@@sadaakisz There is still this absolutely stupid sentiment that "bigger number make programmer go brrrr". In reality the years of experience you have on your job doesn't say jackshit about how competent of a developer you are. I've met people while studying CS that have never worked in IT but have just been hacking away for 15 years privately. Those people are able to come up with complex hashmap algorithms in less than 20 minutes. Meanwhile I've seen other people who've actually worked in programming environments struggle to find their C: drive on their computer. People seriously need to reevaluate how they go about finding good devs. Posing the 6713th question about a "good sorting algorithm" is definitely not how to go about it.

Now it's like: - Extensive Experience with Python and one or more low level languages - how do they check that experience? you live code an arbitrarily stupid algorithm which nobody ever uses for absolutely nothing except writing scientific papers. - Extensive Experience with SQL AND DB administration (but it has to be the exact one they use, or you are out) - Extensive Experience with GCP, Azure or AWS (but when it comes down to it, they will reject you for not having used the platform they work on) - Extensive Experience with Kubernetes, Docker - launching, configuring and administering and troubleshooting instances - Extensive Experience with CI/CD with 'X' - Extensive Experience with Tableau - Experience with classical Machine Learning and Deep Learning frameworks nobody except Fortune 100 companies have the money to afford to use (btw, classical ML doesn't matter to the company as they do everything with neural networks, but they will ask you questions about everything else that they don't use) - Experience with Reinforcement Learning - Extensive Experience with Kafka, Hadoop, Spark (also list all other Apache products) EDIT... I forgot JIRA and microservices!!! - Experience using FastAPI - Experience with Git, JIRA and all the other arbitrarily useful software. (git is awesome) Bonus points for: - JS (any of the 75,000) - Experience with mentoring and leading a team (even though this is a junior position) AND BY THE WAY... when you get to the technical interview, get ready for some dumb**s questions that have nothing to do with the job described or the requirements. They don’t “find” employees. They put up a bogus listing, interview and then reject anyone who applies before going to the government to claim the talent they need doesn’t exist state-side. They get a grant for a visa, hire someone from India or Pakistan fresh out of university, hold onto their passport and then pay them less than minimum wage. Under threat of deportation, their new “employee” can’t quit, complain, or ask for a raise. As soon as they stop being useful-they’re gone. And they find someone else desperate enough to take them up on the offer. This isn’t just happening in web development or just in the US, this is an ongoing crisis of corporations addicted to cheap labor who hold no obligation to the societies in which they operate. This isn’t some anti-globalism dog whistle either, they’re treating good people trying to make better lives for themselves like slaves for their bottom line and the government is just letting them do it. The reason there are so many job listings like this is because the hiring managers posting them want to hire internally but are prevented from just hiring their guy by a stupid rule all the companies have that all jobs have to be posted publicly. So what they do is that they take the exact resume of the exact guy they already want to hire internally and they post that guy's exact resume as the job requirements. Then they just hire the guy they intended to hire after having technically complied with the rule. This is happening at LOTS of big companies, but it also influences the job postings of smaller companies who don't know what they want, so they just copy the kinds of requirements they see from the big companies and that's what happens. Apply anyway if you've been doing anything reasonably close for a few years. Get ready for lots of rejections though because the tech job market is FLOODED with applicants right now after the mass layoffs! It's a buyer's market. Employers get to be real picky.

Yeah, I've seen that done in my department (I wasn't in Software Development at the time). The job requirements were awfully specific and, when it comes to the required experience, delusional: 10+ years, when I had gotten the job with 0 experience a couple of years prior. Turns out it was someone's acquaintance that they wanted to hire and all that experience amounted to nothing, because he was asking me for help and advice about how to do his job.

@@HarryBallsOnYa345 Probably the point. To see if you have the balls to challenge them and call them into question. It's a test. Well, that and bad habit. It's both. Either way honesty is what's important. Good communication skills will always be the number one focus. Because without that whatever the job is will fall apart. If their communication is "Bullshit with excuses" then challenge it. Find out more. Make valid counter arguments. Worst case scenorio, you don't get hired. Best case scenorio, people that try not to get hired, get hired. Because they don't stand for bullshit. Treat it like a realationship in other words. Trust me on this one. I got a partner and we make it work because conflict keeps people honest. Boss fire you? Keep asking them questions. Keep pushing for communication. They'll either hire you to stop taking up their time, or they'll actually see you as persistent enough to get results. If that doesn't work then unification I suppose. It's the one thing people with power fear. Because you can't buy back a ruined reputation. Reputation in turn affects sales. So in a sense you can use a companies greed against them. Companies that get absorbed into bigger companies also end up dying off. It's by design. Think about how EA does it. It's like that. EA takes over other gaming companies to have the half baked unpolished mess on release and they want that because they see the smaller companies as a threat to them. So instead of risking competition they buy them off. Under the guise of "helping" them. Which is exactly what happens with job companies as well. This is only a fraction of what they get up too. HR is another can of worms. They'll trick you into signing a "handbook" to sign about not being able to sue them. I've never had a job and I know all the traps. Because I do research and play the system instead of letting it abuse me. No rat race for me.

What I find really unfortunate is that those who market themselves are the ones getting hired, not the ones with the required skills. These people usually have little knowledge, but confidence plays magic for them. On the other hand, people who do possess the necessary skills know the complexity of the topics and don't have much confidence (even though capable). Really, the more you learn, the less confident you are because the more you understand the complexities. Confident folks have shallow knowledge and basic understanding.
