Thanks! A buddy just handed down to me his old SL-D20 saying it's running a little slow. I know nothing so I found your video to clean things up a bit.
Thank you so much for this video. I just bought one of these at a flea market bc my better turntable quit on me. She doesn't sound as good as my old Phillips, but she's a tank! I bought an aftermarket ground cable before I saw this video. Great resource information though.
Awesome job! I have the same humming coming from my Technics SL-BD35. I have the push in ground wire but I don't know if the ground connection is broken on the cable or all the way in the chassis like yours. I'll have to make a video to test it out.
Interesting idea, hard wiring the ground, but if you did that, why not do the same for the RCAs? Also, you really need to put a strain relief, on the ground wire.
This is a very helpful video, thank you. I hard wired a ground as shown, . The hum is gone, but I still have a ton of crackle. I've ruled out the speakers, receiver, and cables as a factor, replaced the needle, but the crackle remains, and there's doesn't appear to be a way to adjust the counter weight (the arm is factory set). Any troubleshooting advice?
Crackle could be static, a bad stylus, or just plain dirty records. The arm should have three weight settings: 1.0, 1.25 and 1.5. T4P carts should be set at 1.25.
Hi Just seen your channel and I have a 1981 Technics SL-D2 turntable. My mat has hardened and warped so not useable. Also the stylus RS-120 Black in colour is gone lol. Just wondering if I can still get a mat and stylus. Looking online and i see used mats and the stylus are different from the one I have. Any thoughts, I live in Canada.
Hi! I love your videos. I have an SL-DD20 and it has a hardwired ground. It used to work fine but haven’t used it for a couple of years. I set it up as normal and now there’s buzzing. I re-stripped the end of the ground and tried grounding it to my phono preamp and the buzzing will not go away. Not sure what I’m doing wrong. Any help would be much appreciated 🙏🏼
Hi- I have one of these and I need to remove the old, gummy grease and put on some new grease. What would you recommend using? I've seen sewing machine grease or gun oil recommended, but I'm not certain.
I have this exact turntable since the 80's and it appears to be running fine even though I rarely use it anymore. But the one problem I do have is that the stop button no longer works. Before I take it apart as you demonstrated, can you give me some idea of what the problem is and what I need to fix? Thanks.
This was an amazingly done video. I have a technics sl-d30 . No connection wires and no manual. Would you be able to help me with connections or point me in the right direction?
You just need a set of standard RCA audio cables (the red & white type) to connect the table to a receiver/amp. If the ground wire is missing, you can perform as per the video and attach a permanent one.
So I have a SL-BD20D which looks super similar to yours. When I take the needle to put it on the record the table doesn't start spinning. I've checked the belt and it is in perfect shape. I'm guessing the motor is bad? Do you know what I could do to fix the player? (also worth noting if I spin the table by hand I get audio out of the speakers. so I am getting a proper signal)
@@TurntableGuy so I took the whole thing apart and then realized I had no idea what I was looking at so put it back together and now it works. Who knows lol
Isn't there a black wire coming from the tonearm that connects to the ground connector? I bought a used SL-Q300, put on a new p mount cartridge and got it working but I have humming coming from the speakers. Ground wire is attached to the turntable and to the phono preamp. The ground wire does reduce the humming but it's still there. Any suggestions?
I have this model of turntable, and it has the same ground hum. I think the cable is alright, but it isn't connected to anything. Where on a modern receiver could I send the ground cable?
It depends on what kind of cartridge is installed as to what needle it has. There should be some branding or markings on the cartridge. There are many online retailers for replacement stylii. Just google it.
Helllo I enjoyed your video I have a Technics SL D202 that is not working correctly. I have had it for over 30 years. It will play, but it sounds like it has no out put volume ( muffled ) I have to turn the receiver volume way up to here the music I checked the RCA input on receiver with CD player works fine. Any ideas ? It has not been used for a long time Thanks Paul
@@TurntableGuy Thank you; your right!! I was trying to connect it to my mini mixer amp RCA imputs Greatly appreciate the info Thanks for the video, I have a whole new appreciation for turn tables😀
