This is a demonstration of how to use the new M4/M16 zero target that is making its way across the Army. The video also demonstrates techniques for marking shot groups, and how to adjust based on the information you gather from the target.

This is an awesome target because a shooter can better understand a center mass hold than previous target.

The previous target is a silhouette of a human. If a troop can't determine what "center mass" is on a human (y'know, enemy combatants?), why are they even in the military?

I have some questions about this target.

do you zero the m4 with the rear sight on 300m setting? how do you do the math using the numbers at the bottom of the target. do you divide? what is the bullshit on the back about folding the paper? these questions are only pertaining to m4 iron sights. my unit dont know shit about this. maybe you could make a video explaining the process.

The MaTech BUIS is set to 300m for M4 zeroing procedures at 25m. The MaTech BUIS is set to the white line for M16 zeroing procedures at 25m. The table at the bottom of the A8 target explains how many clicks to move each type of sight one block on the target grid. Just count how many blocks away from the center of the diamond you are and multiply that number by the appropriate value given to you by the table. Just use the calculator on your phone. The back of the target is a tool for indicating what size offset between point-of-aim and point-of-impact at 25m you need for the different types of zeroes. There is the 300m zero, the 200m zero, and the 100m (tip of ACOG chevron) zero. The 300m zero is the best for iron sights, the 200m is an option for people using CCOs but the shooter needs to understand they need to aim high at 300m, and the 100m zero is only for ACOGs and is kind of a silly way to zero at 25m and I'll explain that. Use a blank target and fold it across that line on the back, now overlay it on your shot target and count how many blocks you need to move to meet your desired offset. The simplest method is to just use the 300m zero for all sights, and adjust them so that your point-of-impact is centered on the bottom block of the diamond when your point-of-aim is centered on the diamond at 25m. NOTE: With the ACOG, use the TIP of the illuminated post underneath the chevron in your reticle as your aiming point on the center of the diamond for this method. IGNORE the chevron. Then on the qual, you just need to remember that the round will be be impacting your targets 2in to 6in ABOVE your point-of-aim from 50m all the way out to 250m. So aim below center-mass (I aim literally just above the ground) on all targets except for the 300m.

The bullshit on the back is your offset distances for the CCO or ACOG for the desired zero distance: 100m 200m or 300m. The numbers at the bottom of the target are telling you how far a click on the iron sight or CCO takes you on the target.

25 meter zero will be sky high at 100-150-11”-12” high...I like Marines 36 yard zero best

It's not a true 25m zero. Proper procedure is to adjust the sights so that the point-of-impact is 1.5MOA below point-of-aim at 25m. This comes out to being about a 30m zero, where the maximum rise of the bullet will be about 6in between 100m and 200m. E-type targets are 40 inches tall. A low-center-mass hold will make easy hits from 50m all the way out to 250m, and then true-center-mass hold will be appropriate at 300m.

@@GNpatent dude with A2 sights when doing 25 meter zero you click rear sight one click forward then zero, after that you move sight back one click and it’s now low at 25. All the military zeros are lame, what a real shooter does is shoot at each distance 25/50/100/200/300/400 etc and find what works best for you and your ammo type, since I never use 55-62gr ammo I use custom zero and have data drop sheet.

@@charlieb308 The vast majority of Soldiers don't get the opportunity to shoot paper at each range interval. The zeroing procedure I described achieves hits on the most difficult target with a center-hold shooting M855A1 out of an M4, and all the shooter needs to know is to shoot at the bottom half or bottom third of each of the nearer 40" tall E-type targets. It's only about 6 inches of rise to worry about, 11-12" is exaggerating.

@@charlieb308interestingly enough on Range today to establish 100,200, 300, 500,and 600 yard no- wind zeroes from recently built match conditioned 20 inch barrel rifle shooting Mk262 I discovered 25 yard grouping on this target at 1.4 inches low produced a nice 100 yard zero. My scope’s aperture like reticle gave me ability to produce a consistent sight picture which led to an exacting understanding for zero.
