I’m a Liverpool fan and I can honestly say the song belongs in this scene. As many have pointed out the song is not Liverpool’s. It is a song about what it means to be human and how we take care of each other. In this context it is a love letter and appreciative nod to what football means to England and the world. Bravo. Lovely ending to the first season. Not enough people talk about that little scene where Ted walks past Jamie and his dad. In that little moment, both Ted and us viewers immediately feel for Jamie and understand why he’s been such a dick this past season. That look him and Ted share is so real and I love it.
When Jamie read the note, I cried so much the first time. Just the pure kindness of Ted to go out of his way and do that. Also, it was so American in his phrasing, (way to make the final pass) I feel like it was a way to establish his difference as a person to Jamie but also reinforce his wholesomeness.
Ted handled this really well. One part that doesn’t get touched on enough is that he knew to address the 2 people who were hurting the most from this, Roy and Zorro. As the goalie, Zorro must be blaming himself a lot for their loss, and Roy’s age and injury likely made this his last game. Ted knew they were hurting most and wanted them to take pride in the good they accomplished. That’s a great coach.

My (unpaid) job as a coach is to set up my players for success on the frontend. On the backend, when they’ve given everything they’ve got, it’s my job to let them know that they played their guts out. It’s leadership. I’m pleasantly surprised that a bunch of Hollywood writers understand so much about how to lead men.

its so refreshing to see such kindness, hope and the goodness in humanity in this comedy series. Its a shame how frequently mankind is portrayed as selfish & hateful in so many movies and series. Life is messy and we are all in the school of life, but kindness is a worthwhile attribute that comes naturally to us as kids and can be cultivated at any age. :0)
Not saying they’re better. But tv right now is incredible. Squid game, Ted lasso, you season 3. Big shows on ending recently: like b99 and Lucifer. Kimetsu no Yaiba s2 soon. Let’s just appreciate that TV is the one good thing in this COVID era i reckon

This ending to season 1 with a great modern rendition of the brilliant Rogers and Hammerstein original “you’ll never walk alone” stole my heart for this show. Stunning.
This scene is so touching. People definitely need to be more like goldfishes and forget about the bad times and move on. Make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Ted's whole speech is moving but what hits me extra hard is "onward, forward" Lifes path is up and down, cleared and brushed, hurtful and joyful, loving and painful... but no matter where we are in the journey... we have to move onward... forward..
I don't think I've teared up so much over a comedy in my life. So many poignant lines. The writers deserve all the accolades they receive for this show. My favorite part is still the darts match.
his dad shitted on jamie for passing the ball. while ted was proud for jamie passing the ball. i think thats when jamie realized that ted was the father figure he never had in his life, and that ted wasnt playing mind games with him, but he genuinely cared and wanted the best for jamie.
I am a Liverpool fan. The song is our anthem, but it is not exclusively our song. Plenty of teams in Europe sing it. Yes we did it first, but don’t gatekeep a fucking football song.

Ted was going to tell Jamie, that he did good. Even if his team beat Ted's. But he was proud that Jamue was a Team player, rather then a player on a team
He didn’t leave tho technically because Rebecca transferred Jamie back to man city. He was actually mending things with Ted but it was Rebecca’s fault that he left. Rewatch season 1 episode 9 it says so.

Love Ted’s speech in this scene! It hits me a little harder than I want it to because when he says there’s nothing worse than being alone and sad. That’s what I experienced during the past two years! One sided friendships, not being let known I was appreciated, developed a bad case of depression and mild IBS. When certain people don’t recognize where they’re accountable they’re not worth your time and effort anymore.
He was also elated when Sam scored the tying goal. Not sure why, but the joy and sadness shown by Rupert during the match despite everything that happened with Rebecca and Ted was one of my favorite parts of the episode. Rupert is a very flawed person, but his love for the club is pure. I think that will show even with his new acquisition.
Being alone and being sad, that's literally me in the last half a year. And I have a job that I'm starting to hate. I'm tired, it's so hard... I want to be a goldfish, but how when your life is so empty?...
If you can, try find someone else to help. At my lowest, joining a charity and doing that work once a week changed my life. Pick a cause and give it a go, Nothing will bring you together with other people like a shared cause.
This was the first time I felt bad for Jamie, and it's the first time we see that there was more from him that we thought otherwise. Also "Roy chased down his grandson" gets me every time 😂
As a Korean, nothing hurt more than watching Luis Suarez knock us out in 2010. I love United because of Park, and watching a Liverpool player like Suarez do it hurt even more. It was the first time Korea ever made it out of the group stage outside of Asia. Even though they finished the group stage a little shaky, I felt like they had it in them to make a quarterfinal run. That was probably the most damaging loss I ever felt.

This scene hits differently when you're an Aston Villa fan. The recent season we got relegated was so miserable but it makes our current fortunes in the Prem all the sweeter. This show is so good at showing how football and in a wider context sport is a perfect metaphor for life and it's ups and downs. In October I lost my mum to a very cruel and long illness, ive been in a very deep depression since, but with the support of my wonderful family and 4 or 5 incredibly kind friends I never truly walked alone. I'll never be the old me again, but I'll continue to walk through the storm and hopefully with the companions I'm so lucky to have I'll come out the other side able to help those going through similar struggles.
Many years ago, in my little Canadian town, my 10 year old son’s football team had a chance to experience coaching from a former professional footballer under a programme sponsored by Manchester United football academy…his name, if I remember correctly, was Robin Van der Laan, and as I’d lived in the UK for many years but didn’t follow football closely, except for the high-profile games, I asked him about his career during a short conversation at the end of the coaching session….he told me he scored the winning goal for one of the clubs he played for, Derby, that allowed them to be promoted to the Premiere football league….that one goal, he said, “well basically, I never paid for another round in the Derby area pubs after that…”. That illustrated to me how important football is to many people in UK…..
Nothing. Nothing hit me as hard as seeing that Jamie’s father was still furiously disappointed in him. I don’t know if there was a bigger gut punch for me in the whole show.
The only show that comes close to this is Bojack Horseman. And that show comes at it in the opposite way, with a pessimistic anti hero as the main character. You have to get through the first six episodes before it starts to turn but it's a great show.
@@ShreeNation Bojack? I honestly prefer it. It just handles more things and some of its episodes in Season 2 and 4 are like the Lasso-Rebecca confession levels of emotion throughout the episode.
I think S1 was better cause none of us had any expectations. We had no idea what the show was about to offer and it genuinely surprised eveyone (football fan or otherwise).
Watched this scene probably six times and only now noticed that Rebecca is sitting next to Sam. (Look at how she looks at him from 2:52 to 3:06.)How many little hints and Easter eggs did the writers leave us?!

So I watch this with my wife I support Norwich City.....after Norwich lost 6-0 so Richmond needed a draw and this scene happened. 'Is this show based on Norwich?'
Oh wow I thought I was the only one! When we lost, I remembered Ted's words - that there is something worse than being sad, and that's being alone and sad. And with my family around me, I was sad - but not alone.
