Get you a GEARWRENCH socket set. The sockets are open in the center. You can tighten the jam nut with it and put your Allen wrench in the middle to hold it. Works great.

Need to get some threw drive sockets would make a world of difference. I use my set when setting valves and injectors so when u tighten that jam nut u can keep it from moving. Idk just an idea

Creeping forward on the brake would most likely be a leaking direct clutch hydraulic circuit, if the band is adjusted too tight it will drag on the 1-2 shift.
