As a 2x Olympic Champ, 5x World Champ, and the co-founder and chairman of SHRED., Ted Ligety isn't afraid to log long days at the office. Here's a brief glimpse of Ted training while also testing new products and technology. We dare you to keep up with him . . .
Filmed at Deer Valley, this follow cam video provides a fresh perspective on how one of the greatest skiers of all time attacks the course while laying down perfect turns. And like his racing, Ted approaches SHRED. with the same commitment to passion, innovation, and thinking outside the box. After struggling to find products that truly met his needs, Ted started SHRED. in 2006. He credits the brand--which makes helmets, eyewear, and protective equipment--for furthering his success on the course and redefining what's possible on the mountain.
Welcome to SHRED. - where every detail matters. #ComeSHREDwithUs

0:10 If you want to know what he is doing to allow his skis to make these turns and what every skier needs to think about, then put the speed on .25 and read what's next. 1. He is balanced on the inside of his left foot and is allowing the skis to make this right turn. 2. At this point he is looking at the next blue gate, not the one he is skiing around. He already looked at it during his previous turn. 3. 0:11 To set up for the next turn which he has already evaluated, he stops the travel of his upper body across the slope with his skis to position it down the fall line. Notice his present leg angle. 4. 0:12 With his upper body going down the hill and his skis still crossing the slope, his leg angle changes. When his lower leg is vertical and his skis are flat on the snow, he steps from his left to his right ski. 5. With his upper body going down the hill as his skis turn, his upper body will be over the tips of his skis, so they dig in and turn. 6. He leans his upper body straight down the fall line, the leg angle begins to change, he switches his weight to the uphill ski and the skis turn. Yes, it is all that simple. The only difference between a beginning parallel skier and what you saw here is the speed and degree of leg angle. Everything that you have heard over the years is just fancy words and byproducts of what I have said. You can't learn from the byproducts or what skiing Looks and Feels like.

Anybody can have a taste of ski racing or carving by just leaning their hip into the turn as they balance on their uphill ski to start a new turn. that will change your leg angle enough to feel their ski roll over more onto the inside edge. That's all a shaped ski needs to allow it to bite into the snow.

@@JB91710well… that and the strength to lift 2-3 times your body weight on that outside leg. Ripping GS turns is extremely physically demanding.
@JB91710
@JB91710 6 месяцев назад
@@tainicon4639 Do you know the percentage of skiers that rip carved turns? About .05% Keep your eyes open the next time you go skiing. You need to get real.

@@JB91710 fair enough haha. I coach racing so I spend like 4 days a week focusing solely on teaching carved turns so I am not getting a good sub sample of the average population of skiers. Granted, lightly carved turns (with out heavy edge pressure) are extremely easy to perform and simply involve rolling the ski on edge. If you are on real racing skis the move is dramatically more physically demanding and requires a massive outside edge pressure and outside ski commitment. Though my slalom skis are plenty capable of a relaxed 25 meter radius turn with out much effort (unlike a 7-9 meter turn in a course which requires a very agile and powerful move).

At higher speeds you need widespread arms to help you with balance. During a turn the snow surface changes often, with less or more grip.
