The first ever live performance of "Gravity" from I Am The Moon: III. The Fall. Performed on the same day the album was released, live at Red Rocks in Morrison, CO.
I mention Tedeschi-Trucks too but also add Marcus King. And Kenny Wayne Sheppard. And Ray Lamontagne. Jason Isbell. JJ Mofro. Zack Bryan. Blackberry Smoke. Eric Lindell. The Greyhounds. Honey Island Swamp Band. And so many others. And I’m old (61) and a musician. There’s lots of good new music out there. You just need to know where to look and want to look. The people who complain the most about “no good new music” are stuck in the past. Probably don’t even stream music. $10 a month and I have 50 million tunes on my iPhone. The idea that there’s no good music is ridiculous. And RU-vid there’s crazy good talent there too doing original stuff. It’s too bad. Their loss not ours…
Well it's because, generally, the muse is sick, to the point kids these daze prefer machined beats, super-duper sickeningly. I upthumbed your calment anyway.
May be my favorite song out of this I Am The Moon series. Gabe is a phenomenal singer! This song has a Dr. John meets Billy Joel thing that I’m crazy about.
Even Derek’s rhythm guitar playing is just so contagious and addicting to listen to. I could listen to him scratching out that chord during the verse for an eternity and never stop enjoying
Gabe has stepped into that keyboard role with class and style. Great song and I'm sure Kofi is nodding his head in approval with that sweet smile across his face. Great bust out of a cool song. What a long strange trip it has been. From 43 years ago when my cousin Debbie & her husband Chris in Florida let the family know they had a boy and named him Derek. Then he was really into Yoda (still is) and baseball (still is) and then came the guitar. Fast forward to now, and I can't be more proud of this touring juggernaut known as the TTB that he and Sue have put together. Keep it up derek & Sue, keep it up!!
Its amazing that Derek has remained so humble and kind in light of the life he's had. Seems like a genuinely good man. Susan seems just as good a person, and is likely a great Mom. This band is easily the best touring anywhere on earth.
OK I bought an SG, I bought a Coricidin bottle slide but I can’t do this yet…what gives? Seriously though, this tune is just unreal. Gabe and the whole band just crush. Derek’s very first run (6 notes) sets the tone for this song immediately, punching you right in the gut. It’s just so mean right outta the gate, unexpected after the calm descending intro. And forget about that final solo. I only recently got into Derek/TTB. Derek is the only guitarist I’ve found that makes me roll my eyes and shake my head in disbelief/amazement.
It's damn near criminal how good this band is. Derek is just on a level all his own. I'm 47, been playing guitar for 33 years and I've NEVER heard anyone make slide guitar, hell, ANY guitar sound like that. Just, incredible!!
I have yet to hear someone else alive who pulls the power and emotion out of a guitar like Derek. There a few that come close but he is the king. And with Gabe Dixon in tow now, they now have like 5 powerhouse vocalists at the helm. TTB reigns supreme! 💥💥🤘🏼🤘🏼🔥🔥
Gabe Dixon man! He is so talented……this show was my first live show ever and definitely one to remember. Thank you everyone for making the night so magical and memorable!
Whoa Lawd. Takes me away from my worries. Glad Gabe is in the fam before his career blows up. Derek is the GOAT imo. Love this band. So many notes from every direction. Eargasm. I finally broke out of they 60's & 70's cocoon.
Maybe I am more in a emotional mood this last few monthes but every Dereck solos touch me so deeply that make me have tears in my eyes. I Can,'t wait to see the TTB in Paris next november.
Bonjour. I saw them in Glasgow last night and I haven't smiled that much in years. My face still hurts. Watch Mr Trucks play a solo in front of you is an uplifting experience. 🤘🏴
I have had the pleasure and luck to watch Derek play since he was like 15 playing with the Brothers sitting in on songs to becoming the leader on guitar. Every year event until it was over. With well over 200 brothers shows under my belt with all kinds of lineups and I will have to say Derek has now got that s*** figured out. I was always a huge Warren fan, and still am. I used to argue with people that raved about Derek. I used to think his story building capability just didn't grab me or relate to me. I don't know if he changed or I changed but my God that man can put some notes together to bring out all kinds of emotions. And I don't know what kind of sounds he's got going on in this one. Those double note intro slides where the harmonics are bouncing back and forth that's crazy. Well Derek if you read this brother you have reached the Pinnacle. I've never been a big he's better or she's better because they're a lot of great players and a lot of styles that I enjoy. I sure can say thank you from the bottom of my heart for keeping the spirit of the Allman Brothers alive. It's like church to see you play. When all things in life are gloomy I throw this song on and man it changes my day. Thank you for the years of music, you have truly touched my life. I've been privileged to watch you blossom into the guitar player that you are. Your band is top-notch you're arrangements are absolutely incredible. I hope you reach everything you're looking for in your musical career because you deserve it. You've got to play with the All-Stars the brothers, Clapton, the blues Legends like BB King etc. Now it's your turn to be the legend for the next generation. Thank you for putting such a great band together and thank you for all the smiles you'll put on my face. See you soon
I was there at Red Rocks for this incredible performance. When Derek's slide reached that multi-note scream tone, it blew me back a few rows. I have heard him play many times over about 19 years and I had never experienced such a rush. Gabe adds such a funk vibe to this group along with his first class keyboards and songwriting. Chicago awaits in March -- I can't wait!
