The last time they played Man City, it wasn't a League game. It was the semi-final for the FA Cup, which is a completely different tournament. The semi-finals and the final to the FA Cup are held at Wembley Stadium in London. So even though he had played them since, this was the first time he had played Man City at their own home stadium.
Absolutely love Jamie's performance in this episode - my personal favorite moment is that short burst of absolute clarity in the middle of breaking down - when he goes "WHAT?" when hearing people are talking about his hair.
They fuck you up, your mum and dad. They may not mean to, but they do. They fill you with the faults they had And add some extra, just for you. But they were fucked up in their turn By fools in old-style hats and coats, Who half the time were soppy-stern And half at one another’s throats. Man hands on misery to man. It deepens like a coastal shelf. Get out as early as you can, And don’t have any kids yourself.
Looked forward to this reaction because I knew you would melt into a puddle of tears at the end!😭😭 BTW - the manager of Man City who makes a cameo is real-life Man City manager Pep Guardiol. Ted and Coach Beard's 'fangirl' reaction makes sense - it would be the American college football equivalent of a guest appearance by Alabama coach Nick Saban.
I like how they humanized Rupert, not to make us like him, but to make us see why Rebecca was attracted to him originally. He used to be a decently good man who’s fallen so deep he’s unredeemable
He's hardly unredeemable. The whole point of Ted is learning to forgive and give people another chance. Who knows maybe after this chastening experience emotionally and financially approaching his twilight years even Rupert might stop living in the past and realise the error of his ways?
It showed he was once a good man but he’s got corrupted by wealthy and power. She was there because he knew she would stop Edwin without him taking responsibility. I’m so happy for Rebecca that she has made her future without Rupert. 😊
I think the whole point of it was like OP said, it humanized him. No one is only one thing. Rupert is the hero of the story in his eyes. The great thing about Ted Lasso is that no one is a 100% evil mustache twirling villain, everyone deserves a chance to grow. Look at the darts scene in season 1. Ted could've used that opportunity to show up Rupert and insult him. Instead, he uses it as a teachable moment. Be curious, not judgemental.
I think he has to lose a lot more (which it seems he's in the process of doing) before any sort of path to redemption is possible. It's very much possible, but not as long as he has power to hold over people.
@@A-small-amount-of-peasI like to think his daughter is still young enough that he can have a good relationship with her if the end of the show was a smack from reality!
When you go to London I highly recommend Richmond Park! It's beyond beautiful. Richmond green too! (Many Ted Lasso scenes are filmed there!). As someone who has grown up around Richmond upon Thames... thank you for putting your heart into this ❤
My favorite lines in this episode were Roy :- personally I’m fine with him playing injured, I did it all the time. Beard:- you can’t even walk up stairs! Liked the fact that Jamie’s dad was in rehab, my first thought was he had died. Keeley hiding behind cars while Roy just walked down the street was great. The season will start again in August so depends on when your here in London and yes it would be difficult and expensive but there could be lower division games or women’s games to see if you just want to experience the atmosphere.
"... I'll just be laying in bed and I'll just think of Isaac, Colin, Roy, and Jamie... he hits me the hardest" WHOA... Family channel! LOL I didn't want this series to end, it made me have the same sadness that I get when I rewatch Scrubs and I hit season 8. I'm certain that this show is going to join the annual rotation along with Scrubs. I look forward to your reaction to the last episode.
The Roy Kent "ffuuuuck" effect is in full swing this episode! Jamie breaking down in the boot room was probably one of the funniest things I've seen on this show. Phil Dunster must have had a lot of fun between this and Roy's Uncle day. What a pair these two are! So funny Roy kinda hitting on his mom too and his room with both Roy and Keeley posters was great. The YT version cut out the Roy and Keeley talk and your reaction, but hope you talk about it in the last episode analysis. What a great game seeing Van Damme do his thing. And his dad entering rehab. You swear to god he's a POS and then he does something like going to rehab. We don't know why but it's a good sign and it's a second chance.
So off topic, but I have noticed that I have all of the same Target tshirts you’ve been wearing! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching the series (again) through you and your point of view.
I'm constantly impressed by your analyses of the show and the characters' arcs, which then are paid off by the excellent writing! Your insight into Beard's reaction to the idea of Nate coming back was perfect, since it was answered by the end of the episode.
Jaime never played at Manchester since he left the team to do that reality show, because he went to Richmond when they were in the Championship, a league below the Premier League where City was, and when they faced each other in the FA Cup semi final in season 02, they played at Wembley, that's in London. And this season they played at Nelson Road, Richmond's home stadium, also in London. So yeah, this was the first time Jaime came back to his home town since lefting the team.
Pep Guardiola is the most influential mangers of all time the Total Football arc that started with Johan Cryuff passed to Pep Guardiola and then passed to Lionel Messi where he implemented his learnings and eventually winning the World Cup 22
So this is Jamie's return to Man city's stadium and pitch. In the Man City episode they were playing at Wembley because it was a semi-final for the FA cup. So this is his first time returning to this stadium. I believe. And also we missed their 15 game winning streak but if they're going to win one would have to assume that Zorro made a bunch of saves but of course we'd only see it when he doesn't because when he doesn't it's a point for drama. He made his international team so one would have to assume he's really good but we just haven't seen those parts but we've been told that he's great.
