Mid 70's Technics SL-1600 turntable I restored with a few newer parts. Posted just to show how things should work in case anybody is curious. I've fixed numerous issues with this unit after I purchased it including hums, buzzes, improper tonearm function, and grounding/wiring issues and finally have it working to what I think is excellent condition. The unit features:
-Fully automatic tonearm
-Direct drive
-2 adjustable speeds (Neutral/33/45 RPM)
-Anti-skate control
-Counterweight adjustment
-Repeat (1x-6x, infinite)
-Aftermarket Vestax headshell and lead wires
-Aftermarket Shure M97xE cartridge/stylus
-Aftermarket gold plated RCA component audio cables

You need to replace the oil inside the tonearm base that slows the descent when cueing, because it is falling way too fast and the oil leaks out due to heat during storage or intense use. You'll need some silicone oil 30000 from Amazon.

Nice! This is the exact model I own. But I'm having problems with erratic pitch control, on both 33 and 45 speeds. I believe I need to clean the pitch control, but not sure how to get at it. Can you do a video on how to remove the tone arm, and how to get to those components? That would be incredibly helpful, thanks!

В мануале указано,как обслуживать и регулировать!а вообще хорошо сделать полную ревизию с разборкой,и заменой смазки в механике!аппараты 1976-77 годов!!!а технику надо обслуживать!старый пластик,могут быть трещинки,надо отслеживать!

Все правильно пишите, я разбирал и одна запчасть была с трещиной механизм автоматики, приклеил, всю смазку заменил

I picked this up over the weekend - the tone arm missed the record by about 1/2 inch, and upon operation of the switch goes into a cycle of start stop, if it makes it to the end of the record then it scratches the surface. Were these issues that you worked through and how did you fix thanks

This falls way too hard. Bad for records and stylus. Send it to a specialist for turntables, who will check the automatic mechanism. This is not how it should perform.

I bought mine in 1978. The tonearm is unsure where it's going. Any suggestions on overall repair?

I have a Technics 1650 which is the stacking changer version based on the 1600. IT just recently started having a problem of excessive rumbling. You can hear it rumble through the speakers when a record is playing. It's fairly audible. Any ideas what the cause might be?

I have the same turntable. Try moving the speakers away from the turntable. If that doesn't work try to isolate the turntable by putting a piece of stone tile under it or go to Walmart and buy four rubber feet that you put on your kitchen table chairs so they don't scratch your floor and put them under the turntable. If that doesn't work check your RCA cable and make sure It doesn't have any rips or tares in it. If non of that works well...... I don't know what to tell ya.
