Right on! A bit of a warning... This is a much older version of Procreate. It's probably mostly fine, but some of the UI and capabilities have changed.
Hey! Awesome video, love all of your videos and your art style. I noticed you were able to pull up your canvas in inches instead of entering pixels. How did you change from pixels? I am using everything the same, but your create menu is even different. Thanks for all of your videos have been a huge inspiration and helpful!
Maybe try updating the app. Also, I just tap on one of my presets here. Tap on "New Canvas" instead and the rest should be self explanatory. Hope that helps!
I was referring to things like screen protectors. People use screen protectors to add drag to the screen so they have a little more control over the stylus.
Hi!! First of all, I watched all this technique videos and I love them! I've always had trouble with shadows on skin and I already started practicing with your advices. 😃 I noticed that you have the astropad app! I wanted to buy it but someone told me that it wasn't worth it because it doesn't work very well... what would you recommend me?? Thank you!! 😊
Thanks! Glad you like them! Astropad is definitely a harder learning curve than normal PS or normal Procreate. That said, it actually works really well. I use it directly plugged in with a lightning cable and it's awesome. Other than the usability retraining you have to do, it's pretty remarkable.
I feel a bit dumb. Even tho I ve tried to adjust as you show in the video, my pencil is still way to different from yours. I ve always thought it might be the canvas size but I ve put it 12" x 8" and still have the same problem. Every pencil is way bigger and looks different. Maybe the German version comes with a different base setting ?
That would be weird. My canvas is 12"x8" at 300 dpi with the pencil settings you saw. Don't forget where my current brush size is based on the slider on the left, too.
Amazing video, firstly watched 4, now coming from begining. As academic painter who switched to digital this videos are amazing its not about drawing, its mastering the program ^_^ ty
On the iPad Pro there is built-in palm rejection when using the Apple Pencil. If you aren't using both of those, this won't happen. If you are using both of these and palm rejection isn't working, there may be some other settings you'll have to adjust.
ok so this may be a dumb question and I may have just missed it somewhere in your videos, but how do you duplicate the one brush to make a new one using it as a base? Sorry if you've covered it and if it's super simple!
Hi Mike, I love your work. I have watched every video multiple times to see your process of colouring your drawings. I can colour relations very well, however my line art is appalling. I know you said that you are self taught, but do you have any resources or recommendations on improving my line art? Thanks again!!!
It really just comes down to goal-based practice. Figure out what it is your lineart is missing and practice goals specific to that. If you want to still get a piece out of it and not just randomly mark up a blank canvas, try to create some art that specifically features what you're trying to practice. You'll get focused practice AND something to show off.
Hey mike did you have any trouble with resolution for RU-vid videos? I'm trying to post my time lapse and it's either got 2 black borders around on each side, or the video quality or image quality is really bad. I can't find any posts or anything explaining how to get the best quality out of procreate
Here's the issue with Procreate: It uses video resolutions when capturing the recording. So if you are drawing something that is taller than it is wide, it's recording resolution will be locked at the max height of, say, 1080p. Which is only 1080 pixels tall. If you are drawing something in landscape the resolution is much better because you are maximizes your usage of the pixel ratio. Also, if you go into the setting on your iPad and go to the procreate section, you can up the resolution of the recording. That can help, too.
Did you make any other changes to your mod soft brush (in the airbrushing section) The size is max by default on my version of procreate and my mod soft brush thumbnail looks nothing like yours. I've tried to play with some of the settings but I can't get my soft brush to work and look like yours. thanks
Hey where did you get your fat pencil and phat brush? Or did you make them if so could you maybe put them up on the forums or something I would REALLY like them
Obviously I watched the video, 2 times might I add, otherwise I wouldn't have known about the brushes. I tried to duplicate the brushes my self but it's just not the same.
i have question is procreate app better or Astropad ?....... cuz i like procreate but something is telling me maybe there's other apps out there no one herd of
Astropad and Procreate are essentially unrelated in terms of features. Astropad is simply an interface for using your iPad as a tablet. You still need a Mac and an Art Application like Photoshop for Astropad to work. Procreate is a standalone Art Application.
I don't have my iPad on my right now to check, but I think you just tap the name of the brush when you are viewing its settings. I don't think it can be done with existing Procreate brushes, just new or duplicated ones.
Cool. I will have to Google how to do that, cause making a new pen off a preexisting one is not super intuitive in Procreate. (I am probably missing a super obvious button haha)
Thanks! Nope. The amount of work it would take to give you that pencil is about 1000 times more than what it would be to adjust that one slider. Give it a shot!
Actually, I'll still need it. 1) you can't see my hands, so a camera will still be beneficial and 2) I did a 90 minute drawing last night and Procreate failed to save out the live video. I hope it works out in the future, though, because it's a nice addition to the process.
Your video would be much shorter if you didn't spend over 1/3rd of it introducing it and talking about how it was hard to make it short... just get on with it!
