarley, Tears for Fears is actually still popular among many teens. Most that have heard of the band only recognize like one song though, usually Everybody Wants to Rule the World. It’s not something you’ll hear if you tune into the local radio because this song is over 30 years old. Time continues to fly by, and that means that things change. I don’t understand why everyone makes a big deal about the new generation’s taste in music. I’m not much of a fan of the music today, but I’m not going to go up to someone and say, “That’s not my taste in music, which makes you stupid for listening to that.” I’m pretty sure that many people that grew up in the 1940s didn’t say, “Wow, this 80s new wave sounds really great!” They most likely thought it sounded bad because it was different. The music industry isn’t, nor hasn’t, been stuck in one decade for a multiple decades.
it further goes without saying that either of these guys have more talent in one finger than 99% of the biggest names in pop today, and yet I doubt anyone can even name them or the band under the age of 35..
Roland has the best voice, boy can he sing and what strong vocals...and so funny. Ive seen him on many interviews, great personality. ..not to forget Gorgeous. Love this man!
Without doubt, one of THE best bands of the 80's. This is by far my favourite tff track, so atmospheric, that screaming sax, fantastic drumming & Rolands voice, just mesmerising!. When I hear the song start up it reminds me of the sun coming up on a perfect day, with everyone just about to start their daily routine. The 80's were the best time ever for music, so much talent, creativity and personalities. Music said so much back then. Sure there's talent around today, but it's forgotten a year or two later. Songs like this are just timeless!
Juliana Nogueira me too, especially when I listen to everybody wants to rule the world and head over heels. I just found this song today because I was read an interview that Roland did this year 2018 and he mentioned "The Working Hour". He's absolutely amazing and humble. Love this artist so much...
I love tears for fears so god damn much. I've recently discovered them and my word I just can't get enough, the bit at 3:18 makes my hairs stand up on end.. I could kiss that Roland bloody orzaba.....
que música linda eu não sei o que acontece comigo é como se eu flutuasse e fosse Pará em outro planeta não sei explicar é o eu sinto quando escuto essa música é algo enesplic avel se é que me entende demais
One of the best pop song made by men...TFF huge influence in the 80s for me- 80s the best decade we lived- miss it all, it will never be like that- new times are disgusting.
Luis X. Rivas yes !! Thank you ! I’m so tired of everyone saying all music sucks nowadays. I love tff and I may not listen to much music made nowadays but there is definitely good stuff out there !
This group was such a huge part of the 80's TFF just gave us such good music that had meaning and was such a joy to listen to. I was 7 years old in 1985 when this album came out but I remember listening to these songs back then and listening to them today brings back so many memories of my childhood. The 80's has such great music because of groups like this one.
Graças a meus pais 🙏❤️ tenho um ótimo gosto de música boa até hoje em 2022 viva anos 80 e 90 essas músicas vai ficar eternamente em nossos corações 🙏❤️🇧🇷👍
Tears for Fears - musikale Treue ein Leben lang. Kein Wunder, dass ich nach England ging. Die Musik der Briten aus den 80ern ist kaum zu übertreffen. THX SJK
Still have the vinyl of this, bought in 1985 (or late 84). In my top 5 records of the 1980s along with The Blue Nile and Robbie Robertson and...can’t think of the other one. Kate Bush’s Hounds of Love, perhaps...or Talking Heads...
Saw them in Chicago in 1985 at the Aragon theatre, they played this song with what I thought to be a teenager on the Sax, lol. This song has everything yes. The Best TFF song.
