Ted DiBiase SHOOTS on The Ultimate Warrior

The Million Dollar Man is one of the top 5 heels in history in my opinion. Great in ring ability, absolutely amazing on the mic & that great laugh 😂

The week that Ric Flair lost in Saskatoon to Bret Hart, the WWF came to Charlottetown Prince Edward Island for a house show. (Ric of course didn't come, he had that inner ear problem at the time, not that any of us knew that.) There were 4000 people there, which was a big house for that town but was tiny by WWF standards, and for the most part, the talent was basically punching and kicking their way through the matches, not taking any risks for such a small crowd. The most impressive move of the night was Ted DiBiase giving the Ultimate Warrior a vertical suplex. Of course Ted lost the match, but I still appreciated the bit extra he did for our small crowd.

Thing about Ultimate Warrior & Hulk Hogan: they might get loads of criticism from their peers and wrestling-connoisseurs, but without them two that era would be much less memorable. Them two formed a profound bond with young fandom which then later drove the Attitude Era as they got older and wanted more. A lot of ex-pros always like to say "I didn't understand why Vince was pushing Warrior/Hogan"....and they still don't get it. But Vince got it. And so did the fans.

I really think most people nowadays don’t understand context. People aren’t disrespecting Warriors these are just true stories from people who had to work with him so if you were a Warrior fan in the 80’s just remember him as one of your favorites

Whatever negative comments people say about warrior what can't be denied is that he was perfect for the WWF cartoon era he was colourful had charisma and personality

Jeez no one like warrior. Vince knew how to capitalize on warriors hubris. Warrior knew how to pump up a crowd. Something many entertainers just don't know how to do now in all forms of entertainment.

Ted already said his piece in the Self Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior documentary. Jim was alive back then. Now that he’s gone, let the man rest in peace.

I've heard honky tonk man and had nothing but nothing but nice things to say. People hated warrior because he shot up so hight through the roof in popularity and they resented that , even though he was still working his way up.

The "didn't respect the business" Warrior envy is so tired. The key word is business. He made more money than anyone complaining about him. Period.

Ted seems to forget about the Saturday Night's Main Event (or Friday un this case) match versus DiBiase. Warrior didn't do "the same stuff". It was their best match between one another. The main problem was that he wasn't consistent as far as doing more stuff moveset-wise. Warrior did apologize to Jake later and explained what was going on back during that time. I wish he would tell us what Helwwig told him. If true, it sucks that he had to ask him if it was okay to work a program with him. That was one of the best storylines to never finish playing out.

Respect for Ted but guys who personally disliked Jim Hellwig don't see how new and exciting Warrior was to kid fans. Kids don't care that his matches were repetitive and phony. He fit Vince's brand of 80s wrestling.

Met and talked to Ted back in 2003. Real guy. Same show I seen Road Warriors, Buff, and Greg the Hammer also.

What people forget a lot of the time is the reason guys like Warrior, Hogan and Flair did similar matches over and over is because that is what people who paid for a ticket came to see. Flair and Hogan are both obviously more capable athletes than Warrior, but at their peaks, it was like paying for a ticket to Yankees game with the guarantee you’d see a Babe Ruth home run.

The main thing is selling it to the fans. In those days largely kids. This larger than life, massive built character captivated me, the same way as MDM sold being the bad guy. That's what mattered then. Both legends

Ted Dibiase was a real talent. He has rasslin royalty in his blood and old time fans will always appreciate this.

Back in the day I loved watching the warrior because of the song he ran out to and the electricity in the crowd when the fans went wild…. But hearing this interview their points are quite valid Warriors was no Bret the hitman hart or even close with technical skills….. these guys were spot on 😊

Cause you don't know the behind business decisions Vince decides on for the betterment of the company and the the fans. There's always a bigger picture than meets the eye. In general, people tend to shy away from saying bad things about the dead, whether they be true, or not. Wrestlers,- to an extent, are a closed circle. For the most part, they do NOT say bad things about other wrestlers. I would imagine alot of this comes from the knowledge that, "if I have to work with this guy down the road, I sure as hell don't want him thinking "this is the guy who bad mouthed me- I'll just lay into him in the match". Much has been said about Helwig's proffesionalism. We have seen glimpses of how other wrestlers percieved him. This is not bad mouthing a dead man, this is the truth of how he was to work with.

A long time last seen The Ultimate Warrior, before he died aged 54 years old in 2014 by heart attack.

I understand the animosity from other westlers for warrior because of how he acted but the he was an awesome character in the ring..he might not of had a bunch of mpves he did but neither does 90% of the biggest names in wrestling hogan, flair, dusty etc. If youve seen any of their matches youve seen them all. Ted has always been very jealous of Warrior because Warrior had a fraction of Ted's wrestling ability and he didn't care about the wrestling business, yet he was very successful in terms of popularity, win/loss record, and money earnings.

Growing up in the 80's as a wrestling fan was awesome. I wish just for one night the WWE could figure out how to replicate the feeling that came along with shows and star power like Hogan and Warrior. I can't really explain what it was like being an 8-12 year old Hulkamaniac between 86-90 but there was nothing more awesome than being at the Hershey Park arena or the Spectrum in Philly and hearing "Real American" start blasting through the arena. The Million Dollar Man was the absolute perfect heel back then and as fans we absolutely loved to hate him. We truly believed he was a smug, racist, sexist and bigoted rich guy who always got away with his BS. Diabase would have been an incredible heel champion for Hogan to chase and feud with in the lead ups to WrestleMania 4,5 or 6. Of course ill also never forget Virgil finally breaking free of Dibiase and hitting that smug smile of his with the million dollar belt. My lord i miss those days and that amazing wrestling

So many wrestling personalities absolutely bash The Ultimate Warrior but you know what? Ultimate was over as big as Hogan was. When ultimates crazy promos hit everybody listen. When is music hit the freaking crowd erupted like nobody's business. Ultimate did it for himself and there's not a damn thing wrong with that.

