as a D2, D3 and Street stage player, i only ever knew of machine gun shifting, the understeer and wall penalty things i figured out afterwards with intuition, and i saw players online use eraser but never did know of this, this is awsome!!! Cant wait for part two, ive been dipping my toes in D5 lately and would love to know some faster techniques, Cheers!!!

Street stage seems to me the most challenging of all and partly the most fun, since by completing the game over and over again in the arcade mode the opponents get stronger, it is really fun to try to beat Bunta with any car once that one gets used to the technique and handling :) ID4 on the keyboard is really difficult and tiring, it takes a long time to upgrade a car to the maximum.

That's down shifting in arcade stage was great technique. I often does that in races when opponent having high star difficulties. And steering more easy and gain more speed in corner...

Recently I have gotten into Initial D and tried the arcade game for the first time just last weekend, I had a blast playing in store versus with a friend, but I had no idea what I was doing ;o; I hope you can continue this series!!!!

Excellent video on the old school techniques of these old school Initial D titles. I was big on all the 3 versions but mostly Arcade Stage 3. Just a small detail about the "slight steer" description you made at 5:12 - 5:13. Counter steer plays an integral role in positioning your car during the corner entry before the final full turn, some are more subtle than others and is usually very short in duration (depending on car and course). You'll notice that alot of WR videos show a little counter steer play during hard braking sections of a corner; its noticeable in the "slight steer" example you gave. Players like MSM were able to get insanely fast times without TST nor eraser by utilizing this simple idea; albeit he did use weight transferring. Without the slight counter steering input, techniques like TST wouldn't be nearly as effective.

I played a lot v3 arcade when I was younger using a cappuccino, and I never really get the eraser technique. I suck in store battle but it was always good fun seeing your opponent trying to separate the gear lever from the machine.

Today I learned that my mad driving in video games actually has names for the techniques I figured out all those years ago 😂

The penalty for hitting walls is so much. For the last stage for the psp variant. For higher star characters you have to take into consideration what speed your goin and how much u need in order to make a turn optimally. This and having a good sense of what your car is capable of. For the cars they all have different turning capabilities in which helps them to make a turn better. I say don't use the ae85 because it tends to snap from one side to the other especially on passes with lots of turns. But its a great game overall and I can help with anything if anyone needs help. And we can all help out each other. :)

I used to play these games in a ZZW30 MR-S named STOLN from GoGo205, Team Kengai and Project Nitian. Though the best I did was hitting 3rd rainbow in the US and 28 stars before I retired in v3. You missed the 5 in 4 out tech in a way. There was also the machine gun eraser tech which I developed for use in the lower performing 6 speed cars like the S15 and the Miata. Also if I remember correctly, eraser tech was downshift the upshifting back to normal not the other way around. This was to give you a slight "drift" to help turn. Also each car has an optimal shift point like the MR-S being 5.5, 5.5, 6, then 6.5

I'm playing Special Stage on PS2 and I can't beat Bunta. I'm not able to make the corners perfectly and I go straight through them, losing speed. What's the right sequence to press the buttons and do a well-done drift? I would be very grateful if someone could help me

A Japanese yt told me that technique and the vids how to do ’gear gacha’ and that TST or CKF in Japanese. Since I play in PSP, I keep using Gear Gacha or Eraser to able change direction faster.

Just wanted to point out that in arcade ver 3, Till to this day.no body could finish 5 star bunta challenge

Eraser and TST I miss them.

I have a really hard time doing TST on both Special Stage and AS3. It's so easy to break the weight transfer trying to countersteer.

I play casually on AS8 but because I started after the cards went out of production I learned to play using a non upgraded car. I'd love to see a section on one of these videos for people who can't get a card about the tips and tricks you can use to still be fast using normal cars.

this is a old vid so i dont know f this will help anyone but dont use the analog stick if using controller use the D pad you can make minor corrections in milliseconds and is infinitely more accurate than analog stick cause like you said its hard to control the weight transfer as it takes to long to make minor adjustments and the dead zone can mess with you to
