Neither man deserved to be KOed like that, given how hard their styles always have been throughout their respective careers. Both also were among the most decent and thoughtful fighters, too. Gaethje kept saying, in prefight videos one after another ... that while he wanted to fight Max, that he never wanted to hurt Max.

This is just coming from the heart. All throughout my life when I was in school and any environment in general it was very hard to talk to other people my age especially when it came to sports. Everyone watched NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB and because I have sickle cell anemia I was in the hospital yearly & could never play sports & was never interested in watching any sports or athletes. None of them would really interest me at all. Everyone’s “favorite athlete” would either be LeBron, some NFL player etc. I discovered the world of MMA in 2020 (I knew was mma was but I never actually watched it) until I say a clip of Justin Gaethje leg kicking Eddie Alvarez over & over. In a weird way he just caught my eye and I looked him up and watched him more & more on RU-vid, mostly compilation of him leg kicking people cause I’ve just never seen anything like that. For some reason I was just drawn to him watching his interviews and seeing the person that he is & his upbringing. The more I got into MMA even after all the fighters I’ve discovered and watched their journeys for some reason they just don’t touch me like Justin Gaethje has. His journey touches me the most. The way he came into the UFC like a SHOCK OF ELECTRICITY • Like a WILD MUSTANG in the OLD WEST Even after all the fights I’ve seen so far into my “combat sports journey” his UFC DEBUT is the one that moved me the most. Literally anybody else could lose and/or get finished but it would never hurt me to the core because when it came down to it none of them really affected me to the core like he did. He is one of the very few athletes across ANY SPORT that’s ever truly touched me & that will probably never change unfortunately. I feel like such a weirdo and I probably am because- Justin Gaethje is my favorite athlete of all time and always will be. He’s the one that motivated me to fight through the pain whenever I have my pain crisis with sickle cell. Watching his fights him winning and losing and all the commentators saying that he’s not gonna make it and him surprising people over and over being the underdog that he is. I probably will never meet that man but I will be forever grateful for him. I know he’s in his mid 30s I know he’s fighting at 155 lbs • even after what happened on 4/13/24 I can’t give up on him. I hope he beats the statistics. I’m just a donk in my early 20s you don’t have to read this AT ALL but if you do I wouldn’t count Justin Gaethje out just yet. Something tells me he’s more special than everyone realizes. Have a good day.

Pretty accurate assessment of the fight. Max was more mobile and fought long. Justin was just plodding around following Max. Also, add all those body shots that slow Justin down. Jabs, right hands and spinning back kicks to the body. “Gaethje throws punches and Holloway places punches”

I think that rolling thunder that Gaethje threw out just before they went at it played a big part in the KO, doing a flip can discombobulate someone at anytime, then you add the broken nose and 50 headshots he took. Maybe I am wrong and Gaethje was going out anyways, who knows just glad it was an ok fight with an exciting finish.

Mr. Atlas, a query for you sir: Do you think the best thing the UFC can do, is maybe go across the hall to WWE and learn how to make a belt important. The belt itself; maybe as a reference the Hardcore title that began as a joke, but Mick and others gave it value by defending it as it's stated 24/7 - anyone can get it. If they made this belt, get rid of the silver 2nd trophy look, make it really special. The belt and the match for it, not the fighters themselves per se - at first, we need to get this thing WANTED by perusing championship level contenders. So, we make the Match itself a Money match (Million dollar belt...Million Dollar Match). The belt itself should signify on it with diamonds/whatever how many times it's been fought for - not about person defending it. Not yet unless you get your real damn gladiator who holds it. You , as Max states - any weight, anyone, any time. I understand the comissions/but regardless of that, if the UFC makes it their only Promotions belt that can be won at Catch Weight (if we don't want to go nuts, you make it within 2 weight classes, up/down). IF SOMEONE REFUSES THE FIGHT: which should be a public thing at a press conference: The belt is stripped on the spot, immediately, and given to the Fight between the original challenger and a new contender: The belt HAS to be important....anyway, just a small idea maybe?

Eye pokes were minor and happened 20 minutes before the KO, and Gaethje was given time to recover both times. Fight itself was amazing as a story, because Holloway is a smaller guy coming up who was expected to wither under the power of Gaethje, a devastating striker who doesn't get stopped. Max's performance was unbelievable, a masterclass ending with the most insane KO in MMA history according to millions of fans. The eye pokes had zero to do with the result, and the first round nose break was from a brilliant and extremely legal strike.

@@justintruong4710 Yeah of course Holloway was winning the fight before the left eye & the right eye poke in the 2nd round. With the exception of the final 90 seconds in the 4th round, in my opinion Holloway won every second of every round. His spinning heal kick at the end of the 1st round was absolutely devastating in the fight & clearly broke Gaethje's nose leaving him compromised. His corner most likely had some adrenaline soaked Q-Tip’s to stop that bleeding lol. Holloway totally outclassed Gaethje in every department from then-on. Handspeed, control of distance, willingness to eat up those leg kicks in order to engage and all round ring IQ were on another level to Gaethje. Calling him into the middle of the ring to swing it out and getting the KO in the last second of the 5th and final round, is probably the greatest finish I've ever seen in UFC. I was cheering so loudly for Holloway that I got complaints from my neighbours in the morning. That said, Holloway unquestionably poked him in both eyes in the 2nd round & both eye pokes will undoubtedly have had a huge impact on the fight. However, Holloway did nothing ‘illegal’ and totally dominated the fight; so, surely you must agree that he eye pokes can only have helped him get the win? Or do you think that they helped Gaethje stay in the fight for nearly the full 5 rounds?

@@mopar_keys Yeah of course Holloway was winning the fight before the left eye & the right eye poke in the 2nd round.

You need to be more subtle if you want to troll effectively. You can't just go full-throttle insanity and expect people to take obvious bait.
