Tech Time: 3D Hologram Fan Projector. Are these things any good?? 

Hi Rico, that looks really cool. And a very happy, (belated), birthday from me and Theresa 🎉. Can't believe its been a year since i last wished you happy birthday

So what would be really cool is if someone, using this REALLY OLD TECHNOLOGY, would make a "3D TV" (ish) thing. Perhaps bigger blades or multiple units to create a full 16:9 "display" in full color. Then, make a controller for it that will accept an HDMI input into it, like from a PVR (or cable box) and have some sort of 2D to 3D converter (sort of like what LG had that wasn't that bad). Then, you could watch any show in 3D(ish) in mid air. Now that would be cool!

Bring back the drive ins, lets attach these to giant energy windmills for 3d movies 😂 the tech is pretty simple and cool got a project in the works using em for signage

Happy birthday (belated)! As a 56yo dude in tech, I tip my hat to you, sir, as I try to learn more about these interesting devices and if they have any value beyond the gee-whiz factor when seen from afar. Just watching over your shoulder, it does appear to be more for visual appeal than a functional device for the purposes I was considering, 3D modeling. I'd seen someone supposedly using it for such but their video made things look far more solid than yours seems to indicate being possible.

Hey Rico, that's really interesting. Now that we have our holograms, all we need is flying cars to really get that cyberpunk dystopia going. ;) I was wondering about a few things though: 1.) Do you know why they don't have an official app in the official stores? I don't like installing stuff on my phone that I downloaded straight from a website. :( 2.) How's the fan itself? I'm in Europe and here not everyone has an air conditioning unit and so a lot of people rely on fans to do the cooling. Does it provide a nice breeze? 3.) Lastly, it's not really a hologram, right? But given the description I was hoping they may be able to simulate perspectives by using angle-dependent LED arrays. From your video though it looks like it's "just" a rotating video screen. I mean that's a really cool idea, but I guess the perspective on the 3D objects doesn't really change as you move around the fan, right? Anyway, nice video as always and all the best. :)

Hello, is it possible to connect the hologram to the Raspberry Pi to control it in order to send the files and control it via the Raspberry with programming?

Hypervsn fans are top notch. More expensive but more colors and better pixel pitch.

Hello Rico, Thank you for sharing your experience with this product! My only concern is this flickering kind of effect it does on camera which makes it a bit hard if you want to capture a nice video especially if using it for an event and I can see sometimes it is there and sometimes not. Do you have any experience and comment with this? Would you mind sharing a purchase link? Thank you once again!

do you really think they consider what color your wall is and how high you hang it? They have no idea. Just get an extension and hid the cable in the wall if you're concerned with the visibility of the cable.

Too long. What we want to know is if its really 3D. It's not is it. Basically a scam.

I don't think that really counts as a hologram. What happens if you view it from an angle? I know that if you're completely parallel to the fan blades, you won't see anything. At best, it's a LED display that has transparency.