We were there that night as well. This band will raise the hair on your body they are so good. And the feeling in the music will get you on your feet. Where does the multi- note scream tone come from? I heard it that night and watched to see how it was made. It is something new he has profected. I went back to listen to older stuff, not there. Derek is the Master of Guitar.
@@davidmccoy3174 When this Gravity video was produced, Derek sent a challenge to a guitarist who teaches online (Michael Palmisano of GuitarGate) to see if he could learn the song, and this multi-note slide scream tone blew him away. He asked for slide players to chime in with comments and someone said it is created by Derek tilting the slide at an angle across several strings. The GuitarGate video is great. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jreC9mBiNfk.html&ab_channel=MichaelPalmisano
@@danleftwich5911 from the 33 row on Derek's side of the stage, I stood and went into tunnel vision just staring at this man playing. Fantastic! I have listened to this song many times. This is the best band touring now.
@@davidmccoy3174 As everyone was streaming out of Red Rocks at the end of the show, a teenager flew by with his friends and yelled "That was so sick!" That about says it all . . . . 😁
Was lucky to see them on consecutive nights last week. So phenomenally good. Gabe, Mike, and Susan are all brilliant in their own ways, and Derek is just such a genius… Whipping Post for an encore night two had me crying like a baby.
April it is Kofi's Hammond and the keyboard that's on top of it was his also. The red keyboard is Gabe's. And the Leslie speaker was Kofi's and it has a few pictures of him taped to it. And I'm pretty sure that the road case the Leslie is in still has the stencil that reads: K.Burbride S Right. Kofi would be proud of where the band is heading I believe, he and I became close when he joined up with Derek's band in '99. At the time he didn't have the B3 yet,but then Derek bought him one because the band needed that sound. I remember that conversation Kofi & I had about that. Kofii said he was always indebted to Derek for 'trusting' him with that sound. Yes,I miss my friend Kofi each and every day,but I'm as proud as can be to see the touring juggernaut that my cousin and his wonderful wife have put together. The best touring band out there night in and night out.
Different energy in Derek’s playing on this solo. Not talkin bout tone, technique, licks, or all the other things guitar players listen too an get hung up on. Can’t explain it
He's using his fingernails to get that odd tone. Derek's done it in the past with his band and the ABB at times. Not that many but I've heard him do it a few times and I asked him afterwards how was he getting that almost scratchy tone without any effects. That's when he said it was his fingernails, not the fingertips. And a little let up on the dampening hand behind the slide to let the strings bounce ever so slightly against the slide and the whole tone just changes. And some scraping of the wound strings with the fingernails. I watched the webcast and when they caught the close ups I could really see how his right hand would change to go from the cleaner sound to that scratch sound. And don't forget the amps volume setting. It's at a minimum of 8.5 and up to the full 10 doesn't hurt either. In Derek's words,"They're tube amps and those tubes need to hurt a bit to really work and get that fat sound. That's why I just crank 'em up and let it fly." He & I have logged many a hours talking gear and stuff like how our families are doing and baseball.
@@bradgurley4854 I hope to have some similar discussions with him someday. That's for the reply. I know those tubes are burning. On the record it sounds like a smaller amp that just cant take it
I don’t recall specifically ever hearing Derek play over a ragtime type feel but boy is it something special. Digging’ this guy on the keys/vocals too!
Whatever you do…make it happen! Last time they were in Australia I travelled 3000klms over 5 days to see them in different cities. It was worth every moment of effort. Words can’t do TTB justice 🎼🎸🎸❤️🎼
Love the way this was played out! Hope you get a dvd out of this WOS run at some point. Need something for the times we can’t get to shows! Derek and Gabe = en fuego
No better band has ever surfaced this planet ; best musicians around . Voices and click never been any comparison . Ever . Mr lead , his wife , untouchable rapport in music . End of ❤️
What a Killer Song! Gabe's excellent vocals, piano playing and Derek's fierce, energetic soloing made me push the repeat button several times. I also loved the brass riff towards the end. Superb music for sure!
I’ve seen them on stage and Dereck is as good on the guitar as Susan at singing. It’s phenomenal. Also the band… they know how to play together so well ! Amazing team
Delaney & Bonnie, Derek and the Dominos, Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs and Englishmen, and The Allman Brothers all combined into one amazing band. Such a sonic joy to the ears.
Was trying to figure out where i had heard that horn section lick at the end.....Maceo Parker "Life on Planet Groove" listen near the end of the tune Shake Everything You Got!! That's a killer lick!! I bought the CD because of Kenwood Dennard! Mr. Groove From Hell!!
We were there for the 7/30/21 concerts, had a chance to see the first half of the Sat. night show before a storm hailed and rained for an hour. Still a great show, we couldn’t go back for the next night.
MY O MY! I Witnessed pure harmony, July 27th in St. Louis. This couple are magical together. Best talent in every band member on that stage, that I've ever seen. I danced the entire 3 hrs.
