Lawmakers are moving to strengthen their aviation reauthorization bill after Cruz and three other lawmakers were slammed for attempting to undermine President Joe Biden’s new airline regulations.
Last week, The Lever reported that Cruz, Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), Rep. Sam Graves (R-Mo.), and Rep. Rick Larsen (D-Wash.) - who have all been bankrolled by the airline industry - introduced a new Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization deal that would require customers to send a “written or electronic request” in order to receive a full refund for a canceled or significantly delayed flight."

Him bailing on his state and taking his family to Cancun was the first thing I thought of when I heard that Teddy didn't support this issue. It's good to hear that Texas is done with Cruz. I'm hoping Ohio feels the same about Gym Jordan but I'm not very confident. I live in the city so it's easy to think Gym has very little support here. Unfortunately we have a ton of people living in rural areas that are still dead set on voting against their own interests.

I purchase a service, the service was not provided, then give me my money back. Why should I have to request it in writing or electronically and have to wait 30 days. When a company tells me you need a yearly contract which will be automaticly renewed. the only thing they hear from me is CLICK.

Ted Cruz: "Most people dont want a refund, they want a new flight" WRONG! lmao! Ive worked as a customer service agent for airline companies.... The OVERWHELMING MAJORITY of clients want refunds over new flights, because they have somewhere important they have to be by a certain time, and the company usually doesnt have any other planes flying out at similar times. However, there ALMOST ALWAYS is other airlines with available flights of similar times. So customers usually prefer a refund, so that they can use the money to pay for a new flight with a different company to get where they need to be when they need to be there. Additionally, i have had MANY people tell me that they are away from home and cannot afford additional lodging until the next flight comes in, which can sometimes be DAYS away, costing that person upwards of $1000 or more just to pay for food and shelter in the city theyve become stranded in due to a cancelled flight.

Very good points. Twice I got stuck in a city where I missed the coonector flight, or the connector flight was cancelled. Both times I was provided a voucher for hotel and meals for one night, and caught a bew flight the next morning - was pretty simple, no refund necessary. But that was over 20 years ago, and these days who knows how much more difficult it is to do this.

I had a fight that was canceled. I tried to get in another flight. I had to use the same airline. They wouldn’t give me my money back at that time I was meeting friends that were already in the destination I was going I had to spend an extra $500 to go to my destination. I’m sick of them taking our money and not giving us the services. We deserve.

It's crazy to me. I used to work at a hotel and while my hotel never made a habit of overbooking like some do, there were times where the online services would oversell the hotel by accident because people just happened to book within minutes of each other before the inventory of rooms was updated. When that happened we'd always cancel their reservations completely for them and not charge them anything. Depending on the circumstances, sometimes we'd even "walk" them to another hotel, meaning we found them a local comparable room where we put them up for the night on us. There's no way we could have gotten away with, "oh well we overbooked the room and don't have one for you, but we are still keeping your money." The tough ones were when people would book through online 3rd party websites, because then they had to call and get the refund from that company and not us.

Yeah I was booked on a flight cancelled due to covid to an event that was also cancelled due to covid. American Airlines offered a voucher, valid for a month and a half as if a global pandemic was to miraculously resolve in a month and a half, as if I would suddenly, within that period of time, think of somewhere else to fly to besides the event for which I was originally booked. For whom would that have ever worked? The process was clearly designed to get the airline a few of the billions airlines made on unused vouchers. Then the American Airlines whatever they call themselves, members club, barraged me with latest VIP deals for years after. Now this cancellation was happening while their head stewardess was on TV every night begging for our tax dollars to protect labor meanwhile as they took our tax dollars they were denying refunds AND doing stock buy backs AND after taking our tax dollars they still laid off workers. I mean.....how many dips is that? Like double double double dips basically into OUR pocket books? Airlines are engaged in an unsustainable business model. They are socializing loss and privatizing profits like gangbusters - well actually like all corporations - and they are still passing on costs to customers and to add insult to injury, "for our safety" they treat passengers like a cross between cattle and terrorists. I used to love to fly. Sometimes I still have to for work. Corporations, if they had their way would make us all slaves. And the people who run corporations are so dumb they don't know where wealth even comes from. Did I mention AMERICAN AIRLINES? Say it again: American Airlines. If I can avoid flying with them I will. But this bad biz model infects the entire industry, not just, ahem AMERICAN AIRLINES which sucks. Yeah. Nobody reads this junk. That's why I vent here so I don't have to bother my family with my vitriol.

Otherwise, I d be forced to book a replacement flight at a much higher price. I need more detail. I want the option with a simplified refund request process

People should get their money back. They may NOT be a frequent flyer and a voucher is useless to them. Also, yes, people forget to ask for refunds and then usually get a bunch of runaround from the airline. I still have 117.00 with Southwest for when I cancelled a flight during the pandemic. Luckily it doesn't expire because it WAS during the pandemic.

I mostly travel through army paid for tickets, but I had one flight that if I was footing the bill for it, I'd expect more than the food vouchers I got, like a refund. Vouchers is just a "we'll give you this shiny thing to keep you from making a big deal out of our clear and shitty service. I was put on stand by for 2 different flights and after the 3rd try to get on a plane to my destination, I had to tell a gate agent that I needed to be at my destination by 9am the next day. In the amount of time it took me to get on a flight to get on my way to my destination, I would've been there and checked into my hotel. They over book, and they didn't have a clear alternative other than going on stand by for the next flights.

No, what should happen is that you should not just get a refund, you should get compensated for your troubles. Companies get to charge late fees and cancellation fees and other fees. Why do you not have fees paid to the consumer?

They abolished the Military in 1948, no wars or enemies since and the savings is used for Health Care and Education. The Poverty Rate is 0.9% and mostly Indigenous Natives living outside society

These are all common sense rules Airlines are beginning to work like health care, charge you an arm and a leg and give you horrible service, make you wait well beyond the ticket time and still make you pay full price. Any other services would give refunds when they have scheduling issues, so why not them. Love it!

There's a story from KSL News here in Utah about a woman who paid for a ticket, ended not going, the airline convinced her to get a voucher for another flight later on. Some time later she tried to use the voucher, only to find out that someone else used it. No one was allowed to use it per the air line's policy, but someone with a different name used it, and the airline basically said, tough luck with that, we're not giving you a refund or reinstating the voucher.

Josh Harley?? Wow!! Blast from The past as an election denier!! Fist bump, guy on Jan 6th?? We make an agreement with the airline .. i buy this ticket to get to some destinations. You failed to get me there at the appointed time n date! Refund me or put me up in hotel with free food (of meals I’d now have to pay for because of this delay) and put me on a new flight. If it’s a few hours (need a time stamp of certain amount of hours-- also if you have a connection flight) then it’s a little more of a refund you get or refund all the flights. The issue is if they refund you it’s like a 7day or longer wait to get your money back… which in todays tech world should be automatic! Like how i buy my flight the money is taken out of my account or credit card within secs. As fast as you taken….Give it back..(same needs to happen for our government n our taxes).

Hey Teddy - Most consumers don't take "thousands" of flights their entire lives. That flight is cancelled, so is their whole vacation when the cancelled flight makes them miss their connecting flight and the whole thing can't be changed to a different date because mom & dad had to use vacation time from work around other workers and the kids need to be off from school. And for the business traveler, the whole 300+ person conference in Dallas can't be changed when United fails a safety check in Boston and Bob's flight is cancelled.
