As an automation specialist I've put hundreds if not thousands out on the street. In my most recent layoff I just decided to quit evolving as the company went in a direction I refused to go. I also did not see any of my fellow colleagues replaced by AI.

Exactly we choose how much is automated away. The idea that we have to do it is nonsense. Only us tech people can do it, so business can ask things and we can give them token automation.

@@rejectionistmanifesto8836We must collectively name, shame, and worse to the people embodying near-AGI into androids. They are dooming us all... Traitors to the human species. Way worse than Hitler, if civilization doesn't radically shift to a new economic modell.

Why anyone thinks that the profit created by ai will be shared is beyond me. We already live in a system where the profit goes to the few at the top. It’s only going to go more in that direction. How can you choose what you want to do and pursue your dreams if you don’t have the coin to do so?

I find myself rhetorically talking to these video commentators with the exact same point. What the heck makes people think that corporations will distribute the profits they make from more automation to the general population? That's fantasy.

The number of generations that go from "You need meaningful work to be satisfied" to "It sure would have sucked to live when you had to work 40 hours/week just to stay alive" will be exactly one.

I work as a senior infrastructure and operations engineer for one of the largest healthcare companies with the highest technical access working with multiple departments in projects and upgrades. The only jobs being replaced by AI "at this time" are the mindless, boring, repetitive jobs and even those will take at least another year to complete due to price quotes from different vendors, budget approvals, proof of concept, security reviews, developer testing, user testing, security testing and then acquiring approval from many top managers for an actual go live date. Anyone doing mindless, boring or repetitive jobs should be happy for the opportunity of finding work doing something rewarding. It's very simple to remain employed within a company... make yourself valuable to the company. For example IBM tried to have me laid off simply because I negotiated a higher salary than my co-workers... and within 2 months they were begging for me to return because their clients were demanding for me to be rehired.
@redrustyhill2
@redrustyhill2 7 месяцев назад
You fail to realize, most those people doing mindless jobs are doing that because they are that, mindless npc drones. They are completely incapable of "becoming more valuable "

You fail to understand exponential curves. These current crop of ChatGPT5-embodied robots will replace 90% of hospital staff, including 90% of nurses, in just 10 years or less. Only senior surgeons, training the next gen android surgeons, will keep their jobs, for a wile.
@jordanaldujaili5788

So what jobs in tech are being replaced by ai? From what I hear on the news and from people I know who work for these companies (google, Microsoft etc) the majority that got laid off were non technical roles that are over paid and only work 2-3 hours a day. Maybe some got AI’d out but I suspect it has more to do with the hyper growth tech experienced during Covid and now needs to shrink due to shareholders. I agree ai “will” affect most tech jobs, but presently ai is too much in its infancy stage to do what a well seasoned software engineer can do.

Fact is that AI is cloning people. They first learn from a qualified person and learns how he does the job, then takes over that man's job and does the job with the expertise it copied from the man.

This time, damn near 120 million Americnas (90%) will be out of a job by 2030 at this rate. We are screwed. The AGI androids will be so efficient, so undemanding, and so cheap, that the billionaires will play shell games with themselves and gain unimaginable wealth, money that is sucked directly from the Bottom 90% until we're all serfs.

Great take as always 👍 I would wonder where the AI automation leads, if we all have agents answering our emails and responding and setting up meetings etc, will we all end up ignoring it eventually? Did my back and forth conversation with Bob actually take place if Bob never saw it? Entering a quantum existential crisis of society. Maybe in-person becomes the most sought after commodity? Who knows… Also, WiFi is not progress in the book of anyone for whom a 10 second dropout could ruin an entire weekend. Fiber all day every day please. Great show, thanks!!

Working for corporations is not worth the nightmare bs you have to put up with anymore. Used to be a trade off with advantages over starting your own business. Im done. Id rather be homeless than deal with executive psychopaths and narcissistic a holes and nasty coworkers. society, post social media, just sucks. not worth it.

ME economy sounds so self-centered, egoistic even and not joking. Why not AI economy, standing for 'all inclusive'? Kind of socialism but with new flair of the tech aspect. Just my two euro cents.
@JamesMccorn
@JamesMccorn 7 месяцев назад
You did hit on the crux of my point. It is self-centered, i.e., what gives you meaning is what you choose to be meaningful to yourself. No longer is someone else telling you what is meaningful or what has value, as you will be liberated from that. Self-centered, egoistic people are not bad if the incentives guide them to focus on legacy, community cooperation, and multi-generational thinking rather than on short-term thinking. I try to avoid socialism, as individual people will determine where to spend their Universal Generous Income, not the government. This would be, by definition, Not Socialism.

This si really dumb! They real reason behind mass lay offs is the interest rates hikes and the fact that Big Tech was overstaffed. Nobody is lossing their jobs to AI yet and if so, content creators would be firts to do so.

2 ESDRAS 15: 14Woe to the world, and them that dwell therein. 15For the sword and their destruction draweth nigh, and one people shall stand vp to fight against another, and swords in their hands. 16For there shalbe sedition among men, and inuading one another, they shal not regard their kings, nor princes, and the course of their actions shall stand in their power. 17A man shall desire to goe into a citie, and shall not be able. 18For because of their pride, the cities shalbe troubled, the houses shalbe destroyed, and men shalbe afraid. 19A man shall haue no pitie vpon his neighbour, but shall destroy their houses with the sword, and spoile their goods, because of the lacke of bread, and for great tribulation.
