@@lovinradios6495 No doubt! I have a Sangean 818 CS is close to the same size as this Tecsun H501. It works just fine and I find it hard to believe the Tecsun would be that much better. But it would be newer and the buyer could get a warranty.
I own the PL-330 and PL-990x and love them both. I have been tempted to also get the H-501x for fun because it is also so cool. And based on your feedback so far I am no longer tempted but convinced I want to get the H-501x. I would say that if I could only have one radio it would be the PL-990x. However if I could have only two radios it would probably be the PL-330 and H-501x combo.
I have watched some of your videos and enjoy your honest input on them as well as comparisons. I will be buying a few diffent models for different situations. Your knowledge is invaluable. 👍🤓
It seems to me that the Tecsun 501X has it's value in: 1. It's sound quality 2. The Bluetooth capabilities built into the unit. You are right, Giles, in expressing your opinion that, if you are looking (primarily) for a better "receiver", it is hard, if not impossible to recommend the 501X over the 990, the 330, the 880, etc. Everyone needs to keep in mind that (most) of the modern receivers being produced by Tecsun and others are solid "receivers". The antenna and the position of these radios in the home are KEY to getting the best signal, no matter what the radio. The added features of each radio, however, dictate the need to upgrade and the additional cost!
Very tempted Gilles, this seems like one of the top receivers you have reviewed. Love the audio quality. A feature I really enjoy in higher-end portables is IF shift, but can’t tell if it has something like this. And whether it could record over the air to the SD
It would be interesting to see how the internal ferrite performs for MW DX. I heard it was good. But is it as good as cc ep pro or cc2e or Panasonic rf2200.
Excellent question. I have the RF-2200 and if this radio 's sensitivity equals it - particularly comparable on daytime distant AM (mw) reception, I'd buy it.