In 2010, Ted headlined the Hall of Fame class. Since Wrestlemania was in Phoenix, WWE tried really hard that year to convince Warrior to headline the class -- can you imagine if Ted would have had to take 2nd place to Warrior, a guy he genuinely didn't like? Glad Ted was the headliner! 😀

I think Ted is referring to the match in Japan, warrior cut it short. But come on Ted, you guys had a classic on SNME, and yes I’m sure that had a lot to do with you. Warrior was in several classic matches. Hogan did the same 4-5 things too. And Jake. Most guys did back then.

While Ultimate Warrior wasn't a great technical wrestler I think a lot of people judge his move-pool mostly for his early period in WWF, because he did start doing other moves too eventually, and not just clothelines and shaking the ropes. People might be surprised if you look into his later matches for WWE. Look at his matches with The Undertaker for example. Warrior was actually doing "tombstone" piledrivers on the Undertaker, and that's a pretty dangerous move if you don't know what you're doing. His match with Macho Man had some technical moves too, if I recall. Still pretty limited though, I guess. I think Warrior was arguably pushed too hard by Vince, because Vince liked the energy, intensity and look of Warrior. But Warrior had to deal with all the contempt of the others, and being a loner didn't help. He just didn't trust anyone, and got edgy and paranoid, because everyone was jealous of his push. That is my take on it. Him being on steroids and having steroid-rages at planes, resturants, fans, kids, and also not really caring about the other wrestlers too much also gave him a bad reputation.

The way Ted leaned back and put his hand to his face tells just how pissed he was at hearing the story about Jake having to ask the Warrior. Ted speaks low and doesn't emote but the little tells- tell a big feeling inside of him after hearing that

Vince told Jake to ask warrior if he will have a match with him, Vince did not say warrior wants you to ask him if you'll have a match with him, it was because Vince wanted the warrior to work with who he can work with , who he would like to work with , Jake asked Vince can I have a match with the champion so he can make money, warrior did not say no to Jake he agreed but Jake came at him with an attitude because he was told to ask him

Warrior's best match was the obvious WM6 title match against the Hulkster. He looked bloody tired half way through & could've lost the match had he not dodged the leg drop.

We know how Andre handled it! According to Bobby Heenan. When Warrior was told to do a move with more care, just be a bit slower and not like 200mph and didn't do it, Andre just let him run against his fist, and that made Warrior learn. But it'sa fact that some people don't listen to words, they need to learn it the hard way. 😁

Lol. Ted has said at least 50 times in his episodes about whether he cared about being champion or not "its always about the money for me. I wanted the paydays." Yet here he is saying he didn't respect warrior because "it was a means to an end for him. He didn't care about the business. All the boys knew the deal." This has always been about Warrior being an outsider and less skilled. Jealousy that he didn't have to pay the dues they did. He had the attitude. The character idea. The right combination of all things that put him over the top. As a kid we believed he could kick all their asses bc he looked and acted the part. He just wasn't one of the boys. Simple as that amd because he didn't cuck out for them and mark for them they shit on him behind his back. That's really how it is. And he was still...better than all of them.

See this is what irritates me, they all talk so bad about Warrior like he only cared for himself and the money. All the other wrestlers were the same. But if they all didn’t respect Warrior, they knew Warrior didn’t respect them and all the wrestlers thought he was dangerous and would hurt them, BUT….. they all still chose to go out there and work with Warrior AND put him over! So what does that say about the wrestlers griping about him? They all wanted the good payday associated with working with Warrior, rather than group together, go to Vince and say “this guy is not right for our locker room, he’s dangerous and he doesn’t respect anyone or the business, we aren’t working with him.” Vince would’ve had to do something about Warrior. I will disagree with Ted in one regard. He said Warrior's star power didn't last. His star power always lasted. If he didn't maintain that star power, he wouldn't have gotten a prime spot in WCW against Hogan(I know Hogan wanted to avenge his loss, but Warrior got them great ratings that first night) and another shot with WWE, to include squashing HHH at Wrestlemania. It was his star power that got him second and third chances despite his limited move set and bad attitude.

I have heard a lot of negative about the Ultimate Warrior. One thing is for sure, that when I and most people name there favorite wrestlers from the late 80's early 90's his name most likely will come up. If we heard all the honest stories about every wrestler who know what we would think then.

it's funny how many guys in the business say the same thing and yet the fans will constantly challenge their (effectively) expert opinion. if 99out100 say something about something they know better than you, chances are those 99 people are right. we can, as fans, be marks for his work but we also need to accept that just because someone entertained us doesn't mean they were a good guy for the business or behind the scenes

Character of a man betters in real life as opposed to WWF / WWF genre. The Warrior lived an exemplar life without criminal misconduct attached to his name unlike Ted Dibiase and family. “ALWAYS BELIEVE”.

Hulk did the same few things too, so did Flair, but they had a bit more, it’s folks like Ted, Jake,Piper and Perfect that wee the real talents in the squared circle🇬🇧👊🏼
