The degree of edge angle is incredible for a short turn. Must be a combination of skill and steepness of the hill.

This is like figure skating and moggles skiing, it is far from objective. But thanks anyway for bringing this to us, i have been longing for a well done slowmo analysis of the short turn (not slalom). This is very reassuring, i realize i am not too far from that (CSIA-3).

While turning to the right, one can notice a slight convergance of his skis just after the initiation phase into his turn. This may suggest that his dominant strength is in his right side, allowing for a cleaner execution when turning to the left. Just my thoughts and observation . . .

Can you make a video on femur rotation? Have you heard of "knee valgus"? To me this is a huge difference between great skiing and World Cup skiing. Even the local teenager racers far from the World Cup skiers seem to ski with no internal femur rotation but I don't seem to hear any discussion about it on RU-vid. Thanks

He's right side seems way stronger than the left. Seems like he's having the same ski divergence left/convergence right pattern on each turn.

Ciao a tutti. Un opinione....a me sembra di vedere un contrasto di direzione della gamba destra, quando Paul gira verso la sua destra. A sinistra gira meglio perché avanza quanto basta l'interno sinistro. Che ne pensate?

Hi Paul, just some questions about short radius turn. It seems like Takeda san is sort of like "kicking" the snow during the shaping of the turn. Then carve the turn. Does it mean for short radius turn, the early edging doesnt really matter as long as i can edge my ski during the shaping of the turn?

Huge amount of “skivot” - skidding + pivot - above the fall line. Looks like a GS skier on the steep in accelerated motion. Not sure what the judges are looking for, so hard to say if this is “good”.

whats a double black groomed run lol, if its groomed its hardly black

LOL “Double black groomed run” What an oxymoron. Here at Whistler we call that a blue run.
@karlo407
@karlo407 3 года назад
I think you have a point there. Looking at it on FATMAP in avalanche view, Tiger has a slope of 25-30°. @Paul Lorenz, how can that be considered double black?
@grizzkid795
@grizzkid795 3 года назад
Tiger is one of the steepest runs ever skied- 7 times steeper than Saudan's Couloir at Whistler. Many of the competitors died because they fell and slid into the base lodge. Nothing to laugh about.
@karlo407

@@grizzkid795 please compare avy maps or topo’s. Tiger looks gentle compared to Suadan Couloir. And I don’t see a lodge at the bottom of it. rusutsu.com/en/trail-map/

@@grizzkid795 I'm looking at a topo map. Maybe I have it wrong. But, nothing on West Rusutsu that I can see comes close to being "steep". But, I may be wrong. If Paul Lorenz thinks its steep, it must be steep. I just don't see it in the data. Help me out here.
@grizzkid795
@grizzkid795 3 года назад
It is more at the northwest end, and believe me, it's steeper than hell! I think anyway. Actually I've never seen it, but Paul said he would not go near that run.