You might still be able to get footie tickets on your trip, depending when it is. They have pre-season friendlies for most teams. Look up ones you fancy, cos the tickets are usually cheaper as well.
Season 1 Roy: this prick needs to be taken down a few pegs! Season 3 Roy: too many pegs! too many pegs! abort! abort! Also, Roy's poster is literally surrounded by pics of half naked women (I clearly remember a naked butt), right in front of Jamie's bed... sus 😂 That boy ✨manifested✨ Roy and Keeley into his life and bedroom 😂 (iirc in Man City they played at Wembley in London, not in Manchester; Man City was a visiting team, so this was Jamie's first time playing back at home)
"It's like I'm scared sometimes to, like get close to that little boy...'Cause I know he's going to leave." There have been a lot of times during this entire series that I've gotten choked up. This was the first time that a couple of tears actually fell.
23:57 the time they played Man City in season two was at Wembley Stadium in London, officially a neutral sight, but geographically closer to Richmond. Then earlier this season Man City visited Nelson Road to play Richmond, so this game is the first time Jamie Tart is playing In Manchester since he left to go on Lust Conquers All
What's funny is that both Beard and Lasso's reactions to Pep are basically genuine. Both Jason and Brendan are big fans of the man as a manager and they were thrilled that he agreed to play himself in the series. (Brendan, as an Arsenal fan, is still a little salty because City beat them out for the Premier Championship this year) but he said that Pep was such a lovely man that he forgave him.
The woman who plays Ted’s Mother played Jim Brockmire’s sister Jean in Brockmire. It’s about a Baseball announcer, his struggle with sobriety, and his return to The Bigs after a huge meltdown. Brockmire walked so Ted Lasso could run.
Also this episode wrecked me same as you learning that info on beard changed......everything, rewatching the series knowing about beards history makes him still amazing and weird but also sad and makes you understand, hell the beardisode is completely different knowing what hes been through
…Nods and Tears… The slight nodding with tears running down her cheeks at Ted finally finishing his solemn purpose of helping his players be the best version of themselves on and off the pitch - to be great men (finishing with Jamie) - then realizing Ted's purpose spilled over with her second nod at Jamie's father in rehab - brilliant. Hence, the power and truth of.. "They fuck you up, your Mom and Dad... They may not mean to, but they do... They fill you with the faults they had... and add some extra, just for you... They were fucked up in their turn... By fools in old style hats and coats... Who at the time were soppy-stern and half at one another's throats... Man hands on misery to man... It deepens like a coastal shelf... Get out as early as you can... and don't have any kids yourself." ~ Mae Green's poignant poem - part of Philip Larkin's "This Be The Verse" Thank You funnylilgal for your nods and your tears!
"See a man about a horse" is a British English idiom that's used as an excuse to leave or be absent, while euphemistically hiding the true reason for doing so. For example, someone might say this to conceal the fact that they are going to the bathroom or to buy alcohol."
Great episode... though if I'd ever said "F. U." to my mom, I'm not sure I'd be alive today... I did like how they set it up, mirroring the talk Ted had with Jamie on the field about Jamie's dad.
Ted's mom is a microcosm of Ted. You first meet Ted and you wonder how anyone could not like him. Like, what is Michelle's problem? Why does she want a divorce? Same thing with Dotty. She seems so sweet and funny and all that stuff. What is Ted's deal? Why is he so annoyed by her? Then you figure it all out and you're like, "Oh, OK. I see now. Issues and stuff " This show is so incredibly well written with so many nuances and details...unreal. You don trust like or enjoy this show. You keep it close to your heart.
“I don't know what's going on with me, Coach. It's like I'm feeling stuck or something, you know? I-I need to do something to help me get me out of my head. Like get punched in the face or, uh, drink a couple of bottles of red wine and yell at my mom.” -Ted in Sunflowers When I rewatched that episode after finishing the show my jaw was on the floor. This show has so many callbacks it never stops surprising you
No one associated with the production of this show has ever said that this was the end. The press material that Apple put out with the final episode called it the season finale. They did say that this was the story that they set out to tell in a 3 season arc, it may well continue.
I kind of consider it a series finale because they’re not going to name the next show “Ted Lasso”, but I do hope that they continue on with the characters in some capacity
At the very least, it's the end of Ted's storyline. Jason Sudeikis seems to definitely be leaving. So whatever form the show takes from here, it's the end of an era.
Thinking back at how much things have changed for Jamie. In the pilot or second episode when Ted says how emotionally healthy Jamie is after asking him about being a panda or lion and Jamie responds with “I’m me, why would I want to be anyone else?” It’s clear that Jamie was one of the least emotionally healthy ones and it took him losing almost everything to begin to grow and truly become emotionally healthy like he is by the end of the series. Also, the fact that it’s Colin and Isaac who go to ask Nate to come back to Richmond is huge since they were his tormentors at the start of the season 1. Will being there as a sign of forgiving Nate for being overly harsh rounds it out beautifully.
