I've been digging through yt looking for someone that has replaced the capacitors on their 1200. Thanks for putting this up. I just bought my third 1200, this one is an MK2, so likely pretty old. It's been repainted. The model and date of manufacture sticker has been removed so I can't nail down the age for sure. All I can go off of is the parts used. If I had to guess the age of my MK2 I'd say late 80's early 90's probably. I'm not nearly as knowledgeable about electronics or electricity as you but I can follow directions and do basic electronics repair. I have the tools and some experience. I'm just trying to figure out if I should replace my capacitors due to age. I think I need to based on age alone. Is there a way to check without removing caps so I know for sure if they're out of spec? The work you did on this looks great btw. The paint job is nice, the work is clean, the mods useful. It's just well done. 👍

most of my caps are 15-20 years old in my MK2 people are way too obsessed with cap replacements these days. If itsnt broken, dont fix it.

As someone who has owned 3 Sl1200 I have a question for you I just got my first 1200 MKII, I Noticed that on the plastic cover there is a bulge right above the triangle with the lightning bolt, is that NORMAL? I though it was warping from heat but there is a cut out underneath that lump like Technics was making space maybe for heat dissipation? I noticed the Resistors under that spot R201 and R213 get REALLY hot on mine 118F and 132F respectively do any of yours get THAT hot?

@Ocular Cavity I don't know how hot mine gets but I can check if you'd like. I don't know enough to say definitively one way or the other what this specific parts operating temperature should be. However, if my 1200 MK II is also operating at those temps odds are it is normal. Would you like to check my turntable and see? I won't be able to get to it until tomorrow but I will check it if you'd like.

@@djluminol ABSOLUTELY Thank You SOOOOOOMUCH that would be a BIG help if you could check the temps it would at least put my mind at ease

I also have a Silver SL1200 MKII the transistor you moved to the top power plate mount in Mine gets to about 100F thinking of doing some kind of heatsink mod but, I saw you put a Heatsink on the IC AN6680 chip, I noticed heat in that area of myself but in my 1200 it wasn't the IC 201 It was R201 and R213. Is it normal for the resistors right next to IC201 (AN6680) to get HOT? In My 1200 resistors R201 and R213 reach temperatures of 118F and 132F. after 10 minutes

cant say off the top of my head, but look at the schematics. Some of the resistors do get DAMN hot because IIRC some were used as voltage dividers. The larger greenish blue ones are what Im talking about (1W+ rated). BUT, if your table isnt broken DONT MESS WITH IT. "If it aint broke, dont fix it!" These tables are work horses, and I wouldn't mess with anything if all you notice is heat.

@@SegasonicfanDesigns Thanks for the advice and for replying. R201 is a blue/green color I usually don't mess with things that are working but I have wanted one of these for YEARS and I finally found one for an affordable price ($18) but if I lose one of the IC chips I won't be able to afford to fix it I will probably just go the Heatsink route to at least just to keep the An6680 cool if nothing else, and just keep an eye on the temps

@@ocularcavity8412 Yeah, the IC does get hot, but keep in mind these were tanks designed to take abuse. They became the DJ scratch table of choice because it can handle stopping the motor constantly, forcing it opposite direction, etc. If you want to add the heatsink though, I used something like this: www.ebay.com/itm/334647058273
