Uniqlo is water resistant only, not proof. And 3 layer goretex fabric kinda speaks for itself. What is there to test?

i own this jacket and have been wearing it for two years now. for normal middle european weather it's fine. i wear it usually with jeans and if it rains really heavily my trousers are soaked at some point that i don't care about a wet spot on my t shirt tbh. considering the price and the looks of the jackets (i get complemented quite often for it) it is a great product!

When you want a jacket for light rain, you buy the cheaper uniqlo one. If you want something to withstand heavier rain, then go for the more expensive one.

yeah i dont think anyone who isnt a total chump is buying it for that much but I frequently see these on grailed now for £800 - £900, sometimes more

So crazy, at that price you could basically get a mainline Acronym piece. Not sure how many they made of the ACG through, maybe there just aren't that many around

Dunno exactly what you're talking about but the uniqlo jacket has those pockets on the chest that would work very well with a plate rig.

+adam bob Should be fine for commuting I think - I've not personally noticed getting too sweaty whilst wearing it and it does list breathability as one of its characteristics inside the jacket

APEX ALERT lower water repellency generally equate to more breathability, so i’d say it might even be more breathable than the acg.

SusanIvanova2257 sorry friend nikelab acg only introduced women specific garments in the ss17 and onward to fw18 where the line met its demise. This jacket is an fw16 jacket which predates the introduction of women garment in the line. This black color-way is hard to find in any size, and if you do stumble upon it, be prepared to drop a hefty penny, cuz its highly sought after. If you really dig the look of this jacket, I highly recommend the nikelab acg ss18 deploy womens jacket. The all black colorway for the deploy jacket is exclusive to the womens collection and the jacket retains much of the details of this alpine jacket save for the extreme collar/hood. The deploy jacket is also easier to find and at a cheaper price than this all black alpine jacket too. Good luck hunting!

Have a look at Codered also - they have some vaguely similar looking things which are cheaper. I can't vouch for their quality as I don't have any of their stuff but perhaps worth a look

I imagine there are lots of good guides online for caring for Gore-Tex jackets and DWR treatment - Google is your friend on that one!

It's possible that the final Nikelab ACG collection in FW18 will have an Alpine rerelease (will likely be announced late November). If not your only options are second hand marketplaces e.g. Grailed, Nikelab ACG Facebook group etc. Fakes do exist so be wary when purchasing!

Depends on how it looks really! Ideally you also want performance fabrics used, but you'll often need to spend over $100 to get the top end stuff

well the uniqlo one is water resistant. the acg alpine's gore-tex is waterproof. which means that a certain amount of water can penetrate the uniqlo but no amount of water will get through gore-tex fabric. not saying that the price is justified, just saying that there is a clear difference in quality. the 2017 release of the alpine is not as desirable as this all black or olive green alpine, so there is a significant price drop for the 2017 version. Im getting mine for $250 which is a pretty good steal compared to the $600 retail price.

They don't have much warmth by themselves, so if you just had a t-shirt or a longsleeve underneath I don't think you'd get too warm

For 10C, completely adequate unless it is very windy

mancaerm Sadly no sling on the Uniqlo one (although you might be able to DIY one by attaching to the hook loop at the top and a toggle at the bottom). The only place I've seen cheaper jackets with slings was in Zara, saw 1 or 2 there in Jan I think

Face seems to get a bit red/dry in the winter, for some reason it looks way worse on camera than in real life. Might need to have a fiddle with some colour settings. Been meaning to see a dermatologist anyway though in case there's a way it can be made a bit less noticable True! I'm sure if tech becomes more popular it'll be taken up by more high street/mainstream brands who'll make more affordable versions. Uniqlo Blocktech is already a good start :)

Nice! Makes a great combo with the Metamorphosis. Where'd you manage to find it? Very true though, the Goretex on the ACG will definitely hold up way better against rain than the Uniqlo one. You get what you pay for for sure!

there is one on the neck, and like one pull tabs near hands (sorry for lack of english vocabulary). So Metamorphosis Actually only zips like 20 cm on the neck, and got that two loops in hands. It doesn't have like full lenght zippers near main zipper of jacket like TNF jackets for example.

But still it sits nice and tight together, if you want, I can upload it in crap quality recorded with my phone tommorow.

Techwear is definitely the right sort of clothing for graffiti work!

I went 1 size down (this is M and I normally wear L in tees and jumpers) but it fits quite similarly to many outerwear pieces. A little oversized but not huge

Well i mean one of the basics of Techwear is that the clothes are engineered and made of top notch materials hence they're obviously more expensive than your regular clothes but some of the brands just take the price to the skies (Acronym etc...) which i don't get. It's a shame Nike doesn't make these ACG jackets anymore ;/

qwerkaz Very true, Acronym definitely put a fair premium on their stuff. There will most likely be new ACG gear in AW17 so there'll be a chance to pick up something new in 6 months or so

This one's a size M and I normally wear M-L, so I'd say take your true size. They're not too slim-fit or anything so you can comfortably fit a hoodie under there with no issues

how tall are you if you dont mind me asking haha and the ACG was a medium?

I'm around 6ft1 and yes got a medium. If you're taller I think M might be a bit short on the arms, but shorter and M will probs be fine unless you're particularly skinny (I'm a pretty average build)

Places like Grailed or Facebook groups are the only places really atm, but keep an eye out as it's likely that new ACG stuff will be announced in November

It's not a very warm jacket, but neither is the ACG as they're both shells. If you've got a decent midlayer you should be OK unless it gets *really* cold

Both Acronym and ACG are designed by Errolson Hugh so I wouldn't call it a knock-off. And having so many zips is v useful for holding all my Minecraft figurines and anime DVDs

The creator of the video doesn't doesn't seem to have much to any knowledge of GORE TEX. So, the way he made it, made it seem like it's a stylistic price difference.

Craig Avery at the end of the day, that really is the main difference. There are other 3L fabric goretex garments out there for half the price or less. The pretty pennies you pay in this alpine jacket is for the style that would otherwise only be available on the 4 digit price of acronym products.
