Here we have a video on replacing the top gimbal bearing on a Technics 1200 using the side bearings. This involves using several tools:
1. Dremel with cutter
2. Safety goggles
3. Gloves
4. Small hex screw driver bit or anything similar
5. Small hammer
6. Technics 1200 Side bearing case with good bearings
7. Technics 1200 gimbal
8. Heat gun

Nice DIY. I would make sure to clean out those bearings after being exposed to all that aluminum dust from the Dremel.

Roger that @ about 8:22 I mention cleaning it but I should have shown how I did it. I usually spray it with WD40 then alcohol. Hope this helped.

I was thinking to use those bearings from older parts, big thanks for the tips!

just a heads up, if those aftermarket bearings make the anti-skate not work after adjusting the pivot points correctly, it's too much tension. I dont even know how you would correctly adjust the pivot points with that type of bearing. Personally would not attempt to use them. The oem bearings were designed exposed for a reason, so the pivot needle basically floats in the center. that why they get destroyed so easily if over tightened. Ive been working on 1200's for 25 years. thanks for the video! glad others are able to transplant those little buggers. Its not a fun job, and parts are not getting any easier to find :P

100% agreed. The aftermarket ones should be a last case scenario understanding that anti-skate won't work like oem. They work great for DJing & scratching but for that oem performance & feel, oem bearings are key. Thank you for your comment & knowledge/experience.

could you also cut at the middle of the cylinder and try popping out? Probably smarter your way, just wanted to ask...i just bought that same part on ebay to fix mine.

Hello, I’ve never tried it that way before. I sort of just ran with this method. So far I have fixed 3 tables doing this. Sad part is that there are never enough bearings out there. Good to know you found a good set. Best of luck on the install.

Hello, do you already have another video showing the assembly?

@@Paulorp1979 sorry I do not. Wish I had the time and spare parts to make one.

If I had a donor gimbal from an extra parts 1200 could I replace just the gimbal piece for the bearing repair?

Yea, just swap out the parts and send it. Tightening the screws is the next challenge. Not too snug, just until it stops wiggling. I usually test it with anti skate.

Man just tried and couldn’t get either out. I have one more tube. If I send it to you could try to extract them? Of course if you are unable that’s okay

Were they damaged when trying to remove them? I'm on FB or Insta if you want to discuss this further. Just look up: GabrielGabestarOrtiz

what part are you extracting the bearing from?

I’m taking them from the side bearings. They are attached to an aluminum tube with bearings on each side. You get 2 for one when you use those. The side ones barely ever get worn. It’s usually the top and bottom ones. So it’s perfect.

The bearing I used in the video is oem. I don’t have those measurements. Are you referring to the aftermarket ones I showed? Those are 2x5x2.5
