I wish you sold a kit for mauser 7&8mm and 30-06. I need to get the 6 headspace gages, Go, No-Go and field, because $270.00 for one time use is kinda high. For a gunsmith, it's an investment, for most shooters, rather than spending the money, they'll use tape. I should just get one set at a time, because I won't go shoot until I get it done right. Thanks for the video

If you live in the United States, there are several companies that rent headspace gauges. 4D Reamer Rentals and Reamerrentals.com are two, just off the top of my head. Reamerrentals.com charges $7 per set. Use them and mail them back.

Been reloading since 1980. First time I saw headspace trouble was late 60s. Dan Gurney fit great in the GT40. Until he tried a lap with a helmet on. Sorry could not resist. And that's why that bump is called the Dan Gurney Bubble.

Do you have to check headspace if you change you stock handgaurd to a free floating handgaurd?

I’m new to guns, only been shooting about 2 years. I just bought a C39V2 and Bob Ski was talking about headspacing. I also have a Henry Big Boy in 357 magnum, does that also need to be checked?

New factory guns shouldn't have a problem with excessive headspace. Excessive headspace develops over time because of wear and/or damage. Normally a factory will check headspace on a new gun as part of their normal inspection (QC) process.

If you have a 5.56 NATO marked barrel get a 1.4646 Forster gauge or one from pacific tool and gauge 1.4636 is not the only go gauge for 5.56
@hairydogstail
@hairydogstail 2 года назад
Many AR barrels are marked 5.56 but are not chambered for the true 5.56 NATO chamber. You need a 1.4646 go gauge for a true 5.56 chamber. There are throat and function gauges to check the barrel's throat to verify the throat is a true 5.56 NATO throat, 223 Wylde or 223.....

My mosin bolt cycles fine when unloaded but after its been fired and there is a spent casing in the chamber it takes quite excessive force to pull thebolt back and extract the casing. Is this a head spacing issue or something else possibly?most people I let shoot it cant even pull the bolt back so they have to smack it back.

Possibly. We suggest reaching out to our Gun Tech staff at 800-741-0015 to get a definitive answer.

Likeliest explanation is too hot a load and excessive pressure.