Oh goodness lol. I had a literal spit take over the "flipping straights" joke. Not sure if i just had that many friends like that or what. But love this reaction
Damnit, I'm late! Got unreasonably busy yesterday but was stoked to see these already up when I got home today. 👍✌❤ 10:13 Jade is a Queen, and an integral part of Nate's redemption. 😍 12:37 The change in Ted's demeanor around his Mom is interesting, as though her cheeriness displaces his. 13:29 It's an old expression. 14:14 I want to feel bad for Jamie here, especially given his wonderful growth but 🤣🤣🤣 21:40 This is just brilliant. 23:17 The true tragedy of AFC Richmond is that this did not come to pass. This scene is a two-fer 27:32 🥲 28:02 😭 29:53 This an amazing scene on so many levels. 😱🤔😢🥰 31:42 The Real Ted Talk.
Best episode of Ted Lasso no doubt Jamie Tart becoming an absolute amazing player his entire arc coming full circle, and Ted as always best, Beard's touching story and Nate's realization everything was perfectly scripted. But most importantly as a football fan seeing Pep Guardiola shaking is hand with Ted shot me down I would never washed my hand. Pep is like the De Niro of football. I so much appreciate the cast and producers giving the due respect to Pep and Man City more than ever as Man City actually winning the whole effing thing and the Treble
A lot of healing done it’s a beautiful episode. This episode made me want kebabs as too lol Also have you picked out a which team(s) matches you’d like to watch in England one day? ⚽️
I feel like I've lost me wings Roy!! wail boo hoo. Best Jaime and Roy scene in the whole season if not the whole series. Closely followed by Roy hugging Jaime after he punched his dad. I saw Jason directing Phil over his crying scene. Magic TV moment.
Premier League teams plays each other twice in a season; once at home and once away. The first time they played each other in season 3 it was a Richmond home game and they lost. This time it's their away game in Manchester.
When Jamie came off the field, Roy hugged him and whispered something in Jamie's ear. We didn't hear what he said but in my head what he said was either: 1) "You're here. You're there. You're every fucking where Jamie Tartt. Jamie Tartt." The reason is that he saw the poster on Jamie's wall, so he knows Jamie liked him as a player. So, Jamie to hear the player he idolized growing up cheer him on in the way that Roy was cheered when he played would mean the world. Or. 2) "I'm proud of you, *son*. Because we know that fuck (Jamie's dad) wasn't going to say it, and he should."
funnylilgal will see humanity in even Darth Vader Rupert. And that's a great thing. Yeah "I need to see a man about a horse" is an old phrase for taking a piss. As the show casually lampshades, a lot of this is written by white older american cis men, so there's a lot of jokes that will be in-jokes for that crowd ("Whatchu talkin' 'bout Willis")
When I was watching this myself originally, I didn't notice how hard Roy was hitting on Jamie's mom, but here in the reaction, it's really egregious. Doing to Jamie what Jamie did to Bumbercatch.
One of my favorite episodes. My only issue would be that Man City fans definitely would NOT have cheered for Jamie in real life. English football fans are hard core! Was really cool to see Pep Guardiola in this episode.
I don't buy Keeley falling asleep during the movie. As we found out in season 2 her "kink" was seeing men feel their feelings (cry), and she feel asleep missing the opportunity to see an entire team tear up. It just a shame. 😉
Really....goddamned....-only my opinion. Please, react Monty Python....maybe you have, take care🥰 My face is like a , everything is red -too much sun! Here, in Finland its scocoching...who cares, im drunk....😋
Possibly controversial, but I disagree with Ted on You’ve Got Mail. I find Meg Ryan and Greg Kenner’s characters extremely unlikeable In Sleepless in Seattle. Tom Hanks deserves the Meg book shop owner!
@@funnylilgalreactsalso when she her response when she heard that Ted was going to therapy she said “let me guess it’s all my fault” After seeing her I couldn’t help but think “well kind of”
I can't help it, I only see Giles when Rupert is on screen, even though I think AS Head has played more Rupert characters than Giles characters. If someone likes "You've Got Mail" more than "Sleepless in Seattle", they're just wrong, lol If I had my druthers, this would end with the throuple of Roy, Keeley, and Jamie. I love Beard, he's just awesome. :) So you want to go to a pro soccer match/football/futbol game... You do know we have a pro team here in Vegas, they play at Cashman. But I'm assuming you meant you want to go see a match/game where that sport is as popular as hand-eggball is here in the states, lol. I appreciated Beard and Ted's mom singing "La Di Da Di" by Slick Rick was awesome. Esp when you know that Slick Rick was English that transplanted to the US - so opposite of Ted, lol. Telling my father to go f himself like a decade ago during a visit, was one of the most cathartic experiences ever.
