Technical Aspects of the SOLGW SPEC76 Lube 

How's it do as far as come time for cleaning? I just started using the stuff and noticed it practically stains everything it touches. Does it wipe off well and take some carbon and muck with it or does it need some TLC when cleaning time comes? Used it on both my LWRC & DD pretty generously but decided to hold off on my pistols.... I was worried it would be really difficult to clean off of the pistols lowers and all the tiny cracks it can get into.

Just get some frog lube, derp.

How does bearing grease mixed with oil get a zero? Isn't oil fairly decent at protecting against rust?

What drives me nuts is that practically all companies that put out any kind of lubricant make corrosion resistance the top shelf priority in the claims department. It's EXTREMELY rare for a company to actually put out a friction test and / or comparison of any kind. I totally understand why corrosion / rust protection would be on your top priority list given your environment but for the majority of us this is a complete non-issue. I want to know how well this stuff is going to protect the high wear parts of my firearms as well as see a live temperature index to see if the product can keep these high friction points cooler for longer than the competition.

All of that is more expensive and a pain to mix compared to buying the Spec 76. Spec 76 should last you that long too. I know it's difficult to pay more per ounce, but sometimes we got to look at the whole picture.

I use grease for lubrication. It stays put. Auto Zone red high temp bearing grease. One small tub will last beyond a lifetime. It’s around $10.

@@5jjt SOLGW has a past with machine gunners lube and are very close with the owner of sprinco. I have both of these lubes and they're literally indistinguishable from one another. Both have the exact same color, exact same lubricity, exact same smell that smells nothing like any other firearms lubricant I've smelled. They both act exactly the same in pistol and rifle as well. I have some more tests I'd like to do to truly compare but I personally see zero difference.

@@TerminalM193 I’m sure you’re right, everyone has to put there name on something for marketing purposes, I don’t see this being noticeably better than something like Lucas extreme, the blue stuff.

@@Joe_Friday I actually have! I have two different rifles that I run pretty hard in classes as well as when I get the opportunity to help train. My 16.1" LWRC IC DI has been lubed specifically with Spec76 while my 12.5 BCM gets the sprinco mgl. The smell between the two are very similar but DEFINITELY not identical. So far from my testing the Spec76 is showing to have better performance in all aspects. Both of the lubricants seem to be the same viscosity, "Spec76 might be a tad bit thicker". The Spec76 tends to stay right where you put it better than mgl and does a great job at taking contaminates and removing them from all the friction spots. Spec is also better when it comes to cleaning so I will literally but a very thin coat of the spec on the entire inside of the upper which makes cleaning much easier. Both are GREAT lubricants. If I didn't have the spec I would be using mgl on litteraly all my firearms before using any other firearm lubricant and trust me, I've tried them all.

@@5jjt I have personally and professionally used Mobile 1 synthetic oil and synthetic grease for decades now, and NEVER had any issues, period. I'm a huge SOTAR fan, and was pleased to find out the he (Chad) does exactly the same thing. I have nothing against Mike and SOLGW, they are in the business to MAKE MONEY, which I'm also a fan of! But your thought process is naïve. The SPEC 76 lube is $15.00 for 2 OUNCES, add in shipping and handling and you're close to about $25.00, So the break down really is about $12.50 per ounce. You can literally go to any auto parts store or even Walmart and purchase a quart of Mobile 1 synthetic oil for $13.00, and you can also get a tub of the Mobile 1 synthetic grease of $12.00. Add that up and you're $25.00 into both oil and grease. Regarding mixing the two, it's very simple. Dump the grease into a small bucket, pour half the oil into the same bucket.....and mix! (Yes, getting it into a squeeze bottle is messy! I personally use Tupperware containers and a small brush!) As you know a "quart" is 32 ounces, and a pound is 16 ounces. If you only use half of the quart of oil and mix that with the entire pound of grease, you will have ...........16 + 16 = 32 ounces of oil / grease mixture. Now, you spent $25.00 for the oil and grease, and now you have 32 ounces of the "SOTAR sauce" mixture........ Divide that $25.00 by 32 ounces and you have $0.78 cent PER ounce. Here's the "whole picture" Order on line and spend $12.50 per ounce / $25.00 for 2 ounces of SPEC 76 or Spend $25.00 for Mobile 1 synthetic oil and grease, use 10 minutes of your time to mix it. You have 32 ounces of a blended synthetic lubricant for $0.78 cent per ounce. Oh BTW, you still have 16 ounces of oil to use! I'd prefer to spend my money in other ways! Do as you will!

Then, how do you know these other brands are just as good?
