Just found this video and really appreciate it since I'm not taking lessons right now. Looking forward to working on it. Will report back in a few weeks hopefully with some improvement. P.S. You have no idea how relieved it made me feel that you chose 80 as the starting speed. Made me feel better about my current max of 108 bpm

The song in the beginning by the Italian composer is the one in which I failed my audition and why I decided to come here lol

The Lightning Cuber It’s kind of a natural thing, but some people use their abdomen, others their throat or their lips manipulating the reed, but that can often interfere with the pitch. I played flute first so my natural vibrato, I find comes from my abdomen, I’m singing it comes from my throat. I guess I found some kind of middle ground with the oboe, but it’s whatever feels natural to you. Don’t focus so much on pushing so much air that the pitch is loud and straight but relax the force of air and a natural wave should occur. You’ll find it!

But i didn't understand why you need more air for faster staccato.. More air means louder dynamic right? Of course staccato is easier in louder dynamic. But if i want faster staccato, without changing dynamic, i think you cannot use more air. And then its everything about tongue and not air. What do you think?
@OboeFiles
@OboeFiles 3 года назад
Yep it’s counter intuitive. More air flow doesn’t always mean louder, there is a lot at play like voicing and lip guidance/ pressure
@OboeFiles
@OboeFiles 3 года назад
If you would like we can set up a lesson to get your fast staccato figured out

@@OboeFiles Now it's everything more clear! I was thinking in the video you meant to use more air in terms of quantity😅 but you meant more flowness of the air. Thank you for your clarification!!

Hi this for the video. You mentioned the tongue merely interrupts the airflow on the 3rd exercise. May I know whether you mean the same in the first two exercises too? That means I don't actually touch nor stop the reed in the first two exercises but just block the air using the tongue? Thanks!
@OboeFiles
@OboeFiles 4 года назад
The tip of the tongue touches the tip of the reed which interrupts the airflow, same for all the drills. Hope that helps?
@edwardyee3603
@edwardyee3603 4 года назад
@@OboeFiles I see, still touch the reed. I thought not even touch the reed like in double-tongue.
