This is why teddy will outlast and have a far more enriched career than most drummer from the same stable. He not a gospel chops drummer. He's something far greater. This is a drummer you can rely on to get the job done and with incredible musicianship and taste. This is the drummer to meet all situations. If you have an album to record look no further. Teddy will be getting "the call" for the rest of his working life as the approach he takes is really whats needed in the realities of making music and recording. Of all the fast crazy drummers out there teddy is the one who can teach the most important lesions. Getting the gig is what this guy is all about. Something we all should aspire to.
I could listen to him play any style and you can't say that about a lot of drummers. Gospel chops are cool for about 30 seconds but there isn't a lot of musicality to it. Teddy is a true drummers drummer.
I swear, this guy might be the best at making an entire song totally music, damn I mean during the entire song nothing he did was out of place, nothing...he also played at different volumes....absolutely made love to the kit....
Heres an example of a drummer keeping the integrity of the music while honestly expressing themselves. You truly became that song thats the type of drummer I strive to be. Blessing to you sir!
This is a total masterclass in dynamic, light and shade drumming, playing the tune, not just showing chops...unbelievable power and taste to support the soloists.
*I held my breath all **6:30** of this video. That's just how crisp the sound was* My brother is a percussionist hence why I appreciate the art of percussion instruments.
Teddy Campbell is my favorite out of all the "Super-Chop Gospel Drummers" very tasty musical sensibility. Get's his chops in delicately, never seems forced. Brilliant player, deserves all his huge success.
This is Swwwwwwwwweeeeet. I just came here after a Thomas Pridgen clip!!!! Teddy.... you got it all. The Three T's. Taste Tone Talent. Brilliant drummer.
Mr. Campbell, a great example of what a drummer ISSSSS....just a musician who has the right to be part of what its all about. really really great. a joy listen to it. @g. sheridan: i agree, no more to say :)
The fill that starts at 3:33 omg! only a drummer can fully comprehend just how amazing that feels, it's all highlighted in teddy's body language when he strikes the crash....just awesome stuff from Master Campbell as usual!
6 people asked why.........crickets in the wilderness is all they hear.....Teddy bro....you're a blessing to all of us musicians! I can only hope to share my rhythm section duties with a drummer as passionate and sensitive as you are to the music bro! God Bless you!
KsndDEF Not bragging, but Chicago has a multitude of AMAZING DRUMMERS: Calvin Rodgers, Kahari, Rexsell Hardy Jr., Josiah Maddox, Michael Witherspoon, Clemon Poindexter, Dwayne Deo Bradford, etc. We are a city full of top notch musicians on every instrument. We have really been blessed with some talented guys from all generations and genres of music.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful drumming to say the least. Im disappointed the ride cymbal was not recorded properly But thats life. Yamaha are blessed to have you play their drums. Thanks brother
A very musical drummer who has a deep understanding and mastery of the instrument and how it all 'tastefully' fits into the structure of the music he is playing.
Boss tune. Teddy knocks it out of the park. Killin' it Teddy...thats the way you play with varying dynamics, color, timbre and just a simply great ear that's technically simplistic. I gained a little inspiration back...Respect. -educapro
I've watched this so many times. The kit sounds great, the song is awesome, and Teddy is ridiculously smooth with everything he does. And I need that ride!! Lol.
