Great review you´ve made !!! Despite the odd qestions, I still think is a nice compromise for me in terms of having a radio with all of these features. Greetings from Argentina
I have the Eton Field....but the Sony ICF 2003...and ICF-38... still wins on Medium Wave....on the Eton Field lose the sound on Medium Wave on weak stations...here is a weird thing...if it put the radio on its side...some how...the DX comes in better😮
I chose this over the one from Retekess. I now use this to listen to NHK World Radio Japan's English broadcasts at 10:00pm Philippine Standard Time. Got the Sihuadon branded one, though.
Sir I have ask you in time and time before for an orientation of how to get better reception on sw tuning cause I have fallow a lot of your videos but I get nothing I even put an extended wire outside my window to better reception but I still get nothing now I live in Costa Rica and for worst on ssb total cero my radio is an xhdata d808
RDS is hit or miss in the US - mostly miss. This is because RDS must be continually maintained by station staff, and they largely don’t have time for this. Most important, don’t set your radio time to automatically update from RDS. Not all stations use this RDS feature. Some will reset to incorrect time. If you do find a station that sets radio time correctly, the radio will likely reset incorrectly when the station is changed.
I wonder why they don't make a D-808WB? Thanks for the video. Im new to these radios and trying to find my first one...I do want weather band because i live in an area that gets hurricanes. The 109WB just seemed like a good jack of all trades radio. Is there another that you can think of that might be a better choice? Thanks!
Just received my XHDATA D 219 yesterday. What a great little radio. The build is nice, the speaker is a go and the reception here in Huntington Beach Ca. is solid. Amazon as of 042924 was onder $10 delicered next day.
RDS stands for radio data service, it has additional information on the radio station and what music or song it’s playing, what type of programming, maybe even ads. A lot of radios have it now but I think they are mostly in the $100 or more (US) price range. A lot of newer car radios have it as well.
Hello my friend .yes so much of what you say is exactly what i have found on my unit.. thankyou for being honest. Your reviews are still the best. Ron z.WA3090SWL.
Just stumbling on this ...4 years after you posted it. I found it very useful. Thanks for the intro to those websites. Checking out the rest of your channel now.
Thanks for your very thorough review, over multiple videos, of this radio. One thing I may have missed - did you find out which service (or if no service how they do it themselves) Choyong uses as their internet radio aggregator?
You did clarify that, and you're right. I guess i just loved the radio and I did do research but didn't want to be let down about it's performance. I'm good with my SW radios, what would you suggest for a good internet radio?
I'm a couple of miles away from VPR, so it's a blow torch here. A friend gave me a tour thru there a few years ago. The place is a palace! It previously was a trailer. It's amazing what you can do with donations. 73 Paul AA1SU
You should educate yourself and know that Public Broadcasting gets almost nothing for taxpayers and runs on grants from companies and donations from listeners.
@@OfficialSWLchannel From the CPB site: “A Private Corporation Funded by the American People.” From Protect My Local Media site: "CPB receives federal funding from Congress and distributes the vast majority of funds to more than 1,500 locally managed public radio and television stations across the United States." Site provides a breakdown.
I do both wifi radio and shortwave utility monitoring, I want to like the concept, but I don't know , what I am looking for is a good portable to monitor hf utilities and hfgcs with a squelch so far I figure the xhdata and tecsun are best available, as far as portable wifi radio,..it's gor to be something pretty impressive to justify spending money on when a good bluetooth speaker and any phone can do the same thing
You should IMHO. it's a bit pricey either for a radio without SSB but it's by far the best performer among my collection of portable SW receivers, beating my D-808, PL-330, PL-660 most of the time on weak signals. Forking 150 euros for it was a bit painful when I ordered it but I certainly don't regret these now.
"Please, don't tell what I should do or not" you need to be humble.... your channel exist because of people who watch your videos and comment in your channel.
I enjoyed your reviews on this radio. If all of the other bands worked better, I’d consider it, but since you say that only the internet radio feature stands out, it doesn’t seem worth it. For internet radio listening I use a Grace Digital Mondo Elite, which runs portable with an optional rechargeable battery. As a stand alone Internet radio, it’s great. I can listen to and add my own Internet radio stations via their aggregator, and also various integrated paid and free music services (Amazon Music, Spotify, Pandora, Shoutcast, SiriusXM, Live365, iHeart, Calm Radio), plus it supports Chromecast, so you can stream other services like TuneIn. I previously owned a Sangean that used now defunct Reciva. I also use a Squeezebox Boom, but it has to connect to the LMS server now that Logitech shut down their mysqueezebox server. Maybe in a later version Choyong will improve.
The illuminated buttons are a great feature. The long battery life is good. The wifi is an asset, However, i do not feel the positives outweigh the negatives.
As its system is updated now and then, Choyong could add the RDS feature on FM to this LC90 in the future. Why not? I hope so, since RDS is present on most top modern radio stations. Well, I've already ordered one. Thank you for your critical reviews.
You mention the sim card, what is the TF Card ? Is it used for download the new firmware? Where do you get a tf card? I cant download 4.4 on windows 10 it says it cant.
Hi. I was surprised by the comments on your videos about this radio. Some people were very dismissive and I did feel the same way initially but it is a unique radio. I'd like one but the price is still a bit high, plus the birdies. I might well get one. The illuminated keys is a very nice touch, especially if you're often awake at night, like me. Thanks for the videos.
I like wifi radios I had a logitech and now an ocean digital , but combined with sw although a cool idea is tricky , I think I'll wait until they perfect this it could be very popular if they stay at it , my ocean digital wifi is going strong and connects quick still gets Ota updates, but for shortwave ssb I think I'll stick to my tecsun and xhdata for now , thanks for the interesting review
If it works well and they can get the price reasonable for canada it's going to be popular, I have wifi radios and shortwave with ssb , my concerns with combining them would be if shortwave performance suffers , and if the wifi radio stations list and search ui will be updated and maintained, it would be nice if airband and squelch on all bands and modes were supported for that price in canada is pretty steep
