The kind of storage on a 1994 computer couldn't even hold a barebones version of a modern OS.

@Abnormal Drawing MJD had he Is $5 windows 98 PC support windows Vista and I think it was eventually able to run windows 7. But he had to add system memory. But a machine built before 1995 running windows 3.1 or older wouldn't be able to handle windows 7 like you said. They'd probably be able to handle 95 or 98... maybe ME and a big maybe on XP. I had a system with 256MB of system memory and a 60 GB HDD that ran windows XP. Not sure what CPU it had other than it was a celeron. It is funny that the scammer asked about updating the computer haha

Yup, that would require recieving the update on a floppy disk by mail. I got my first PC in 1994 and it was a 486 with 4MBs of RAM and 200 MBs of diskspace. Yes, MEGAbytes. And that was a decent machine at the time.

And not mandatory updates that could possibly delete some or all of your data f one of the numbers has a glitch.....

Now, no updates at all until I have saved up for a hard drive for backup first and then factory reset the laptop or something...

Yeah, just came here to say so much RAM at that point of time might not even be supported. My first PC I got in 1995 had Windows 95 and 8 MB of RAM. And I was dreaming about another 8 MB!

Early Pentiums, what you'd commonly find in 1995, tended to support something like 192-384 MB depending on motherboard, but hardly anyone went above 64 MB due to something called the TAG RAM limit. It basically meant capacities above 64 MB wouldn't be cached, which made the PC feel like a 386 since memory was read from the slow part first.

It is a virtual computer, so hes not actually using the hardware that would have been used originally for 3.1. Its essentially just meant to look like it and function similarly so that people can use old software on its original OS.

This means that Kit actually acquired Windows 3.1 installation media and went through the installation process, just to bring us this bit of entertainment.

There's no way he did. 3.1 was 16 bit. There's 0 chance they've made any sort of remote access for a 16 bit arch, let alone any recent remote companies. I'm guessing he gave access to the parent device and basically full screened it with minimal show

I didn't like NT so much, but '95 was pretty cool. My network guys in the Army put NT on my laptop then told me I would have to wait until they felt like it to give me access to my own A: drive. My answer: "🖕🏼🖕🏼" I put '95 on it so I could do my job. They weren't very happy with me. 🤣

The Abominable Snowman was triggered by an internal timer function, as I recall -- basically, it was programmed to prevent the user from playing the game indefinitely, as once the Snowman appears there's no way to escape him. So why not just have an endgame condition where the user reached the "finish line" or the bottom of the mountain? Probably because it was easier for the programmer to skip all that....

I didn't have more than 16MB of RAM in my old Pentium 133 System back in 2001 xD 28MB would have been a godsent.

We had the 486 DX 66mhz as well, but only 4MB ram (later upgraded to 8MB) and 420MB HDD 😂 The momentous occasions I remember were adding a sound card and a CD-ROM drive, as we had no sound before that. I still think back to it sometimes when I think of how a few minute long high quality video can be hundreds of meg and couldn't have fit on the whole drive. That was the family's 2nd computer - first one was an Amstrad CPC464 which had 64kb ram and used either 360kb double sided floppy disks or cassette tape for storage.

Walmarts that offer their layaway option still use machines running DOS. It's a proprietary OS written exclusively for Walmart with the express purpose of layaway and a few other niche situations only. Can't use the register for anything else at all. Trying to train new hires to use an OS from before a mouse was standard equipment was a lesson in patience! People trying to navigate through key presses and command prompts when all they've ever known is touch screens is sort of hilarious until it's causing hold ups. You'd think a company that wealthy could afford an updated process 😅
